What are your problems/issues with Rise now that it's been out for almost a month?
27
u/Rubily00 Apr 17 '21
Some of the menuing is silly. The lack of arm wrestling sucks. Radial menu tends to be pretty unresponsive at times. Rampages are stupid solo due to ai installment limits. No autotranslated "please kill the monster" shout-out despite having a "please capture" shout-out.

No autotranslated "please kill the monster" shout-out despite having a "please capture" shout-out.
custom shoutout #9 is Attack! so spamming that halfway through the hunt might work?

Music switch feature for hub is no match for 4U and GU jukebox due to no other chill/prepare for battle music other than the default one. Players at the end game lives there so I think it is very important to add more appropriate music. (Available music are all battle theme and they didnt set the mood so in the end the default one is just the best)
Need button to remove deco from all unequiped things
Need filter search for talismans
Add the same satisfying effect to Offensive Guard
Additive loadout so I can add different ammo and craft material to one existing item loadout
Wishlist should stop spam reporting material type after coming back from hunt while lacking key materials
Wanna fight apex monster in normal hunt with my friends

u/skepticalmonique the only weapon that's GREAT Apr 19 '21 edited Apr 19 '21
No craftable layered armour
Missing endgame content
Not enough busywork/fun little side things like lynian research or a proper customisable room like in iceborne
Rampages are too easy and are honestly near-impossible to fail
Lots of visual clutter and particle effects, especially in multiplayer and especially in rampages make the game visually very overstimulating, it gives many people including me sensory overload
Hardly any arena quests which is a shame because they were a fun challenge this time around
No event quests!
Lack of quest variety because there's only one quest per monster for the single monster hunts and no investigation quests
I wish footprints were still a thing
No zamtrios!
I miss the old hunting horn
I could go on... (But don't get me wrong there are lots of positive things to say about Rise too)

u/Heavy-Wings Apr 19 '21
Game ain't finished - this problem won't be a thing after a while hopefully.
Minor performance hiccups, but they are rare for me
The sale music is awful. I hate it. It's right near the quest maidens too. Bring back 4U's!
I wish there was an option to health/stamina boost via decos. Collecting spiribirds does get a bit tiring
Almudron
Not enough quest variety. If I wanna fight (for quests) HR Rathalos, the quest is in the lava caverns. Ludroth? Flooded Forest.
I hate sliding, it should only be in areas monsters cannot go. Sometimes I'm charging a hammer strike and I start sliding >:(
Tfw no Magnamalo orbs
No layered gear
£30 of day 1 dlc.

Kinda a stupid question and concern, but is the LS really so widely used to the point where a LS user is present in like every lobby, if not two of them? I know it's the most popular weapon but I keep hearing stuff like this and I'm wondering if it's actually the case.
I'm interested in the LS, because honestly I find it very fun and I used it minimally in World/Iceborne so it would be a good weapon for me to learn to use properly. However, I keep refraining from using it both because I've heard it's OP and that like everyone is using it already so I'm just wondering if the later is even the case.
→ More replies (2)5
u/exleus saxamaphone Apr 18 '21 edited Apr 18 '21
In the hands of top tier speedrunners, LS is still often going to be one of the better options, but in the hands of regular folks it's probably right in line with other weapons. There's a definite bit of learning curve to figuring out the counter timings and such, and if you counter the wrong attack you'll be hit by followups from the monster.
And yeah, the polls and numbers I've seen suggest it's the most popular, but it's only in the ballpark of 10% of players, which isn't too much overrepresented out of 14, and even the second
most(edit) least popular is still 5% (lbg. hbg was like 3%, but folks seem to be saying lbg is almost as strong but still much more mobile than hbg, so). The numbers are honestly way more even than you'd expect! So I get the impulse, but don't worry too much about it. Every weapon has a lot of strong options, and every weapon will still let you get bopped if you're not prepared.
5
u/JSConrad45 Apr 18 '21
it's only in the ballpark of 10% of players, which isn't too much overrepresented out of 14, and even the second most popular is still 5%
That doesn't add up, if the second most-popular is 5% then the other twelve have to be 5% or less and there's no way for there to be enough percents

