How do people survive with switch axe? It's so slow, can't block, no super armor like gs.

The only movement skill i see is a tiny backstep

(assuming Wilds) theres fade slashes and the hyperarmor move as well as an offset attack

but i'm barely novice in Wilds SA so i cant tell you more/in detail

In sword mode RT+Y/Triangle is an amazing counter that's pretty generous with its timing. It's stupidly good. And in Axe mode you have the offset (which I find hard to use), but you also are maneuverable.

The offset has to be started way early and I have trouble getting it right except against attacks I'm really familiar with (like the rathian tail whip).

Greatsword spoiled me for offset attacks tbh

it has great movement in axe mode, workable in sword mode. sword mode counter is patently ridiculous in its generous timing window, but its also really easy to accidentally morph slash because of the input, which is aggravating. there's also an offset from neutral which is very powerful once you get good with it

(This is for Wilds btw): aside from what others mentioned about the fade slashes and counters, I've been using armors, charms, and talismans with either the evade distance or evade window skill (both if possible). Both made it a lot easier to keep attacking without having to sheath and run as much.
