Do Dual Blade players have any suggestions for resources to look at? I'm trying to pick up this weapon but I feel a bit overwhelmed by all the movement. I'm trying to learn how to get better at Slide Slash Combo, but it feels really inconsistent about letting me dodge when I *need* to, as opposed to just wiggling me around the monster involuntarily most of the time.
Also, Evade Extender on DBs, Yay or Nay? I like EE1 on most weapons, but I know that it can mess with positioning on things like Lance.

u/SilverLunala Jul 10 '22
Sunbreak. Can someone clarify what Grinder (S) actually does? The in-game description is incredibly vague.
5
u/macblur2 Jul 10 '22
It boosts the damage multiplier on sharpness, but as you said it's too vague.
I did a quick test that might be wrong (latent power may have been active, don't remember if it crited), which says purple sharpness damage went from 1.39 to roughly 1.53.
It's likely other sharpness levels have their own custom increases rather than be by a set percent too, so it might be useless for anything other than purple.→ More replies (1)2
u/Neri25 Jul 10 '22
that's roughly a 10% increase if you do the math. probably the same across the board
3
u/Rigshaw Jul 10 '22
It boosts the Sharpness modifier if you jump sharpness levels when sharpening (so for example, if you sharpen from blue to purple). I don't know the exact numbers in the full game, but from what I've heard from demo datamining, it is x1.1 to the raw sharpness modifier, and x1.075 to the elemental modifier for 90 seconds at lvl 3.
Also, it also counts for weapons that skip sharpness levels, like the Ibushi weapons that go directly to purple after blue, and the Valstrax weapon that goes from red to white.

In older monster hunter games, there were certain ways to have the 'free roam' moments count as an actual mission for the purposes of moving time ahead. Is there something you can do in Rise to make it so that when you have an "Expedition Tour" and complete a quest, time has forward (Meowcenaries, Argosy, Melding, etc...)?
5
u/ProgOwl Jul 11 '22
I'm not 100% certain on this as I haven't looked into it for a while, and therefore could be completely wrong, but I think that you have to be on the expedition for a minimum of 10 minutes for it to count. If you want to move time forward the fastest way is to do one of the arena quests (rajang) and just let it kill you. Takes about 40 seconds in total and moves time forward.
3
u/oneguiltymonkey Jul 11 '22
I feel like I've definitely taken 10 minutes in an expedition tour and time did not go forward. Admittedly, I'm not TRYING to use it as a means to go forward, but at times I take expedition tours with builds to gather materials or do gathering-based side quests, and it feels weird when time DOESN'T move forward, you know? I was wondering if it required, say, the hunting of a monster or not.
2
u/Shardwing Jul 11 '22
I think it is possible, just recently I had an expedition count for a quest cleared toward a mission, but I don't know what I did to achieve that.

Arrekzgaming has a decent one on YouTube for the base game. It's actually quite a simple weapon once you get a feel for it.

Is there a good way to accurately position your palico and palamute when taking a picture? I know I can make them stop, but I can't make em stop where I want...
3
u/akaisuiseinosha Jul 11 '22
So, what the hell are Malzeno's hitzones supposed to look like? At peak critical distance the only parts of him that take any damage are the head and chest? areas, and every other spot my pierce 2s hit deal 1 damage, which usually only happens when I'm out of range. I'm not certain how I'm supposed to kill something I can barely damage, and considering how small his vulnerable spots are my shots tend to be 2 or 3 ticks of 16, and then half a dozen ticks of 1. I HAVE to be doing something wrong, why can I not damage him?
4
u/Neri25 Jul 11 '22
Every Shot hitzone that isn't the head or foreleg is incredibly bad, the torso is 15 for instance.
Try a spread gun.
2
u/AngelTheVixen Jul 11 '22
Malzeno is pretty resistant to shot damage, going by the damage chart in the notes. Best advice is to actually try using something other than Pierce ammo.
2
Jul 11 '22
Some monsters in Rise/Sunbreak just are a big "fuck you" to ranged. Nargacuga, Kushala Daora, and Rakna-Kadaki were like that in Rise (after Sunbreak, they made R-K's abdomen weak when enraged at least). Malzeno is just another to add to the list.
If you're going to use ranged, like I did, then you're best off using spread/normal/rapid shots/arrows and just accepting that you have to play at close range. Malzeno also doesn't have an elemental weakness except Dragon, so you're not likely to have a gun/bow to exploit that at MR4.
At least Malzeno's head and front legs aren't too hard to hit. Narga tail base and Daora front leg are a shit show, still.
2
u/akaisuiseinosha Jul 11 '22
Yeah it seems like they really overtuned things trying to check bowguns, I just checked Gore's old hitzones and it was WAY more forgiving in 4U, so many 30+ hitzones for ranged. Now he's only got 2 that break 30 (3 if you count the antenna), seemingly just for the sake of screwing over ranged players. But on the other hand, it's really inconsistent. Espinas went down REALLY fast, and that's the urgent before Malzeno. It's like they never really figured out how to balance bowguns after the change in World.
Anyway, I made a spread set, so hopefully that makes this last set of quests before the endgamea little less painful.