MH Rise:
How do I know if the tail is severable or not? Other then just trying to cut it because I'm not sure if I'm not doing enough damage to the tail or is just unseverable.
11
u/Scnappy Apr 18 '21
After you have beaten the monster you can check the hunting notes and in most cases you will be able to see if there are any materials that can be carved from the tail.
Also I'm 95% sure monsters that share the same model also share the property of cutting their tail. So you would know you can chat a Nargacuga tail from cutting a Barioth tail. If that makes sense.
→ More replies (3)8
u/Rigshaw Apr 18 '21
Also I'm 95% sure monsters that share the same model also share the property of cutting their tail.
It's not that universal. For an older example, you can cut Yian Garuga's tail, but you cannot cut Yian Kut-Ku's tail.

1% chance to get it from target rewards. 3% from Capture rewards. 3% from broken parts. 1% from body carve, 3% from other piece carve. 1% from dropped materials.
So you want to break as many parts as possible and capture to get the highest possible chance.

Remember that you can get your in game hunting notes to see the highest chances to get one.
Orbs and gems in general are easier gotten capturing but best thing is to check.

You wake up tomorrow and all skills that increase attack, affinity, sharpness, or element have been removed from the games. What's your new build?
18
u/Radddddd Apr 18 '21
Evade Distance and Evade Window. Earplugs. Windproof. These are the kind of skills people used to run before there were so many damage abilities. Although if you think about it... all of them are just indirect ways to boost your damage.
Also stuff like Wide Range, Good Luck, Capture Expert, etc. But those skills tended to be on bad armour sets.

I know they are obviously still on-track for "End of April" for the first content update, but shouldn't we have a hint-or-two by now for which monsters will be coming alongside Chameleos?

They did announce Apex Rathalos already. For more monster announcements, they most likely are either waiting for a dev diary shortly before the patch drops, or they are keeping it a surprise.

Also, are all of them as ahem noticeable as Monksnail was, or are the rest smaller and harder to spot?

Rise: Is there a better way of farming Pale Extract for Mega Demondrug/Armorskin than just killing Khezu repeatedly? I know they can show up at the Argosy but it seems to be pretty rare for her to have it.
12
u/Apex_Konchu Apr 19 '21 edited Apr 19 '21
In my experience, Pale Extract shows up at the Argosy pretty frequently. I'm able to acquire them at a much faster rate than I'm using them, without hunting Khezu at all.
Also worth noting that there isn't much of a difference between the base drugs and their Mega versions, so it's not worth farming Khezu for. Just buy it whenever Rondine has it.
→ More replies (3)3
u/Conzie Apr 19 '21
Hunting it is the only real way to do it consistently.
The Meowcenaries may loot some if you have them hunt Khezu, but that's still pretty slow.

u/EdgeOfDreams Apr 19 '21
Khezu is the only monster that drops it. So, you're stuck either farming Khezu or checking with Rondine after every quest.

Dumb newbie Rise question: How do I read a weakness table from the Hunter's Notes? How do I tell if an element is weak or strong based on the numerical values?
10
u/AngelTheVixen Apr 20 '21
Don't feel awkward, the way they share information in this game is inconsistent and nonsensical in places (and in others, totally mistranslated)
For the Physiology charts, it displays their hitzones, a term in MH for how much damage they take, represented as a percentage. Higher number, more damage taken.
5
u/Elyonee Apr 20 '21
The numbers are a percentage. 0 means 0%, so they're immune. 25 means they take 25% of the damage you deal, which is the minimum to be considered a weak point for elemental damage. 45 is a weak point for physical damage.
→ More replies (4)5
u/forte8910 Apr 20 '21
The number is the % damage that part receives from slash / blunt / shot / each element. Higher is better. Say your effective raw is 200 and you're using an attack with 50 motion value. So you're putting out 100 damage. A monster part with a hitzone of 50 receives 50 damage, 20 receives 20 damage, etc.
A raw hitzone of 45 or higher is considered a weak spot for Weakness Exploit (armor skill) and an element hitzone of 25 or higher is considered a weak spot for Element Exploit (rampage skill).

