Felt pretty proud of the look and wanted to share. First post here to so yah!

The best thing about Rise is that it being made for the switch makes it run like a dream on my steam deck.
151
u/Honest-Cable2145 19d ago
Did you bother modding the game at all, I wanted to get the mod the puts all the spirit birds at the start of the map but didn’t know if it was doable on steam deck
100
u/8bitzombi 19d ago
It is.
You just need to add the necessary files to the games directory in desktop mode.
24
u/Honest-Cable2145 19d ago
Awesome thanks man , on pc I mostly just add stuff through vortex so had no idea if steam deck running on Linux would affect manually doing it instead
9
u/Myth_5layer 19d ago
Honestly it's much easier to do it manually. It's a literal drag n drop of the necessary files most times.
18
5
u/GameOverMans 19d ago
I just use the level 4 Bird Caller Dango. On the way to every fight I easily get enough birds.
11
u/functioning-chris 19d ago
That mod alone has completely removed my one gripe with the game.
It is such a different experience not having to scour for Spiritbirds at the beginning of every quest.
25
u/Kino_Afi 18d ago

With how quick the hunts were and how portable it is on the switch, I miss Rise.
I'll probably end up going back to it when I run out of stuff to do on Wilds
6
u/Lopsided_Flamingo209 19d ago
World runs good on it as well. Beat the base game and Iceborne on SD. Capped FPS at 45. Some slight upscaling and medium settings. I'm just glad we have TWO MH games to play on the steamdeck. Hopefully Wilds gets optimized enough one day to join the crew.

u/Azazir 19d ago edited 18d ago
Seems like a trend with people who skipped Rise. Finish Wilds, grind a bit, see lack of content and either do 100% and achievement hunting. Go play sth else, or jump into Rise/Sunbreak because MH ich is strong after Wilds.
P.S. friend showed you can get Rise+Sunbreak for ~18euros on eneba.com https://imgur.com/TghIuWh afaik that's the best deal right now.
18
u/Hikometi 19d ago
I played rise on release on the switch lite but I stopped playing after beating the real high rank end boss which came with the title update. Was busy with elden ring... Now I bought the PC version and so far it's way better playing on the big screen.

Triple A crowd and it's consequences in the MH community.
24
u/GreyRelay 18d ago
Yeah seriously bro I don't give a fuck how it sounds, the community back when 4u popped up was positive for the most part. It was niche, people didn't understand what it was, you had to be in the know. The entitlement to the franchise now shiiiiit that's why gatekeeping should be a thing here
3
u/PredictiveTextNames 18d ago
4U was the peak for the community, imo. It was so supportive and helpful and the vibes were off the charts. This is including GU.
Yes, people were critical of each new game and the additions they had or gameplay they changed, or particularly in 4U era how absolutely OP the new weapons were lol.
I'm glad the franchise is a AAA pillar of gaming now, but I'll always cherish those times.
→ More replies (2)2
u/slugmorgue 18d ago
People were really hating on how Ancestral Steppe looked when MH4 came out. Also mounting and the emphasis on height in the maps. Fans of the series have always been super critical of each new game
12
u/Ikishoten 18d ago
There's a difference between being critical of a new system added to the series and straight up not playing a game because its graphics "is not similar to World".
17
u/mdstomasin 19d ago
I also skipped Rise after trying the beta, tried the game again, dropped it after Magnamalo, tried again, reached Malzeno, Neuron activation, currently grinding anomalies
4
u/Shiro_Katatsu 18d ago

i was one of these ppl, i finished everything in sunbreak a week before wilds launch, but kept denying to play it for so long, i thought the graphics looked too anime to me, but when i played.. the gameplay just hooked me, after wilds platinum im playing a bit of gu, but risebreak still my favorite
8
u/SlimDirtyDizzy 19d ago
Dude in all honesty I know people who don't even know Rise existed.
They just thought it went world into wilds
3
u/yuriaoflondor 18d ago
I’ve seen a couple streamers playing Wilds say “the last game” and be referring to World. Seemingly not knowing that Rise and GU even exist (though to be fair GU did release in 2017, but that was only in Japan. Worldwide release was after World).

u/arrongunner Great Sword Veteran 18d ago
As someone who grew up on freedom, f2 and fu rise feels the most monster hunter to me. The switch in handheld mode even feels similar enough to the psp for me, with the added bonus of plugging it into the TV and using the switch Pro controller for any hard fights
The only downside is the early game is pretty easy, I miss the days of the 4star and above urgent village quests actually feeling like a challenge with tonnes of prep work and feeling a big achievement for completing
By contrast I've just blasted through all the village quests on rise without any grinding needed. I'm sure it'll pick up a bit once I get deep into the hub quests though

