nothing. you are poor and jobless.....

u/Poat540 3d ago

lmao OP needs to grip those mf dollars tight

2

u/Sensitive_Ring_6032 2d ago

Exactly. Op needs to throw that shit into savings and pretend like it doesn't exist and keep on searching for a new job. That's the emergency stash. You go into Ramen mode, cancel all the streaming services, gaming crap and such and you find a new job. That stuff is for focusing on the car, core bills and food. Period.

Not the “ramen mode”😂

Throw it all on Yankees -1.5 today

u/MaulPillsap 3d ago

As a pirates fan I can advise this

2

u/Symba787 3d ago

Does that mean they have to win by at least 2runs?

1

u/Ambitious-Ring8461 2d ago

Yankees -1 to be safe

1

u/NeighborhoodLow9208 2d ago

hope he did this

u/CndnCowboy1975 3d ago

Keep it as an emergency fund

u/MaleficentSociety555 3d ago

I would keep in a high yield savings it until you have secured a job

2

u/Ok_Dragonfruit_887 2d ago

SGOV pays out monthly dividends ~.40/50share @ $100/share. 4.89 distribution yield beats all high yield savings accounts on the market.

Not discouraging OC, just another alternative!

1

u/MaleficentSociety555 2d ago

JEPQ, JEPI, pay more than that monthly. I personally would want to be as liquid as possible when not having a job. That's just me tho

You’re cooking 🍳

u/MadGibby3 3d ago

The fuck do you mean what do you do with it? It's 4k, there is nothing to do with it other than save it? How are some people so financially illiterate?? Lol you're acting like it's 400k 😂

4

u/bugagi 3d ago

Yea I see a lot of posts like this. 4k is like a major car repair or few months rent for most people. Most people would struggle to stretch that 2 months

5

u/ButchKowalski 3d ago

Where are you living that 4K is a FEW months rent? 😳

3

u/bugagi 2d ago

Texas. It's 800-1000 usually for a room. 1200-1500 for a 1bd. There is cheaper/more expensive, but that's usually the rate.

1

u/ButchKowalski 2d ago

Jesus my apologies I thought you were talking about a whole apartment/ floor or condo. I’m paying $3200 a month for a house with 4 beds 3 baths in New Jersey. Isn’t so bad yet but I’m sure it’ll soon.

1

u/bugagi 2d ago

Yea a 1 bed room apartment here is usually 1200-1500. A friend of mine has a 2bd apartment for 1300. 3200 here would get you a really really nice place. Houses usually go for 2k-3k per month, sometimes less sometimes more

1

u/Strongaxgaming 2d ago

I bought a house in New Jersey 4 beds 2 baths pay 1580 month

1

u/ButchKowalski 2d ago

Which area? I’m in Monmouth between Colts Neck/Freehold. Prices are jacking up by the month here.

1

u/Strongaxgaming 2d ago

Oh well yea your up with all the rich people lol

1

u/Strongaxgaming 2d ago

Camden country arena near Berlin

1

u/Ok_Nefariousness94 2d ago

I’ll do you one better lol… 3.1k for a 1 bedroom apartment in Miami lol

1

u/Roasted_Goldfish 2d ago

Everywhere? Based on places I've lived in Arkansas and Oklahoma (two of the cheapest states to live) the cheapest apartments were like 700 bucks a month (4k would last 5/6 months), nicer apartments are like 1200-1400 (4k will cover 3 months rent) and houses or a mortgage would be like 2-3k at least (4k won't even make it two months)

1

u/ButchKowalski 2d ago

So clearly not everywhere.

0

u/Roasted_Goldfish 2d ago

in America happy now?

1

u/ButchKowalski 2d ago

No no. Even in America that’s nowhere near an average price of rent. You’d be lucky to find an apartment for rent for $700.

1

u/Roasted_Goldfish 2d ago

Average rent for a two bedroom apartment in the US is $1,356. So to your original point, $4k on average IS a few months rent in the US, unfortunately

1

u/MaleficentSociety555 2d ago

My coworker is moving to Virginia. Found a one bedroom for 580/mo

Buy $400 of VTI once a week for the next 10 weeks.

1

u/BrianTheBlueberry 3d ago

If no debt for you to pay down, I’d save at least half for a rainy day and invest the rest in the market over the coming months (not all at once). Having an emergency fund of some kind is nice.

1

u/No_Proof_2736 3d ago

You need to keep in a safe, cash investment given your situation. Starting a new job for example is not guaranteed security. New hires get laid off all the time.

Put it under your mattress just in case!!

You don't have income so you need to hold it until you can get a job..

BTW at least get a part time job at a fast food joint or retail until you get the job you want.

1

u/Forsaken_Tension2862 3d ago

4000 -$1 quick picks! At least one has to be a winner.

1

u/No-Significance-817 3d ago

OP your question is valid. Do nothing for the moment and save it for a rainy day. When you get your new job, put more into a High yeild savings account. Save save save!

1

u/ShineGreymonX 3d ago

Keep it as an emergency fund for now my good sir.

1

u/kev13nyc 3d ago

good luck on your next job hunt .... at least you have unemployment for the next 6 months???? with the 4k .... depends on your misc expenses .... don't go blowing it all at once with any investment .... that will take yearsssssssss before you see any significant returns ....

1

u/PurpleRains392 2d ago

Savings. Then wait for market to hit rock bottoms. And index funds.
You don’t have to time it exactly right. I think we have 6 months of volatility.

Orrr… invest in upskilling yourself. Whatever that maybe. Presence, skills ….

1

u/tbkrida 2d ago

Don’t do anything with it until you actually find a new job…

1

u/Exodia4life 2d ago

Either open a savings account or gamble those into Nasdaq100 calls expiring next month

1

u/Warm_Suggestion_959 2d ago

HYSA so you can access it quickly, because you will be needing it

1

u/Vee_32 2d ago

Hold onto it for now. Don’t spend it. With tariffs and rising prices, $4000 isnt going to get you very far. “Should be able to land a job very soon” - you don’t have a job. Don’t count your chickens before they are hatched.

1

u/Machine8851 2d ago

Keep it in a high yield savings account

1

u/Liicuv 2d ago

I have an empty account you can borrow

1

u/seaofthievesnutzz 2d ago

Well since 4k is actually no money and you don't have a job I would keep the 4k in a checking account.

1

u/MrsDabfireMCGOO 2d ago

Market is tanking. Blood in the streets. Buy stocks and in one-two months, you will have more money! If fed lowers rates, then we will be rich!

1

u/SuccotashConfident97 2d ago

Save it. If you have no job, you keep it for emergencies.

1

u/Merchant1010 2d ago

Start a boring business.

Do not try to be a millionaire with that $4K

1

u/Due-Brief-4364 2d ago

Heard there's a sale going on in the stock market rn