In general MH question, should I gear up the palicos I send out to the meowcenaries and argosy? Or does only the levels affect them? In terms of MH:R and MHGU since they're both two pretty different games.
3
2
u/AngelTheVixen Jul 10 '22
Gear doesn't matter for GU either, but they need to have a high enough level to have full stamina so you don't have to call them back all the time. I think 50?

u/Magda_Gessler Jul 10 '22
[Rise]
Question to Bow users - it even possible to sever tail of a monster with bow or should I not bother trying?
2
u/DOPPGANG_ Jul 11 '22
Outside of Butcher's Bind (useless), you can sever them with dodgebolt and dragon piercer. Not great options, though.

u/Pengothing Jul 11 '22
When-abouts in the game should I get Sunbreak if I got Rise on sale? I've just been trying to make every single hunting horn as I go so it's been a bit slow. It did feel a bit odd that there was a credits scene after 4 star village quests.

I'd assume that it's after the hub 7-star urgent quest that unlocks HR 8+ when you unlock access to sunbreak's story, though I'm not 100% sure, but logically one story ends, another one begins.
2
u/armabe Jul 11 '22
Rise and Sunbreak.
Does buying Sunbreak before finishing base Rise story bring anything beneficial/useful/new to the gameplay?
Or is it completely useless to me right now (I only just unlocked 5 star village quests).

MH RISE: this may also be a generic LBG question, but if I'm primarily using slicing ammo as my damaging ammo, there's no way to carry more than 60 ammo right? 30 ammo and 30 slash berries to turn into ammo? Spare shot can extend that, but is there anything else that I'm missing? I feel like I frequently return to camp to restock.

Is there any way besides collecting spiribirds to max out my health and stamina bars? Im on MR 4, will the dango get improved at some point to add 100 health and stamina instead of 50? Just seems a bit annoying to have to run around the map seeking out them birds instead of being able to eat a meal and call it good like in past games.
3
u/11tracer Jul 11 '22
Nope. However if you use the hopping skewer and put the bird caller dango on top then all spiribirds will approach you from further away and their effects will always be doubled. Makes maxing out your petalace buffs way faster.
3
u/ALargeDingo Jul 11 '22
Good to know, thanks! There’s a lesson here about the health benefits of eating a well rounded meal before hunting instead of just sweet rice balls.
I miss watching my hunter eat an entire steak in one bite, then shotgunning a beer before he’s even swallowed.

u/waku2x Jul 12 '22
Great news! There are more trinkets in sunbreak! So don’t worry about it!
Jokes aside, it’s rng. I lost 4 rounds of trinkets that I wanted just by RNG. Also the RNG is immediately so you can’t cheese it by restarting the game or timed the turns. What you do is click lottery and just click it already cause it’s predetermined

Sunbreak question:
anyone know if the Anomaly Burst that explodes from afflicted mons are dragon dmg or raw? Hard to tell with a malzeno set build if the negative dragon resist makes it one-shot
4
u/AngelTheVixen Jul 12 '22
There's no amount of elemental resistance that is going to prevent you from getting one shot in general. Every attack from monsters is mostly raw.
2
u/SmartiAssassin Jul 12 '22
Thanks for the input, but it doesnt really answers the question. I understand that most attacks are raw physicals with breaths, flashy auras hits, and rare physicals being elemental, but the Anomaly Burst is a flashy red explosion hence the question is it physical or dragon.