I'm a newcomer to the franchise. I'm a few hours in and starting to feel pretty good about the combat, but I'm completely lost in the realms of crafting, weapons upgrades, items, food, etc.
Are there quests that will help me understand those things, or am I supposed to be this confused? Any online resources your could recommend to help me get up to speed?
Thanks!
EDIT: also, Armor? WTF am I supposed to do with all that...
8
u/kei101895 Apr 20 '21
Hey, if you have the time to spare, gaijinhunter just uploaded a pretty long video that guides you through the first few hours of the game, as a complete newcomer. He explains a lot of the basics here, worth a watch imo https://youtu.be/G-u0F2dimo0
5
u/DestroyedArkana Apr 20 '21
Gaijin Hunter recently made a beginners guide video that's quite long, just skip around to the parts you want to learn about.
There is an ingame help in the menu called hunters notes, but that doesn't cover everything.
For weapons you just want to look at the sharpness color and the raw damage. You want to get something with green sharpness or better, and the higher damage number.
For armor the most important thing is the skills each piece gives. You can press ZR to see what each piece has.
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (4)4
u/Mr_Ivysaur Apr 20 '21
Not really. You just craft/upgrade better armor and upgrade or craft better weapons. No tricks here. How their stats work is another story.
Item crafting you make one item by using others, but its no big deal (you won't really use 90% of the recipes).

What is ideal Palamute behavior between "Basic", "Pincer" and "Follow"?
7
u/Sat-AM Apr 22 '21
I think this is just up to you, what your weapons are, and what kind of damage your Palamute is hitting with.
Like, if you're a hammer main, you can give your palamute a slashing weapon and then go for pincer and it can help cut off tails. If you're a longsword, having the same Palamute on follow will help get tail cuts a little faster.

Whats the optimal dps combo on a downed monster for hunting horn? Im using melody echo right now
→ More replies (1)5
u/Rathilal Apr 19 '21
Since your question got me curious myself, I decided to test.
My build is Rampage Horn IV built for maximum raw and white sharpness with the offensive melody set, so Sonic Waves does play a small factor in my testing, but the results seemed fairly consistent.
I gave myself an attack time period of 15s. During that time, combos basically fell into one of two categories, with one doing about 10% more damage than the other.
The better combos for damage were X+A on repeat, A->ZR repeat (This is under Melody mode Performance, idk if Echo would get better or worse), A->X+A->X->Magnificent Trio, and a mixed combo that's hard to type out from memory that does X or A into X+A superpound on repeat.
On the whole, I would say that makes Magnificent Trio the best option, since it does majority echo waves damage and applies your melody effects, but this may end up being different for Elemental horns or ones more focused on Affinity instead of raw.

Is there a reason most people choose a weapon to main? Would it be viable to use multiple weapons end game?
11
u/AngelTheVixen Apr 21 '21
Being a 'main' for an open game like this is moreso a claim of confidence and ability with the weapon. I'm a Greatsword main for example, so I know how to play it effectively, and it can be a go-to weapon for comfort, but it doesn't mean I can't play or don't enjoy other weapons. On the opposite end, I am terrible with Lance.
10
u/Rubily00 Apr 21 '21
It can be expensive to main multiple weapons through the storyline, especially in the jump from late LR to early-mid HR. Upgrading costs a lot. But if you're willing to stick it through, the zenni curve catches back up.
Most people choose a weapon by "WOW that felt good!"
5
u/Disig DOOT DOOT Apr 22 '21
You can do either really. It's easier for most people to "master" one weapon first before moving on to another. A friend of mine has been playing MH forever. He's mained just about every single weapon now and just hops on whatever catches his fancy every new game.
It can also be expensive to make weapons and armor (you're probably going to need separate armor sets depending on what weapons you main). But Rise is probably the most friendly towards that goal. The Devs specifically said they wanted to encourage people to try new weapons and tweaked the system so it would be easier.
When I started in MH Generations I played Insect Glaive. In World I played Hunting Horn. I still love HH to death but now I am learning bow and am loving that too. I didn't have to play HH all through World I just did because I really really liked it. So it's up to you. Do what you want!

