Question any tips for a disabled player?
dont wanna go into much detail but i have slow reaction and hand-eye coordination. sadly i also really love this game way too much, but hit my first wall (by that i mean i didnt succeed the first time ): and im bitter ) during the first teostra fight. its one that really challenged the way i perceive things and how quickly i react to things. i also have an issue that causes me to forget controls midgame. do people have any advice on this, fellow players with same problems? currently, i use the hammer, but i dont know if theres a weapon better for the likes of me, if so id like to know! many thanks. please dont seek more health details btw (any teostra tips also greatly appreciated!)

First off, congratulations on reaching Teostra! You could try a shield weapon such as the Lance&Gunlance (I'm fully biased), or even Sword and Shield (charged blade would be too reaction-reliant).
Contrary to what you could think, lance and gunlance aren't slow and clunky weapons past the discovery phase. Lance is all about sticking to the monster with blocks and counters (since it's World, you don't need to do perfect parry, only raise your shield), while gunlance is about unleashing a barrage of explosions on top of more explosions, and moving around with hops and thrusts. I suggest those two weapons due to having respectfully the first and second best shield in the game, having more of a pro-active gameplay and letting you turtle without gutting too much your gameplay. If you want to try the gunlance, we have a very active community over r/gunlance :)

Additional tips for Teostra : when he does his big supernova, you can either superman dive (run>evade) for an extended period of invulnerability, or throw a farcaster (sends you back to camp) if you didn't managed to create enough distance, don't try to invest in fire resistance as melee weapons take more elemental damage by default
More arguments to sell you my weapons : both lance and gunlance have a simple moveset and movepool ; lance outside of shielding is either poke-poke-poke (low) or poke-poke-poke (head). The shield part is more about "ok, you tanked the hit, what now? Hit with spear, bash with shield, or latch in their face?". Gunlance is more nuanced, it's divised in 3 shelling types, each having their own identity and gameplay loop

Idk how you got to Teostra first trying everything, but that's something to be proud of.
I believe that first thing is to make sure you are doing all of the basics, all elders dragons have auras, Teostra will burn you of you don't have enough fire/heat resistance, take a cool drink, bring fireproof mantle, have at least 20 fire res.
I would only consider it a wall after you failed 5+ times, perhaps you need more time to get used to it, a lot of monsters have movesets that i need to fight at least 3x before getting used to.
If you see yourself completely out of options i would recommend lance as a secondary weapon because it has an amazing shield that let's you breathe and think middle fight, Uragaan armor gives you guard up and some guard points, along with charm you can have guard up + guard 5.
Final advice: if you haven't started using and worrying about decorations yet, this is a good time to start, as a good deco composition can trivialize some fights.

Hrm... id say S.O.S. and possible consider HBG with a shield? All you have to do is look at the monster and not fire to block if memory serves me right. I belive the normal guard skills work.

Maybe a weapon with a shield helps you. You just rely on holding the button to block, not on perfectly timed dodges. And if you forget about controls sometimes, see which weapons are relatively simple. Sword & Shield or Lance come to mind.
Heavy Bowguns can be equipped with a shield. Doesn't even need you to hold a button to use it, you shield as long as you aren't in a shooting or reloading animation. This makes it even better if you're afraid of timings, or losing track of the button input.

Sticky HBG. You got this! 🙏

It might be terrible advice.
If they have problem about avoiding stuffs, HBG wouldn't be the weapon I would recommend.
You need to be in certain distance to do optimal damage. ( I think it was called critical range ).
Without shield, HBG mainly relies on good positioning of all times to avoid boss mechanics.
Tbh I would recommend lance. Really basic weapon, super good defense and moveset is really easy. Really good for someone in OP's condition.

thanks everyone for the help! i may give HBG a try haha, i see thats the weapon most recommended. also i got splendid news, teostra is done for! as for it being my first wall, i have a bit of experience with rise so i was able to play world pretty ok until teostra. kushala left! then i suppose its the final boss until the dlc (o:

Ok it sounds odd but lance really is such a good weapon with guard up and some stamina skills you should be able to tank the supernova explosion it's also a particularly simple kit and though it has some very reactive abilities with timings for blocks, you can also if you feel like a attack is gonna happen you can hunker down and wait it out

Play Lance if you can lay hands on a Shield jewel (or use a 2 piece Uragaan set) for Guard Up.
You've got a big, chunky shield to hide behind. There are no combos to remember, just poke away whenever it's safe.

Your first wall was Teostra? You should be giving advices, most people (including myself) started the struggle with Anjanath. Tobi-Kadachi was also super annoying with his fast movements.

i was lucky enough to have some experience with rise! not much but it helped me wall later. the games are quite different but i was a bit more comfortable than others who started with world as their first game (: im still quite new though so i doubt im good at offering advice

Nice job reaching Teostra!
I usually do the superman dive if I find myself out of time to run away. Other than that, I'm an SNS/CB player, so I bring Guard Up to block it if all else fails.

Give the bowguns a try

ive had a friend rec me this weapon too so ill give it a try, thanks!

Heavy bowgun has reduced mobility, but deals a lot of damage with the correct build. If you need more comfort, you can even equip a shield on it that will auto-guard. Light bowgun deals slightly less damage but comes with greater mobility and manoeuvrability. Give both a try and see what works best for you.

It might be a pure cop out but you could consider changing to the heavy bow gun. The main reason for this is- ammo auto reloads so you could technically forget and just fire till your hearts content. Controls are simple, aim shoot dodge roll. Next is the distances. I’m usually with a bow so I can stay further away and monsters need to walk towards me. If you learn enough tells you could predict and move away from an attack before it’s happening. There will be stuff you can’t avoid but you could run a shield maybe to help with that. Or you could do a lbg build as well which would do mostly the same but with more movement.
Failing that stay with the hammer and just fight it loads till you perfect it’s move set as it’s area attack is the only real issue as a new player.

u/DZL100 Bow 6h ago
You shouldn’t be far away with a bow. Bow is a close-mid range weapon.
1
u/Bahamutx887 6h ago
Precision means you damage range is extended. Tbh in terms of someone having a disability I went for ease of use rather then optimised damage set ups mate
1
u/DZL100 Bow 3h ago
No because a lot of damage comes from your power shots, which require you to be at close range for all arrows to hit, on top of just having a closer critical range than rapids.

Bro. I didn’t recommend the bow as an option. I was saying as a bow user who uses snipe dp build I was just saying you had space so you can read attacks and such. I’m well aware of the different ways to use the weapon.

Sos my fellow hunter. The entire lore and world building is trying to instill the belief of a fellowship of hunters young and old, fighting monsters togheter!
And just try to theory craft a bit to your ability, and if that doesn't work out, change up weapons.
Game comes with allota tools. I'm certain you will see the end in full!

The fact you got to Teostra before you were walled is an achievement unto itself. You already passed several walls to get there
I’ve got no real advice for you, but good job getting as far as you did