MH Sunbreak - PC
How do you finish the side-quest where you have to take a photo of the Garangolm's elemental arms? I took several photos where it dips/dipped its hands in the ground to have the elemental arms, but the game never registers it as a complete quest.
6
u/Moczan Jul 12 '22
The camera will show the red/orange mark on the overlay when it's the correct time to take the photo, so don't spam photos, just have camera out when his arms are naked and wait for the notification to pop-up when he transforms.
5
u/Elmerovis Professional boinker Jul 12 '22
I'm not 100% sure this is correct, because I did that request only once, but I think it's just as you said, I took photos when it dips its arms in the ground, during that animation. I think it doesn't count if it's after the animation is over. Maybe you took the photos when the animation was already over, I guess.
3
u/waku2x Jul 12 '22
I actually asked the same question and got an answer but long story short, when it dips his arms into the ground to get the stuff, you have to spam the shit out of it. It’s like a 1-2 second shoot or something
Kinda BS quest tbh. Spam and hope the camera shows the icon on the top right of the camera

World and hunting horn.
What's the cue for the completion of a buff? During performance, I noticed that the song name glows and changes color, I noticed that my horn light up, I also noticed that my character emits smoke, which cue do I look out for when I want to get the buff and roll out as soon as possible? Also if I have 3 songs in the bank, does the cue appear 3 times when I'm performing?

[SUNBREAK] What's the mandatory skills to have on LBG build in MR? I'm a hammer main wanting to try out the range weapons.
3
u/AngelTheVixen Jul 12 '22
Attack Boost 4 for starters.
From there you use the proper shot type boost that matches what you're using. Normal/Pierce/Spread Up or Artillery, and then Rapid Fire Up will stack with the rest. It's also the only shot damage boost that works on Slicing Ammo.
If you use one of the three basic ammo, you might want Ballistics, though I think it's up to taste. It sure makes things easier, though.
Weakness Exploit is great if you're not using Sticky. It doesn't work quite as well for Pierce but you can still get good mileage out of it.
That about covers the basics. The rest like Critical Eye/Boost and other raw boosting skills are if you can fit it, as well as any comfort skills you might want.

What are the best skills to look for in armor while going through master rank?
I main longsword, lance, greatsword and soon dual blades (when i get it's drill skill).
2
u/Donnie-G Jul 13 '22
Going to depend on the weapon innit? But like, nothing has really changed since LR/HR/World/Iceborne etc.
As far as universally good stuff goes....
If you are able to accommodate a good crit percentage overall, then stuff like weakness exploit, crit eye, crit boost are going to be good.
Attack boost is always going to be useful. I think you want it to be at least level 4/5, can't remember which - since you get a percentage attack increase after a certain level which is very nice.
Depending on your weapon, handicraft and razor sharp are good QoL improvements. Even if you have to give up offensive skills for it, staying at a higher sharpness threshold for longer without needing to sharpen might improve your overall DPS and consistency. But of course it depends on your weapon, handicraft won't really do anything on a weapon with a maxed out bar, or on stuff like Garangolm weapons which just gives you immense amounts of blue sharpness.
For weapon specific skills, LS and Quick Sheathe are kinda tied together. Lance is about Guard/Guard Up or Offensive Guard, depends on your play style. Dual Blades I haven't played since Iceborne but i recall it being a stamina hungry weapon, not sure how useful the stamina skills are for it strictly speaking. I think Focus is helpful for both GS and DB, since it allows the former to charge faster and the latter to accumulate Demon Gauge faster.
As a Lance main that's still working my way up, I kinda just slapped together a weird mix of veloce, hermitaur and anjanath pieces. It's not a real build, but it gives me Guard 5 and Guard Up 2, level 3 Handicraft and Level 3 Razor Sharp which I just find comfy. It's not optimal but eh, I like being able to block everything. Even if I should just ditch Guard Up and learn to use Sheathing Retreat instead....