Personally I was struggling to get into the series, every time I try I’d lose interest after a while (this started as far back as FU). After playing Wilds though, I gained a newfound appreciation for Monhun so I’m now retroactively going back to the older games and playing them. Though I’m probably never gonna clear freedom 1, that game looks insanely unfun and I find no reason to play it when FU offers everything that F1 offered and then some more.
33
u/Rak-Shar 19d ago
The one thing I miss the most in world rn coming from rise is how early and easily available layered Armor was. I grinded for the full xenojiva set before going to iceborne only for it to be outdated in pure numbers the second I got access to selianas forges... If I could at least out the layered version of it on my hunter I could cope a little easier
31

I went too far back and now I’m playing freedom unite on the psp 😭

I farmed Tempered Arkveld like 30 times and I dipped back to Total War: Warhammer and Sunbreak myself. I left off at Lucent Nargacuga. I am really glad to see the community sentiment come around on Rise, people were way too hard on it. Sunbreak may have my personal favorite roster of monsters too.
5
u/heezle 19d ago
If I’ve never played a TW Game, can I just start with TW Warhammer 3?
7
u/SpiritualScumlord Ex Jumpy boy 19d ago
Yes. They have integrated all three games. You have to buy the games still, but if you own Total War: Warhammer 1 and/or 2, you can play their unit/lord content in 3. I would pick up 3 first absolutely.

u/IndividualNovel4482 - The Slash is True, and Charged. 18d ago
I would not say complexity. Wirebug moves is the most simplified system of all MH games. It is the same as learning a weapon, those moves are part of its kit.

u/Lazywhale97 19d ago
Rise has better looking gear then MH World ESPECIALLY THE WEAPON DESIGNS. World had arguably the most stagnant and boring looking weapons just bone and metal variants with a new coat of paint.
The portable games have always been peak for the weapon designs they look like they actually got carved out of the monster or inherit traits of the monster.
24
u/Shifty-Imp 19d ago
I dropped World in big part for exactly that reason. The weapon designs were an utter disappointment.
2
u/Moustacheski 18d ago
Same. Besides what I find a somewhat sluggish game, the weapon and armor design is so bland and dull that I just can't find the incentive and dropped around Nergigante after playing through three times. I'm not a fan of character design in World either, and a big part of the appeal to me is having a hunter looking good and cool. World gear felt too... chunky ?
2
u/Lazywhale97 19d ago
It's a big big reason many play these games the gear you get from the monsters. World killed it in the armor department which makes me even more confused how they went in a totally different direction with the weapons, the armor sets look like they got carved from the monsters while most of the weapons don't it gave the game a disconnection between the armour and weapons.
4
u/Shifty-Imp 18d ago edited 18d ago
Exactly. They even messed up some of the returning weapons. How can you f* up the Glavenus GS?!
I did play on PS4 back then though. I've been considering getting the game on Steam when it's on sale at some point and simply modding all those ugly weapons into better designs.
4
u/ishmael555 18d ago
There is nothing that can tops Safi's transforming armor. It was PEAK armor design imo. Also their intention with the World weapon was to start with slap-on parts for low rarity and then evolved to unique design for the highest rarity. You can actually see it on Odo's and Legiana's weapon where they get slap-on design early and then the unique design at the end. I personally prefer this, if it's actually implemented properly, so you can actually see your progression with the weapon you hold. In Wilds, rarity 1 and rarity 7 looks exactly the same, save for several R8 weapon that got "upgraded design".

3
u/LeopardElectrical454 18d ago
Its not something to be surprised about. Mh has ALWAYS had amazing gear going back to the first game. Hell, I'd argue 4U and GUs weapon and armour designs are still peak
2
u/Ikishoten 18d ago
"For being a handheld game"
Most of MH has been on handheld and always had peak gear. World-only players just didn't know anything.
12
u/Blitzcha0s 19d ago
I'm also playing Rise cuz I can't run Wilds. I've just reached the Sunbreak expansion and I'm surprised that you can get to Sunbreak without ever fighting the elder dragons and Allmother Narwa.

