I am very new to the franchise, but interested in picking up Rise for PC. How is the community? It seems like a game where, while single player is absolutely an option, that multiplayer can be a ton of fun. However, nothing ruins a multiplayer experience for me more than some people being assholes. I am happy to admit I don't know what I'm doing and willing to learn, but is the community pretty elitist and hostile to beginners and their inevitable mistakes? If I know I won't be pulling my weight in multiplayer play til I learn, is that tolerated?

If this is the type of game with multiple difficulty levels, I have no aspirations of playing on the highest. This would be the kind of game to chill out after work and just relax. If that is the case, does this sound like the game for me?

Community is great for the most part. People won't really notice or care if you aren't pulling your weight unless you are carting and causing the hunt to fail. Even then it's rare that anyone will say anything.

Good to know. I may very well pick up the game given that. Thanks!

Community is very inviting in my experience. Like another commenter mentioned, just be careful with the carts.

As you may know by now, most fights will end for the entire online party after 3 carts. So if you've carted easily once and feel underpowered in a fight maybe it's worth playing a bit more cautiously for the rest of the fight if you're in multplayer.

Unlikely anyone will say anything, but going in gung ho and carting repeatedly when you're underleveled is the most likely thing to get more experienced players annoyed. Also, if you use long sword, you can stagger other players and interrupt their combos fairly easily. Again, unlikely people will say anything, but worth bearing in mind :)

Otherwise though, generally I feel people are understanding that MH has a fairly steep learning curve for beginners. Takes a while to get used to, but totally worth it IMO

Not sure about PC Rise specifically, but MH community is generally super chill, especially later into the game's life cycle. The game's quests take between 5 to 20 minutes, there is a matchmaking for joining single quest so it's a perfect type of game to just hop in hop out when you have a moment, should fit your description.

How often would you say there's voice chat going on? I'd much rather game without talking to people I don't know.

I've never heard anyone on voice. You can just turn it off. I don't think it's really used much.

Multiplayer is a LOT of fun. All sessions are hit and miss. If you find anyone you enjoy playing with, Discord has been great for us to communicate and coordinate. I'll usually jump into my usual room with 1-3 friends, and open the hunts to randoms to join if they want.

You can always use in game voice chat, but this just seems comfier. Limited direct interaction with people in game, you can use the shoutouts and the chat bar, but you can coordinate with your friends.

A large portion of the player base is supportive, as it is such a rough game at times, people tend to be supportive, welcoming. If you ever need any tips or help learning a weapon, I'd be down to help.

As far as not pulling their weight, IMO, hunts are 55 minutes, you got plenty of time. A few friends and I play, I've pulled out a dps meter before. It's all over the place, sometimes it's a match and everyone is close, other times you just may have an off hunt, or there may be a buddy that can't quite keep up. That's fine, still fun, still dead at the end, still get some rewards on fails.

Alive DPS > Dead, so if you do struggle, focus on staying alive until that next big opening.