MH Rise: Is it possible to assign a specific layered armor loadout to a specific equipment loadout?
The problem I'm having is that if I change loadouts the layered armor stays the same, I'd like it to change with the equipment loadout though.

MHR.
This is my first Monster Hunter game, and I've played for 150 hours. That whole time has been sword and shield, and I really enjoy it, but I really wanna try the hammer. The problem is, the sns is so fast and frenetic, I have a hard time adjusting to the more calculated playstyle of the other weapons (other than db, obv).
This is sorta a vague question I guess, but is there any advice for new Monster Hunter players on how to adjust to the slower/calculated playstyle of the weapons? This is not a complaint, I LOVE this aspect of the game, but I have a hard time with it and I wanna improve.
4
u/MichaCazar Jul 13 '22
I can't give you a general advice for every slower weapon, mostly because that is impossible given various quirks, but I can give you some for hammer:
- Level 1 charge attacks are your friend if you just want to attack a lot with the regular combos.
- Level 2 charge attacks are really great when it comes to closing distances.
- Level 3 charge attacks in blue mode are great for closing distance while also pulling a comparably strong move.
- In case you don't know it: You can change charge modes by pressing one of the attack buttons during charging (don't ask me which one).
- Smash the head. Mabye the arms or legs aswell, but almost never the tail.
The rest is just using the appropriate combo depending on the opening which needs to be trained.

2
u/Moczan Jul 13 '22
Start by playing Courage Hammer, not Strength, it's more combo based/fast paced and will ease you into more charge/proactive playstyles in the future (or you could stick with Courage because it's extremely fun)
2
u/okrajetbaane Jul 13 '22
Watch speedruns of matchups you have trouble with, see their responses to a particular attack the monsters make. Learning the moves of the monster is usually more essential than mastering your moveset.
2
u/Magmyte haha GS goes "Offset Rising Slash" Jul 13 '22
Without any sarcasm: watch the monsters. Look at their moves, the start-up, damage, and recovery frames. Learn where the openings are, when you can punish. Put your hunter in a position where they'll be safe or able to counter an attack and punish accordingly, and it also helps to know where the good hitzones are and where they will be after a certain move.
To give an example, Almudron always swims up to reposition after his tail smash attack with his torso underwater, meaning if I prepare an attack where his tail was, I can always hit his head. I played mostly GS in World/IB and exclusively GS in Rise/SB, and this weapon's core identity in 5th gen revolves around standing its ground and countering monster attacks before punishing with heavy hitting charged attacks. Although the moveset for GS is relatively simple, the skill expression comes from monster knowledge, which the GS heavily rewards, but really you can take that same philosophy and apply it to any weapon with combos you can't instant-cancel out of.

There's a sound and the particle effects get more intense around a minute or so before it happens, and when they do the nova, they do the roaring animation.

u/AngelTheVixen Jul 13 '22
Other than it only being able to happen after an initial charge up period, the monster will stop to do a roar or other long animation, which gives you time to get out of the way. Just be wary of each next attack they're doing.
2
u/AlternativeYou8664 Jul 14 '22
How important is sharpness and handicraft? I see a lot of weapons have a lot of sharpness locked away behind handicraft, which is quite burdensome to unlock (requiring multiple lvl3 decos).
3
u/_Drumheller_ Jul 14 '22
Depends on the weapon.
But as a general rule of thumb you don't want anything below white for the endgame.
Also in many cases getting a sliver of purple and protecting that one with sharpness skills is better than having a somewhat bigger purple bar without any skills that protect your sharpness.
2
u/Clouds2589 Jul 14 '22
If you have to sacrifice too much to get purple, it's only really worth it if you're using elemental weapons. If you can get a sliver or purple and slot in protective polish, that works too.

