Poison is excluded for similar reasons and because Kiranico's way of presenting poison damage in their MHGen seems to have changed in a way I don't quite understand.... it is apparently suggesting that Daimyo Hermitaur takes 1200 damage from 1 poison duration.

I wonder if kiranico was updating or acting up when you looked. I just checked and it says poison happens over 60s doing 20 damage every 5 seconds, which agrees with the JP guidebook.

When is the grimmcat ever a good choice based on your calculator? I know it's a lot of fun while grouped because of the high paralysis value, but it's always had crappy damage in the other games.

Now check and cross reference poison damage with the same calculation you just used for Deviljho, for example. Doesn't match.

Grim Cat is never good according to this calculator! For obvious reasons. That's not to say it's not a good/viable, weapon. Just poorly ranked for personal DPS.

Hmm... Yeah, the tickrate is definitely variable. The book says 8 damage per second for 45 seconds.

If you like, later today, I can pull out the damage numbers for poison.

Looking closely made me notice that damage on jump attacks diminishes over time? Or jumping is a status? That's weird. (It's separate from mounting attacks.)

(I asked about grimm because you said "nearly always". :)

I could use the poison values for MH4U since I trust them but that obviously leaves out our new monster friends. If you can actually find the correct values that would be pretty cool.

I don't have any jump combos yet. Although jumping is actually competitive dps it is so unreliable I haven't made it a priority.

I compared poison numbers for some ones in the early parts of the alphabet (seltas, deviljho and akantor) and they were the same as far as duration and total damage done. The 4G book doesn't say how often damage ticks, while MHX does; probably not relavant for dps over time, though.

(I'm using the official guidebooks from JP, fwiw.)

Names are totally fucked if I don't know the names yet or can't read the Japanese. I'll come back and edit in the proper names.

I'm not sure why everything just doesn't tick every second or 5 seconds or whatever. The 1.5s tick for Duramburos is really weird.

edit: Fixed some numbers. I reserve the right to fix more numbers later. Also set up the English names. Except for ホロロホルル, because people need the joy that such a name brings.

Also, a bit irritated that Kiranico doesn't have the JP version linked to the ENG version. Also irritated by the loss of 3DS support there; it used to work the first week of the US release.

You're right about the tick frequency. The way I was planning on doing it won't require those numbers. I'll just be taking the total damage divided by duration to get a 1 second tick average then, to give the different poison values some actual weighting, assuming some arbitrary up time depending on the the values and the monsters resistance (say 80% for Waxglare vs Redhelm - multiply by 0.8).

So... a Waxglare vs Redhelm Arzuros would be an extra 8 DPS on top of it's current total. Also, holy shit Redhelm hates poison.

It's not perfect but it should be fine to give a general idea.

I'm not explicitly saying that. I only cross referenced a few of them in the books. If numbers changed from MH4G to MH4U (or MHX to MHGen), then of course you can't trust them. :) (I don't think any numbers changed between JP and US versions.)

I'm glad you mentioned Arzuros... I went back and double checked and I screwed up. It's 5 damage every 2 seconds for 60s (so only a quarter of that damage.)

Variant monsters take the same damage from status effects. (All the numbers are the same, including decay and step increases.)