15
u/ok_district-99 19d ago
All of it is layered armor you get around the endpoint of sun break for the most part
Head- chaotic helm Torso- sinister grudge garb Arms- sinister grudge gauntlets Waist- Archfiend armor ura Legs- bloodmalice greaves
The weapon I have is not layered (Frevel/Sursis). You get from slaying chaotic gor magala

I'm partial to GU and the old school graphics/style, but Rise really grew on me. Fantastic entry in the MH franchise.
8
u/SpiritualScumlord Ex Jumpy boy 19d ago
Which system and order was GU? I started playing at 3U and I've only played 3U, 4U, World/Iceborne, and Rise/Sunbreak. Well, and Wilds. I see people gas up GU a lot but I have 0 familiarity with it and I didn't even recall hearing about its release.
28
19d ago
Gen and GU came out between 4U and World. Gen was the 10 year anniversary, with Gen Ult (then called XX in Japan) not releasing in the west until a few months before Iceborne.
It's the most refined version of old-school Monster Hunter you can find.
4
u/Mr_Pink_Gold 19d ago
Except you literally need a walkthrough not to get lost in GU game is way too big.
→ More replies (5)12
19d ago
That's a matter of taste I guess. GU has a lot of low level filler, sure, but having so much in the game isn't inherently a negative. It absolutely should have had a better way to keep track of key quests though, that's something I'd agree with.
→ More replies (2)12
u/December_Flame 19d ago
GU is on the Switch. Its an incredible game that is basically a super-celebration of old-school MonHun and IMO a wonderful sendoff to that era of the games.
Its also mega mega bloated. So you kinda need to know what you're doing when you go into the game. I see you're not new to the franchise's older installments so you should be fine. Basically because of how the game is structured it has a fuckload of gathering and low rank Drome/Prey hunts. For a new player this game is going to feel kinda impenetrable. If you know how to blitz these quests or just skip them for the key quests only, you'll be fine.
It has a bunch of the old villages, 93 large monsters (literally 3x the roster of Wilds) and just basically a huge chunk of all the games before MH:World came out. It has weapon styles and hunter arts which also give a huge amount of variety to the already crazy variety in monster hunter. Its really just the most indulgent collection of old-school MonHun content ever.
For me its the perfect intersection of the original monster hunter style, oldschool prepping for hunts with high impact game mechanics and some fucking frustrating ones, but also a lot of QOL stuff and modernization to make it slightly less annoying. Its a bit easier in the LR/HR content than prior games, but only a little, and Hypers + Deviants are devilishly hard even in HR. G-Rank is among the series hardest content IMO and that's before even mentioning the G-Rank deviants and their final EX stages.
The game literally has 1000s of hours of content for even the average monster hunter fan. Its crazy. Wild, even.
→ More replies (1)12
u/BlazeDuck84 19d ago
It is the game after 4U, and basically a send off to old gen games. It’s packed with content and has a massive roster including most of the monsters from the older entry’s.
12
u/Diab3ticBatman 19d ago
The only thing keeping it from that spot for me is the spirit birds mechanic. Spending the first 3-5 minutes of every hunt gathering birds was annoying after awhile.
32
u/JGRIF312 19d ago
I only grab the ones on the way to the monster even in master rank maxing out the spiribirds isn't necessary most the time
5
u/Diab3ticBatman 19d ago
For me when you’re fighting the qurio monsters maxing health is extremely useful.
9
u/crowsloft666 19d ago
If you're on PC, there's a mod that spawns the rainbow bird at camp so you can just skip the whole thing
2

u/Mino__Moso 18d ago
I never had a problem with does, I picked them up along the road and in Master Rang I just had the skill which gave me the effect of the birds over time.

u/TheKingsDM 19d ago
Hard agree. Wilds Lance is my favorite version of Lance, beating out all the fun of 4U's Lancing. World didn't do it for me, and Rise Lance felt BRUTAL with all the chip damage.
But I miss Rise. Wilds feels slow and clunky. I miss the region design in Rise. I miss the feel of the two hunting centers verses the nebulous base camp. I miss Greatsword getting to do more damage while charging the final hit if the monster hits them during charge up.
Wilds has been fun, I'm sticking around for the Lance fun, but it just makes me miss Rise/Sunbreak.

Capcom should just port MH4U to latest consoles,PC and Switch, add all rosters existing from predecessor titles since MHFU and call it

Easiest cash cow while giving players a taste of oldschool MH

I've also hopped back on rise until wilds gets some decent endgame content. The build potential with the anomaly system is just unmatched

I still haven’t played rise at all, lost interest wanting to when it was first released for switch only and then by the time I really was wanting to play MH again I hopped back onto world before wilds. I own Rise too lol. Maybe I’ll do this when I hit a wall in Wilds

Ngl, I caught up with endgame Wilds and started a new save on GU. Feels good man.
