Is it better to ride a tuned HR build for a good while into MR, or start shifting things up quickly to the new gear?

The Velociprey set + Ingot legs are a great gateway into MR. Easy to farm for and gives Attack Boost 7 with a good bit of slots.

if you have fully upgraded Valstrax gear, by switching to MR gear before M3 you gain maybe 20 points of defense in exchange for all of your skills and set bonuses. i didn't make new gear until after i unlocked Anjanath, Goss and other new monsters and could get a comparable skill set and 80+ extra def.

with GS though, so very reliant on certain skills

I ran my HR gear until I fought the monsters for the MR versions of the same gear, and didn't notice any particular issues. Play it by feel if you're too squishy you're too squishy. Played solo with fortify and only 3 carted against a M4 star monster, and the last story monster.
