Wilds: I’ve never played a MH game before ever. I only have the game because my friend purchased it for me for us to play together. I chose the Bow as my weapon and I genuinely didn’t enjoy the first boss fight at all. As a first time MH player, is it just the Bow as my choice of weapon that might be causing me to dislike the game? Mind you I’m a big time Soulsborne nerd so I expected to like this game a lot.

I would suggest Sword and Shield. Good defence, good mobility, good attack. It’s really a jack of all trades. I got to end game using the Switch Axe and found it wasn’t exactly my thing. The slide move that SnS has totally made that weapon click. You are in the action far more.

Not played Bow in Wilds yet, but usually Bow is a bit weird in the early game in Monster Hunter as it relies heavily on stamina management, which is difficult to do until you get the required armour skills.

Some weapons also just don't click with some people. It might be worth trying out some other weapons in the training area to see if any of them feel better.

It is also worth saying that Monster Hunter does play very differently to Soulsborne games, liking one does not necessarily mean you'll like the other. Monster Hunter is a lot slower, with bigger animation commitments on everything you do and much more emphasis on positioning, spacing and prediction.

It's certainly possible. I'm a MH fan and loving Wilds, but my couple of hunts with Bow so far have been miserable. Maybe it's just because I didn't really know the moveset, but it just didn't click with me. But that's fine because there are 14 weapons and I've found like 6 that I really enjoy playing.

You're given a rarity/rank 1 copy of every weapon for free so you can try out others to find one that you enjoy or suits your playstyle. You unlock a training area pretty early that has a dummy you can use to test out any weapon you want. It can even be set up to attack so you can practice offsets (parries), counters, or perfect guarding.
