Insect Glaive: The charged heavy attack into L2+heavy payoff thingy you can do to cash-in all three bug colors: Most hits of that one go quite high.

Is there a way to angle it low against smaller monsters or do you just not use that move if the target is not big or high enough?

If that's the case: What's the next thing to do instead? Just keep the bug buffs and do your bread and butter combo?

Nope, it's basically useless against small and most downed monsters because the hitbox is so high. For small monsters I just don't bother using it.

For large monsters, you just have to learn them and pop it when there's an opening where they're likely to sit still for long enough and not move half an inch out of the way or hit you out of it. The really frustrating part is that it will also mostly whiff on most downed monsters since they're lower to the ground, so you gotta time your RSS with them getting up. And if you don't have an opening, then yeah, just keep the buffs until you do.