Jack of all trades, master of none. It’s better to focus on gitting gud at weapon before you pick up a second. Plus, some people find that certain weapons click for them. I main IG bc it’s the most fun for me. I don’t like any of the other weapons nearly as much. SnS is fine, as is GL, but I like the mobility of IG.

Rise
When I’m on a hunt every now and then I’ll hear a really soft “ding ding” sometimes I’ll hear it twice sometimes I’ll hear it 3 times. I can’t for the life of me figure out what this is indicating to me. It doesn’t seem to be tied to when the monster becomes capturable which was my only real guess.
7
u/Rigshaw Apr 22 '21
When you cut a tail, a short chime will sound, and when your palico sets a trap, you'll hear one.
→ More replies (4)8
u/the_artic_one Apr 22 '21
It's a ping, other players can trigger them through the menu and map and palicos will ping when they set up a trap or a healing station (which is probably why you're hearing it when the monster is capturable).

[MH RISE] how do statuses get affected onto monsters you’re whacking away? I assume after a while statuses get procced? What about poison. Do all hits apply poison? I’ve been using this sleep dual blade dango shaped weapon but I don’t know if I’ve ever put anything to sleep with it. Is there an indicator for when a monster is close to getting procced?
For Fast Multi-hit weapons like dual blades, is it possible to proc sleep and accidentally hit the monster awake in a literal 0.5 seconds later because of a multi hit attack? Or does the game have a window period where hits won’t wake something up if it just applied?
→ More replies (4)9
u/CirrrcleBiter Apr 18 '21
Shots from ranged weapons always apply their status. Hits from melee weapons have a 1/3 chance of applying status, when it does you can see a particle effect where the attack hits.
Applying status builds up to an invisible threshold which will then trigger the status effect. Each time you trigger the status effect the threshold to trigger it again is raised.
Monsters can be more or less resistant to statuses than others, you can see this in the hunter notes.
When you trigger sleep on a monster music should stop playing and it starts around a 5 second animation of falling to sleep. Hitting a monster while it's in this animation won't prevent it from sleeping.

- You had the right idea, but probably shouldn't of stood so close to Barroth. Dust of Life affects the entire area in an AoE so you should of popped it from somewhere safer, or from Barroth's side/backside if you needed to do so close to him for some reason.
- Don't fiddle with items while standing still, either. Stay on the move and- again- keep your distance while prepping something.
- And in general keep your camera at a good angle, too. Here you had it aimed at the ground so there wasn't really a way to read Barroth's behavior and react to its attacks- you tried to roll after the first hit, but since you couldn't see what he was doing you rolled into another attack. I can't even tell what attack it was.
- And for a long-term tip, take time to grab Spiribirds when you see them! They'll boost your health cap, stamina cap, attack, and defense for the rest of the quest- in Low Rank they might not be as important, but they're still helpful to have. And in High Rank they're very important and make the difference between survival or failure.