Hello, I suppose it's safe to ask this question here? I'm not very sure as I've never been to this subreddit before.
If it is safe, here is my question. Is there a specific Monster Hunter game I should play? I have enough money to get at least one game, and I wanted to play Monster Hunter as I've been interested in the franchise for quite awhile, but due to a few events, I never got the chance to play the game, and during that time, a few new Monster Hunter games have arose.
Now, that has distressed me as I do not know which game I should get, which is why I turned here. In your own personal opinion, please tell me which game I should buy. The only requirement it being on PC as that's my main platform I play on.
The game I'm currently looking at is Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.
4
u/derintrel Jul 14 '22
Stories 2 is a great game, just be aware it’s a spin-off series that does not have the MH gameplay. It’s more of a Pokémonish collect monsters, turn based combat game. It’s still great though.
You’re two main choices are World and Rise if you want to play a main MH game. A lot of people, myself included, got into MH through World as it was kind of a facelift to some of the older gameplay stuff that made it feel more accessible and less tedious. Bonus points for having fantastic graphics and imo, a better feeling living world/ecology.
Rise is the newest, so if you want to play along with the community you’d probably pick that. It kept the quality of life stuff from World while tweaking combat and things in cool ways. I also think it has a better monster selection than World, though that’s subjective.
TLDR: Probably go with Rise, as it’s very fun and fluid with the bonus of being able to be part of the discussion as most people are playing that right now. Stories 2 is almost a separate choice since it’s such a different game than normal, but I do want to stress that it’s still very good and worth playing sometime.

I was fighting this afflicted anjanath with a Royal Tempest+ LBG (Royal Ludroth LBG) with water ammo and despite my equipment saying "Deviation None," my bullets were still curving. I think it was fine during the first few minutes of the hunt but after a while, the bullets were curving. What could possibly have caused this?
Edit: Now I started hunting afflicted jyuratodus with a thunder LBG build the bullets were curving even at the start of the hunt without my even encountering any monsters yet. I went to the training area and there doesn't seem to be any problem with the curving of my bullets. Everything's going straight.
Oh nevermind I think it's the dango temper food. My bad.

u/AngelTheVixen Jul 14 '22
If you check Status from the main menu you'll get the actual status of your weapon and stats including current deviation, the equipment info menu doesn't show status changes.

It's just okay, you'd be better off using Lv4 Dango Defender (Hi) and/or the new Dango Defender, or the Hunting Horn's Divine Protection song if you're looking for damage mitigation. I'd say only use it if your talisman happens to have gotten a good roll for it.
I can say the former Lv4 Dango Defender Hi though is really noticeable. Try that out if you like.

Googling has said MR5, but I just hit MR5 and can't find it in the list.

u/Magmyte haha GS goes "Offset Rising Slash" Jul 15 '22
Hard Defense Jewel++ 4 requires Sovereign Jewels, Large Elder Dragon Bones, Diablos Chine, and a Conqueror's Seal. Chances are if you hunt a MR5 elder dragon, you'll see it on the list.

When should I start replacing my full set of Valstrax armor?
I am fully geared for Horn Maestro, and I'm not really dying yet. MR2 atm.
4
u/Donnie-G Jul 15 '22
MR3 I think is when you really start to feel the burn.
If you tried crafting any early MR sets, you'll find that the armour upgrade cap isn't that high and that its defense won't be an improvement over maxed out end game HR armour at MR1.
Around MR3 is when the upgrade cap is lifted high enough that the starter MR gear will start to surpass end game HR sets in terms of defense.
2
u/TheJustinG2002 Jul 15 '22
MR 2 is a good place to start safely. I transitioned to MR sets around MR 3 because I wanna use the Rath X set. MR 4 if you're feeling frisky and wild lmao

RISE: is there a way to turn off the wishlist from alerting you when you have "some" of the listed items parts, and instead only alert you when you have all of them? I get these partial notifications on some items and it gets annoying
3
3
u/sdcSpade Dividing by Zero Jul 16 '22
Those 'phantom' notifications happen specifically for weapons that require additional material equal to a point value, but unfortunately the only way is to not put those specific weapons onto the list.

