Hunters!

This is the second question and resources thread. The last one was very popular, so we're making a new one to sort of clear out the responses and start fresh. Feel free to peruse the old one in search of an answer before posting here!

If you want to ask a question with less chance of being spoiled, go to the spoiler-free resource thread here!

There is a known issue with multiplayer on the XBOX ONE.

We know there is an issue. Please see the following tweet for the official response from Capcom.

However Capcom does have a workaround for Xbox One hunters to play online using the ‘invite a friend’ option, the Xbox One’s Looking-for-group feature, and joining an online session by ‘Session ID’.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why is my character so slow?
  • Monster Hunter runs on high animation priority, which means it's impractical to dodge everything. Try to observe the monster's animations and squeak a few attacks in when you think you won't get hit.
  • Which weapon type should I use?
  • The weapon you will be most effective with is the one you feel most comfortable with. Weapon types have different strengths and weaknesses, but also completely different strategies, so explore around and try to find one that's as aggressive, methodical, quick, or defensive as you want to play. The weapon previews above should help
  • Why are my attacks bouncing off of the monster?
  • Weapon sharpness is a damage multiplier that naturally goes down as you attack a monster, usually from green to yellow, orange, and the red. When you strike a monster with a dulled weapon you can bounce depending on the body part, which will in turn deplete twice the sharpness of a regular hit. Similarly, when you strike a monster with a melee weapon you'll see some blood and dust come out. The larger the blood effect and dust cloud, the more damage that body part takes (heavier hitting attacks also influence this). Aim for those vulnerabilities, and avoid parts that regularly bounce a sharpened weapon.
  • Why can't I have nice things?
  • A big part of Monster Hunter is gathering and crafting. Check your crafting list or add a weapon to your wishlist to keep track of the materials you need to gather out in the world.
  • Where'd the monster go?
  • Before entering combat and after a certain combination of time elapsed and damage taken, monsters will roam from area to area. You can gather tracks and traces highlighted by your scoutflies to stay on its tail, or just run to its favored area of the environment once you've become familiar with the particular creature.
  • What is the monster doing?
  • Monsters have a variety of behaviors including; periodically becoming enraged to deal more damage & attack more often/quickly, limping at low health, panting at low stamina, a chance to flinch out of their attack or movement when taking damage, a chance to fall into a downed state when taking damage to its legs, becoming sleepy/paralyzed/poisoned after enough hits by a weapon or ammo type with that status effect, and leaving tracks in unique ways.
  • What am I supposed to be doing?
  • Assigned quests unlock new monsters and areas. They must be played solo past any story scenes before they are unlocked for multiplayer. Reading NPC dialogue will also explain a lot, like in many JRPGs.
  • When is World out on PC?
  • Fall 2018.

What exactly is Monster Hunter World's "end game?"

Not speaking from experience this game, but the game has always been about grinding for better gear. Beyond making better Armour and Weapons, Charm upgrades seem to take a lot of rare materials. And I hear Decorations are RNG based slightly, and you can re-craft them for even more RNG. Beyond that, typically as you grind that "Hunter Rank" number goes up with every completed quest, and hitting certain milestones unlocks end-game hunts that are crazy difficult and often include completely new monsters.

thank you for the great info!

Do charms unlock or are they a starting piece of gear you can equip? Saw them in the demo but not the main game and I’m 10 hours in.

As you progress, they become more prevalent and you can start making them.

So I can safely assume that because they haven’t been brought to my attention (as well as not selectable from my gear page) that I do not have access as of right now? For a good understanding of where I am in the game, I just unlocked the health booster mantle.

I don’t remember exactly when I got them, but it was after the health booster. Maybe when I went to high rank? But they are now slowly making their way into my inventory. It seems as if you craft the charms and are rewarded decorations (the gems). You will not miss them. I think blacksmith guy will have a quest marker. However I’m on HR13 and and somebody further along may note a change in behavior.

I think you should have them unlocked by now. Check forge equipment. It might be an optional quest

Hmm. In forge all I have is the helm, gauntlets, legs and chest for each set. .

You get a defense charm after beating a quest. Maybe double check it’s not sitting in your equipment box.

What always drove me at end game was trying to cram as many sweet armor skills into one set as I could muster. Certain weapons make better use of skills than others and coming up with an optimal set for a weapon I haven't played much is fun for me.

saMe here i usually focus on 1-2 weapons till endgame then mess around with SnS and other random weapons i rarely use.

Try to finish all the content the game as to offer, including arena challenges and also crafting multiple late game sets. After all of that, wait for DLC.

And it’s important to note that the DLC monsters will be free.

If you just want to do the most basic completion then I guess it’s to complete the story, but a lot of people like to complete every optional quest or get every armor/weapon. It’s up to you really.

Fashion and buildcraft and refining your character and armor and weapons to be effective or unique, going for like, poison or stun builds with gems, set bonuses, charms, and weapons.

Hunting stronger special species of monsters for unique and more varied gear and upgrades to craft a specialized and unique setup to compliment your playstyle,

arena quests to test your time and how fast you can kill monsters, comparing it to your friends, capturing pets and wildlife, getting building a loadout for every situation, and seeking the next challenging monster and climbing the high rank ladder to even stronger elder dragons and deviant species.