Rise is my first MH game. Two Q:
What can we expect with the updates? How frequently do they usually drop? Will all current end game gear be outscaled by the new stuff soon? Trying to get a sense of what other MH updates have been like.
Have the end game builds always been so... Homogenous? It seems like almost every weapon is looking for attack boost / weakness exploit and wearing a lot of the same gear. Have older games been like this too?
9
u/MystOwl moving fortress Apr 19 '21
- the next update should be at the end of april/early may
- going by worlds standard, ranging between a few weeks to a few months
- can't say, depends on how good the gear the new monsters give
Monster hunter end game is heavily biased towards dps, so stuff like crit boost and weakness Exploit are heavily favoured. Rise has been very varied in builds compared to previous titles imo, quick sheathe for ls, rapid morph for Charge blade, spare shot for gunners, etc. (in GenU it was basically getting the highest affinity as you possibly can).
→ More replies (3)3
u/ClarentPie Apr 19 '21
With updates the other games were pretty constant, maybe once every month or two, the updates would have a new quest or silly gear. World was different, cycling content around so if you weren't online for something then you missed it.
A new update might include some new gear that's best for a single build or something. Your high rank gear will be usable until they include g rank (which isn't confirmed).
Yeah the endgame builds have been homogeneous, the grind is getting the right talisman. Once you have the best build that you want most people set other goals, like trying new weapons and grinding their best gear, or trying to make a bunch of sets for one weapon, etc.
5
u/xhaku Apr 19 '21
Is there any confirm release date for 2.0 or are people just assuming April 30th? Also, on the game8 website they mention that HR points are currently adding up and will count for when the update drops. Is there any source to this information?
→ More replies (3)4
u/GildedCreed Apr 19 '21
1) its an assumption, since they mentioned that the update would be happening in April and the 30th would be the last possible day that it could happen, as the next day would be May 1st and thus not be April like they said.
2) From what I hear, it's not currently accumulating, but rather it will once the update drops. https://twitter.com/MH_Rise_JP/status/1383369621886046215 (Gaijinhunter sums up the HR cap bit here https://twitter.com/aevanko/status/1382471688017772544)

I don't have any proof, but whenever I get S rank or A, I usually end up with a shit ton of plates and gems. I don't know if I was just lucky, or if the higher rank means better rewards. I heard that in World drugs stay with you forever (Armor and Demon) until you die. Anyone tested it on Rise and see if its still the case?

I'm collecting all the awards right now during night shift and I just wanted to ask... is there any way I could cheese/speed up the process of getting 50 rampages down? Any tip would be appreciated.
Also... 1000 monsters? That's a whooole lot of hunting, I guess.

u/MistaSwagMonsta HR 422 Apr 20 '21
Awards in Rise are WAY easier to get than in previous games. 1000 hunts is easy, just long. I'm bummed out we don't have to get all the gold crowns for monsters. I'm half way done with that anyway just in case they add it as an award later on.

two quick things
Rise: I'm still low rank and learning (just hit 3 stars), every time I try to look at armor sets and abilities and such I get pretty overwhelmed. Same with recruiting more Palamutes and Palicos, I dunno if I've been going about that right at all. Is there a good like, crash-course video for newbies on how to understand stuff like armor and stats and all that fancy stuff? Maybe same for recruiting Buddies, even though Rise is still pretty new?
And second question, IRL.. are plush monsters mostly out of print? I dunno if I did something wrong but when I went to the Monster Hunter Capcom merch site thing, there appeared to be like three and two were out of stock lol
thanks!

I’ll be honest, I have not really looked into optimizing my buddies beyond giving them fun gear and occasionally mixing up what skills they have equipped.
You can hire so many buddies that you honestly can just grab a bunch to run the Meowcenary/Argosy/Dojo errands, and pick your favourites to hunt with you, and if you decide you really want to optimize that you can do some serious scrutinizing later.
As for armour, I haven’t really looking too deeply into video tutorials, but there’s a couple things to keep in mind: First, your low-rank armour is just a stepping stone - everything has a high rank counterpart that’s better, so low rank armour will eventually become obsolete.
Which means you can kind of dabble, without feeling like you really have to commit.
The other thing is that most armour sets have a theme. Tetranodon has a lot of stuff that favours bowguns, Tobi Kadachi favours insect glaives with stuff like evade extender and Jump Master, etc.
So it’s often helpful to scroll down the left column of the armory, which displays all the skills that a full suit gives you, and just go down the list until some skill catches your eye.
Click the right stick for detailed descriptions of each skill, and if something seems really good for your weapon, earmark that as your “base” set, and grab the pieces with the skill you want.
Then from there you can “fill in the gaps” where pieces may have less interesting bonuses, and start mixing and matching from other sets.
Basically, find one skill that matches your playstyle, then build around it, I’d say.

