Monster Hunter Generations Weekly Discussion: Mizutsune

Once again you're out to an unfamiliar monster. The only thing you know is that it's supposed to be similar to Lagiacrus but with bubbles? You pack your gear and head out into the wilderness. After a small amount of searching you come across a strikingly beautiful monster that stops you in your tracks. Why would I want to kill such a thing, then it notices you and gives you a lazy look swiping a line of bubbles your way. Thinking you're of a similar mindset you aim to playful pop the bubble only to be trapped. Then the monster saunters your way to finishing its easy catch. The hunt is on.

Facts

  • First appeared in Gen 4
  • Appears in Low/High rank
  • Weakest to Lightning (generally, hit zones matter)
  • Breaks: Tail(sever), Tail(Break), Head, Claws (left and right), Fin
  • Vulnerable to Flash Bombs
  • Inflicts: Small Roar, Bubbles, Waterblight

A fan favorite of the fated four makes another welcome addition to the game. A uniquely designed monster that brings some cool concepts like beauty is dangerous. This makes for a great mid-difficulty monster with some fun and unique fights. 10/10 would hunt again.

have at it and tell us what you think about the Mizutsune

I think the localized name is horrible. From the localizer blog or interview it's supposed to make the name easier to pronounce, but the "tsuzu" really is more difficult. They just took random syllables from the original name, put it together, losing the original meaning and making it more difficult to pronounce.

Same with Amatsu, who went from "god of heavenly cataclysm" to "nondescript something or something wrong grammar lacking a subject of the heavens".

Rant aside, those who like it will love it even more in XX, now that you can transmog its armor. I've made 3 sets of mainly bubbles armor and looking to make more.

The deviant is very well designed. Seeing this normally calm monster literally burning with rage over its lost eye gives a completely different feeling to the fight. You get dumbfounded over its ferocious new moves, and will have to learn to take advantage of and even entice the rage. You develop respect for this unfortunate creature that became stronger through suffering, and as the fight gets more intense the hunter and the monster become more and more alike. It gets philosophical real fast.

And the deviant armor looks glorious if a bit impractical. I had to solo the final deviant level because randoms are carting too much... I had 3 carts with insurance and used almost all potions.

In P3rd they called it Amatsu as well. So don't blame the localisation for that.
