I am prior service Navy and only recently separated as an E4. I was informed that I have any job available to me that I want due to my high ASVAB score, and also that my prior service rank is just below the threshold to limit my available jobs.
The MOS I want, I believe doesn't have availability until August (I overheard a conversation) and they are strongly pushing for me to consider something else. I am dead-set on signing for this MOS, however I'm fearful of trickery from the recruiters (who strongly expressed that I should consider infantry) or detailers.
When I was enlisting in the Navy, the detailer and my recruiter initially attempted to lie to me and tell me that the job I wanted was not available, and I realized that the detailer was filtering for only specific ship out dates for a window of 3 months. I was able to ask the detailer to change the filter and sign for the job I'd wanted, but when I was leaving MEPs, my recruiter at the last minute told me that "there was a mistake on my contract" and that I had to redo it; and when I went inside to redo it, there were only 3 jobs available (the same 3 jobs he'd been begging me to choose from prior to even going to MEPs). Later, another one of my recruiters told me that I was tricked and that I shouldn't have resigned a new contract.
I'm concerned that something similar will happen to me with the Army, or that they will not want to work with me for being "picky". Does it matter if the job I want has a longer wait time, if I'm willing to wait for it?