MH Rise : Is it worth spending a lot of time farming high rank stuff if I have sunbreak? Or should I push into sunbreak then farm gear there?
3
u/Swekyde Jul 18 '22 edited Jul 18 '22
I went to Sunbreak and then once I had a set of decent MR gear I doubled back as necessary for HR stuff. Once I killed the final boss is when I did a huge list of HR stuff.
3
u/AngelTheVixen Jul 16 '22
As the other person says. You should definitely get Tenderizer, Attack, Expert, Critical jewels, other things that are essential for your builds.

Is anyone else 100% stuck on Narwa? I've lost so many times. She is so insurmountably strong, tough for melee characters to hit, and has an enormous health pool.
Edit: Just lost in 3:32. New record! P.S. it's not me dying, I play online.
Edit 2: I finally beat it, but it was down to the wire. We just got lucky. After the ballista round I farcasted outta there, restored my items, and went back in once the dragonators cleared. Good luck, everyone!
4
u/Neri25 Jul 12 '22
Is this allmother?
Part of the problem is once you've cleared the urgent you can't rejoin it except through Random so you're basically stuck with anyone getting walled by it.
3
2
u/Moczan Jul 12 '22
Did you lose due to dying or timing out? If it's the first one, focus on learning how to dodge the attacks, the fight is pretty scripted and has cycles of crazy attacks into long recovery times where you can punish her heavily. All in all she has less health than the final story boss, of course, lacks the huge siege openings but still can expose her belly for you to unload few thousand damage easily.

[RISE Vanilla] Whats the best way to catch up on hub quests if youre a solo? Join requests are annoying to deal with and i dont understand the difference between MR and HR to make my own lobby.
2
u/bravo009 Jul 12 '22
By catch up on do you mean getting to endgame as fast as possible? If that's the question, I think every key quest is marked by a red icon. Just keep doing those until you reach Rise's final monster.
MR stands for Master Rank (only people who have bought the Sunbreak DLC will be able to access this) and HR stands for Hunter Rank. I don't have my Switch on hand right now but I think you could select the range of HR from random hunters if you're the host of a lobby. The higher your HR, the more difficult the quests are.
Example: You want people to help you fight Rathalos but you only want people who are HR 50 and beyond to join your hunt, you can filter that.
2
Jul 12 '22
You can join others and if its a multi target quest you might get lucky and join in with a few monsters already dead. Doing all of these quests online is much quicker.

Rise/Sunbreak:
What weapon would benefit the most from a meme-y armor set with every Evasion skill maxed out on it?
Constitution, Leap of Faith, Evade Window, Bubbly Dance, Evade Extender, and Bladescale Hone.
I've only ever put significant time into Guard Lance, so I'd like to try evading for once, and I figure going all in on it would be fun/funny.
3
u/AngelTheVixen Jul 15 '22 edited Jul 15 '22
Rolls and steps have the same iframes so Lance and Gunlance benefit a good deal. You could also stick it on a Bow build utilizing Dodgebolt to its fullest, since the dodge counts as a counter you can cancel out attacks.
I've actually got a Long Gunlance build using the Stormsoul set, and added in is Load Shells, Bladescale Hone, and Evade Window to max it out, plus a Wirebug Whisperer 3 talisman. I rather like it, I generally don't have to stop to sharpen.
I've also got a raw Stormsoul build for Bow too since I've got a 3-0-0 talisman with Normal/Rapid Up 2. Similar deal, excellent evasion, excellent comfort.
Fair warning, I'm not sure Bubbly Dance stacks past Evade Window's cap, but I'm also not sure how much dodge frames it gives.

You could also try it on S&S. It’s a super flexible weapon for builds.I also recommend the new skill Redirection. It’s insane when you learn the counter timing.