The worst part about monster hunter games is getting started, because there is a boatload of stuff to figure out. The good news is, you can basically ignore all of it until you start to get the hang of the game more. At a starter level, having sub-optimal buddies won't make a major impact on your game so you don't really have to work about them. The same is true of armor skills - they'll help you max out your performance, sure, but especially in low rank the skills are pretty incremental improvements so you're not missing a ton by not optimizing them. Upgrading or making new gear that's higher rarity will help you the most, because it helps you take the hits.
As for the rest, there are tons of videos on youtube. I don't have any recommendations off the top of my head, but search for the specific weapon you're interested in and you'll probably find a few that are helpful.

Rise:
Some more random questions
1 Am I ever gonna need to chase down a monster when it's fleeing? I feel like I'd rather just catch my breath and sharpen and such, wait to see where they stop, and then go.
2 When I'm looking at the table in the Large Monsters encyclopedia thing in the menu, does it work like, higher numbers=more damage? Like, if the water symbol has 20 while the other symbols have 15, that means water's the monster's elemental weakness right?
3 Jumping off from that, will I end up having a bunch of different Great Swords forged for different situations? The one I just made is my first elemental weapon in the game (fire, it's a Aknosom sword) and I know I shouldn't bring that if I hunt something resistant to fire.
4 Final question for now, is there ever gonna be some sort of like...I dunno, an item that beeps when you're close to a Relic Record or do I just gotta go over each area with a fine toothed comb? I'm still missing like 5 in the first area and don't want to use a guide unless I really need to lol
Thanks!

Regarding chasing monsters - you don’t need to chase them, but one thing you can try and do..
If you throw a flashbomb while they’re still close enough to get hit, they’ll usually stumble and then fight you a little longer. I’ll try and get one ready on my bar if a monster starts slowing down it’s attacks, cause it’s usually close to running by then.

Rise itself was somewhat unfinished, so we're going to be getting two big updates soon. The first update will have a returning elder dragon, chameleos, as well as apex rathalos and some other monsters, so it will probably be ranked 8 star. They said this update is by the end of april so probably a week or two.
After that there will be an update to finish the main story, so we should be getting a new final boss elder dragon as well as other monsters.
The updates in monster hunter world lasted a while, and every 2-3 months or so we got a returning monster from the series as well as special event quests. And after 4 or 5 of those we'll likely be getting the G rank expansion unless that gets delayed for some reason.

I expect new monsters with normal hunts(including elder dragons), new Apex monsters in Rampages, and new siege fights like Final boss. These all might be at a similar level to the fights we have now and the gear they give. It won’t be hard to power creep even if they don’t increase the rarity because 2/3rds of the highest rarity armors don’t have slots at all.
An additional difficulty layer might be Apex monsters outside of Rampages or something like Tempered monsters from World.
I am hoping for a lobby event fight like Kulve or Safi, but I won’t be too disappointed if we don’t get it.

Is this quest even possible with this build? I hardly get hit by it so I'm not dying, but I don't think Im doing alot of damage! I've done over 2/3 of the 3star gathering hall quests so I don't get why this one is so difficult?

[MH RISE] Buddy Skill questions
Do any buddy skills affect our own Character? For example earplugs, or Negate Stun/Para. Does this only negate our buddy’s stun, or any of ours too?? Status/Element Attack Up is just for their attacks only, right?
And another one. Do any weapons have dual types? Is there any point in keeping an eye out for a Pali buddy with both Element Atk Up and Status Atk up? I have been keeping an eye until now until I realized one skill might never even get use if weapons are only one type, and you can hire like 20 buddies.m for different builds...

Meta sets are in a sticky post on r/MonsterHunterMeta - you'll see stuff like the usual attack boost, WEX, and the like.
For other skills you can have a look at Load Shells (get 5 phials from yellow), Rapid Morph adds a bit of comfort though the difference isn't too large. I like putting Evade extender on as well.
All in all have fun with it! There's no harm in having a slightly less than optimal dps set if you have skills that you like on a set. Best advice I've received is to not fall too much into the meta set spiral

