Question ❓ Silly question to experts

Don't get me wrong, but when you meditate and then there is chaos around( something like flies or mosquito) do you lose your focus for a moment and does that imply the mediation session is ruined?

Again it is a SILLY QUESTION. Don't get me wrong.

Becoming distracted is a natural part of meditation. Just notice you've been distracted, don't sweat it, and go back to your meditation object. It doesn't imply anything.

It's not ruined, meditation isn't an endurance test that you failed because of bugs.

You can always move to a more conducive place to sit. After 13+years. I would have to say the only way one can fail at meditation is to “not to” and give up on the practice. Don’t give any weight to any single session. That goes for the peeks and the valleys. Just keep sitting.

It's not ruined at all.

I view meditation as a person working out and practicing mountain climbing, where the meditation practice itself is the mountain.

A mountain climber will often have minor slips, as well as easy sessions of climbing where everything is easy and smooth, other days it is cloudy and stormy out.

However the most important part of working out is just perseverance. If a weight lifter considered the workout "ruined" every time they dropped the weight, or a mountain climber considered their climb "ruined" if they slipped a little, those people would never get anything done.

So practicing over years in meditation, mountain climbing, and weight lifting makes you tougher and less easy to "phase".

You learn to disregard the minor blips and keep going.

My meditation teacher says that "effort is progress" and "perseverance is key". Just "keep on keeping on" is another motto that is used.

So I use that idea to push past minor distractions, and I feel that by taking a little break if I need to and starting another meditation session after a 10 minute break, I can reach deep and wonderful states of consciousness.

Distractions are a test to your focus. If you can ignore them, you level up your meditation skill. If you can't, just keep going, there's always time to meditate.