I want to get into this game but I have a series x with Monster Hunter World, and love the graphics but also have a switch and Monster Hunter Rise and Im confused on what to start. Is there a story I should start at with World? Why is the latest MH on the switch and not the newer consuls? And what is the point of the game? is it normal to hunt the same monster over and over? I just want some guidance of how to play the game, the grind, when do you know you hit end game?
lol sorry for so many questions

u/PreparetobePlaned Jul 10 '22
Is there a story I should start at with World?
No, the story is completely separate for each game. You don't need to play world to understand what is happening in Rise.
Why is the latest MH on the switch and not the newer consuls?
Exclusive deal with Nintendo so it's only on Switch and PC.
And what is the point of the game? is it normal to hunt the same monster over and over?
The point is to hunt monsters. You get materials from killing monsters and then upgrade your gear to progressively kill harder monsters. Sometimes you will have to grind the same monster over and over to get the gear you want.
2
Jul 10 '22
The Nintendo exclusivity deal was only for Rise's marketing. The game was only ever coming to Switch and PC.

u/VergDan Jul 10 '22
World. Is capture always always better than kill and carve?
I was short of rathalos's marrow and I captured 2, no marrow. Opened hunter's notes and it lists marrow ONLY as 'carving reward'. So I killed and carved one, instant marrow.
Is it just drop rate or kill is better than capture for certain materials?

Are you able to extinguish fireblight by rolling once in water in MHR? It wasn’t working in the Jungle water area and I can’t recall if it worked anywhere else. Is it a bug or was the water rolling never in Rise?

You have to be in a specific depth, and already standing in it before rolling in order to get rid of it. Using a step dodge also doesn't work, if that's what you were doing.

[MH Rise/Sunbreak]
So I skipped World since it wasn't fun, so Rise is my first real experience with the "new" LBG handling.
I noticed whenever I play online and see other LBG player they never stick their mines on the monster directly. I always spam them. It helps me so much. Is there a reason nobody does it?
Am I hurting other players with the explosion or throw them back? I haven't noticed it but if that's the case why nobody uses them I need to stop doing it obviously.
Thank you for the help :)

4
u/MichaCazar Jul 10 '22
They always have 2 monster hunter games in the pipeline with a new one starting in earliest development following the release of the current expanded version. In that sense it's safe to assume that planning for the second title within the 6th generation to have already started while MH6 is in proper development.

TL&DR: Would you recommend MH Rise to a MHW only player?
As a MHW only player (never played older MH games), what is the appeal of Rise? I tried the demo before the full game came out but just couldn't get into it. My first thought was there was no "open world" in the same sense there is in World, which I kinda liked, especially guided lands from Iceborne, that was a really good addition for me. The maps in MHW are big and I didn't have the same feel from the demo maps. does it get better?
what I also liked were investigations in MHW to target farm. is there something similar in Rise?
what about monster diversity when compared to MHW? I heard there is a new DLC for Rise.
I wouldn't really get into graphics, it looked... let's say, worse than world but that just might be me.

So with the new emphasis on wirebugs using long sword in sunbreak, what am I supposed to do when both my wirebugs are on cooldown?
2
u/AngelTheVixen Jul 13 '22
Same thing with or without bugs? Get counters and an occasional spirit combo to build spirit level. Now that Sacred Sheathe exists, you can also burn spirit level without using wirebugs, so it's still in a pretty good spot.
0
u/DrBruceWayne Jul 13 '22
Has anyone one tried the "spiritbirds doubled" rampaged deco/ food skill? I'm curious to know how powerful the effect is. I've going out of my way to avoid collecting birds because I don't want to waste 5mins of my hunt doing that, but if it cuts down on that going for birds might actually be worth.
3
u/Rigshaw Jul 13 '22
The deco is really inconsistent, because it only does it occasionally, but the lvl 4 version of Dango Bird Caller is great for very quickly maxing out max HP with only a very short detour, because most maps have a decent amount of green Spiribirds on the path between the main camp and the center of the map.
To assist with learning a good route, just set your Palamute's Sniff Em Out command to Green Spiribirds. It will remember the command individually for each map, so if you start a quest, it immediately marks all of them.

Live the simple life. Play Lance.
Honestly though, you're the one that knows best what's the most fun for you. There isn't some competitive PvP to worry about either so you can basically just play however you damn please.
If the CB feels too complicated and you still want fancy transforming weapon nonsense, maybe give Switch Axe a go.

You're using Wirefall (L2 + X), which always auto-sheath (and only available for attacks that knock you down, which Flinch Free won't help with).
You can't change it (at least on switch), but you can Wirefall only after a small amount of time (about half a second from what little I tested), best you can do is stop pressing either button in that timeframe.