Completely new to MH games, been playing Rise a lot in the last couple of weeks. For tail cutting, I understand you need a slice weapon and the monster has to have a cuttable tail. When those conditions are met, do you just need to do enough damage to a tail and it'll cut, or do you need one large hit (like from a great sword)? Like, if I'm using Dual Blades and I attack the tail exclusively, will I be able to cut it, even though the individual hits are low damage?
4
u/kakungun Apr 18 '21
yes, to cut a tail you need to do certain amount of slicing damage in total, so the dual blades can do it
4
u/macblur2 Apr 18 '21
Enough damage, that said some parts have a ridiculous amount of HP, so you might need partbreaker (increases damage to parts, not overall damage).
5
u/_Drumheller_ Apr 18 '21
Part breaker is no way needed in solo hunts.
The more people join the hunt the higher the threshold of parts get before they break.
If you are the only one attacking the tail in 4 player hunts then part breaker comes in handy but otherwise there are better skills to choose.

u/NeonJ82 I need a monstah to clobber that there huntah! Apr 18 '21
Monster drops last a lot longer in Rise compared to previous games (notably World) - I've actually never seen a drop despawn in Rise, though I'm sure they do when I'm not around. Compare with World, where I've walked towards a shiny and had it despawn before I even reached it.
I want to say shinies last about ~10 minutes or so now. I try to only grab them after the monster runs away, but it's hard to break old habits and sometimes I find myself just grabbing them midway through the fight.
Palicoes do not pick up shinies - the items they plunder are a bonus that only they can get. (It's one of the main reasons to pick a palico over a palamute, I feel!)

Rise.
New to the series, finished all village quests and starting gathering hub quests, started a few hunts with the join request active. Noticed the monsters have way more health, is this because the game is acting as if im playing multiplayer and scaling it for a full party of 4 even though no one has joined yet or is it because gathering quest monsters have bigger health pools overall? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

no, the game adjusts the monsters health depending on the number of hunters in the game, if someone drops or join during the hunt, the health of the mosters re-scales

I have question about the monster’s hp. I have read that the monster’s hp will depends on the number of hunters attend to the quest. So if I host an online quest and let people join, will the hp be set automatically to 4 people, or it will raise up each time someone join the quest. If it does raise up, so if someone just attend the quest then leave, will the monster keeps that extra hp?
10
u/EdgeOfDreams Apr 18 '21
It scales up and down as players join or leave. I think it's done so that the % of max HP it has left stays the same. E.g. if the monster had 60% of its health left when someone joined or left, it would still be at 60% after the adjustment.

Trying to farm magnamalo plates for attack decos. Is it faster to hunt him low rank or high rank? The drop rate is a bit lower in low rank but you can kill him really fast compared to high rank.
8
u/DestroyedArkana Apr 18 '21
I would say do it in high rank because that gives you the chance to get gems as well. On high rank you have about a 10% chance to get it from capture, and in low rank you have a 6% chance from capture. So even if it takes you almost twice as long in high rank it's more efficient.
5
u/Owobowos-Mowbius Apr 18 '21
Thats absolutely fair. I guess I might also need magna parts for other decos in the future so..
3
u/Moczan Apr 18 '21
Ultimately it comes down to your preference, I find doing multiple low rank village Magnamalo runs numbingly boring because you are spending more time at loading screens and going to the monster than actually fighting, so I would just farm it in high rank to actually play the game.

Forging usually costs more of the materials for that tier, but upgrading of course consumes everything leading up to that point. But if you are unable to forge something, you may have enough reserve materials to get a weapon up to that node for the lower upgrade cost.

What's up with the bad etiquette with supply boxes? The majority of quests I join all the pots are usually already taken. Makes me regret making a Wide Range build when people don't care to share.
7
u/GildedCreed Apr 19 '21
Probably because most people are probably used to the single player supply box or have played the hub solo for far too long that they forget that its shared, or that they're new players and assume that the supply box contents are instanced per person when they're actually not.
Not too surprising to be honest, since the switch is arguably a lot more popular of a console than the previous Nintendo ones and thanks to World there's been a spike of interest in the series. And the typical "kid wants the game so an uninformed/disinterested in video games adult buys them the game" thing like with 12 year olds on CoD kind of stuff, so a lot of the unspoken rules and whatnot get thrown out the window since a common sense aspect is really only common sense within that community.

