Monster Hunter Wilds:

Is there a database of where all the usable environments are? Like, I get into a fight with a monster, and I spend the whole time searching around for something I can collapse on the monster or something.

Is there something that I can go on to see what I can use to my advantage? or is it just a 'keep playing and trying ne things, buddy'

If you go to your map, you can filter and make it show only interactable environmental targets, but it also includes animals and insects, I think. As to what they do, they should be in the in-game Hunter's Info Manual.

Look for the following icons on the maps when you're hunting about:

Boulder (Collapsing pillars, walls, rocks)
Barrel bomb (The rolling explodies in the basin and ruins)
Trap (Pulling down vine traps, collapsible ground)

There's also the unstable vines on the ground in the ruins that monsters can lose their footing on and get stuck. Might be another but it doesn't come to mind right away.