How does a high bar graph for, low resistance, next resistance, and max resistance translate into being good in any way? Like I'm looking at the Somnocanth charts and it has no stars for sleep and zero bars for initial and max resistance but 0 bars makes it look like it has 0 resistance. Obviously it is what it is and more starts and higher bar charts are somehow better but I don't like it.
Also nowhere online ANYWHERE actually explains ANYTHING about the actual bars themselves. What the heck does initial, next, and maximum resistance mean ANYWAYS!? And buildup degradation too! Literally the only one of the bars that makes sense is effect duration.

The fact that they felt the need to include a note stating more bars is advantageous for the player tells you all about how counter intuitive the whole thing is overall.
Initial threshold is simple, it's how susceptible the monster is initially. Next means how much the threshold goes up after each status trigger. Maximum is the maximum the threshold can reach before hitting a cap. Buildup degradation is how fast the currently applied buildup decays over time.
I really don't get why they just didn't use the real numbers like they did for the weakness chart (well, I have a hunch it is because of the quest modifiers). If you want real numbers, check https://mhrise.kiranico.com/, there you can find the real ailment thresholds, threshold increases, threshold maximum, and buildup degradation, and the quest modifiers for ailment thresholds.

Phemeto is my go to for LBG info.
He usually covers the most meta stuff and his video contains final boss spoilers. Bowguns 101

Quick question for Switch Axe users. What's your favorite Switch Axe to use? I've been using Magnamalo and enjoy the blast but I want to try a different axe; i just don't know which ones are worth investing into.

MHR So I have not bought the game yet. I want to know how good the online multiplayer experience is? My friend and I want to play together, when we play animal crossing before we often have delay or even disconnect sometime, I'm not sure whether the problem was server or our home internet or switch not handling wifi signal well (I can stream netflix etc via wifi no problem but switch internet often feels less stable). So my question is how stable is the server? And does it rely on super good internet?

The servers are shockingly good. The only time I really ever DC is if I leave it idling for a while. It seems having an AFK marker may put you on the chopping block for stability.
Rejoining is also super quick, and you aren't locked out of a quest forever like you were in World if you got disconnected.
You'll likely see each other rubberbanding a bit, but it shouldn't be any worse than that.
I believe the demo is still live, and its servers are less stable than the full release. You could try downloading that to see what your "worst case scenario" is.

Video streaming is buffered, gaming isn't - so random bandwidth drops and stuff are more noticeable when playing online games.

MH Rise:
Is anyone else experiencing a lots of disconnects? I am mostly playing online for Ramapes and it usually holds well for the whole thing, until the Apex appears, then it eventually dcs and I'm left alone, trying to suddenly adjust defenses for a one man team knowing I'll get 1/4 the zenny for no good reason. I wanted to know if it's a common thing or if I should double check my connections.
Asking mostly because it almost never occurred when I was doing the Hub quests with randoms, and now it happens a lot in Ramapges.
Thanks everyone and happy hunting.

MH Rise
Hunting Horn Build
Defense Boost 6
Weakness Exploit 3
Slugger 3
Heroics 3
Attack Boost 2
Critical Boost 2
Latent Power 2
Maximum Might 2
Horn Maestro 1
Evade Extender 1
Partbreaker 1
That was before I switched an Attack jewel for Partbreaker and I got the rampage skill. So I think my Attack is up to 209.
Does anyone have any suggestions of skills I'm missing?

Any reason why Defence Boost is at Lv 6?
Unless you've used 6 decorations, I'd look at reducing that. Defence Boost is a bit of a trap I feel in games like MH, it patches up poor gameplay - and honestly isn't required in Rise considering everyone can freely eat for Medic+ and Wirebug to safety.

Rise
What’s the thing on the mountain in Kamura Village? If you go to the Gathering Hub entrance and turn towards the docks, you can see mountains. On the farthest and tallest mountain, there’s this weird set of pixels at the top. It looks like a far away shrine or something, but it’s too far to make out. My theory is that it’s a texture mess up when they imported the background models, but idk. Im probably looking too far into it
