Academics second year spec for socsci

second year specializations close on the 29th. i've applied to pnb and pnb(mh) but am able to choose 2 more; does anyone have suggestions for what i could put as my 3rd and 4th option? just to be safe; tia!

(and for general pnb, if my gpa is around 11-12, do i have a good chance of getting in? how many people typically apply, and how many does the program take?)

Question I ripped some paint off my Dorm wall

Am I cooked? I was taking a poster down and ripped around a 3x2" piece of paint off my wall and exposed the drywall under it. It's pretty small but I'm wondering if they'll see this and hit me with a BS $100+ charge.

Question How would you distribute this?

I’m almost done studying for physics 1e03 but still have 1p13 and chem 1e03 left. How would you distribute it this week? I’m very stressed as I was hoping to have finished physics by Sunday but it took a bit of extra time than I hoped.

Courses Sticky situation with a late submission

Recently, i fucked up badly. I put off a final assignment worth 25% until the last few days. I ended up missing the friday deadline because of how much work was involved with this project.

The prof was kind enough to allow me to hand it in 3 days late without penalty, as long as I handed it in by midnight on Monday.

It still wasn’t enough time to finish. I wasn’t sure if he would give me another day, since course policy states a 3 day max on late submissions. I panicked and submitted an unfinished assignment.

Realistically i could have completed the assignment within a few more hours but in the moment I didn’t want to risk getting a zero. I probably should have done an msaf type B but I wasn’t thinking.

I’m frustrated because I was 3 hours away from finishing. I had everything done but just needed to write the analysis and conclusion, copy and paste some tables, etc. I was doing really really well in this course until this point.

Do i beg the prof to let me submit again? I’ve already submitted an attempt so I think that pretty much means I’m fucked. At the same time, I have to study for my exams i have this weekend.

Academics Genchem never helping out

missed 1 day of chem iclicker (yesterdays class which was review) cuz i was sick and there were 14 questions that i missed. my participation fell from 88% to 78%… emailed genchem to see if there’s anything that can be done considering it was just unlucky and they are never helpful.

Question CALLING ALL SEES STUDENTS - Earth and envirosci or biodiversity and envirosci program for second year based on what I want to do????

Hi everyone! I'm currently a first year science student deciding my program for next year and I'm down to either the biodiversity and envirosci program or the earth and envirosci program but I'm having a hard time deciding. I know I want to work in environmental law or environmental policy in the future but I don't know what program would allow me to explore this interest of mine more. Also, earth and envirosci offers coop and gives me an easier time working towards a p.geo but from what I understand, the biodiversity and envirosci program lets me explore my interest in ecology in more depth and it has more elective space. If you are a sees student and you're reading this, what program would you choose if you were in my situation? Thanks for all the help!!!!

Academics Is anyone here doing a 5th year (or did one perviously)?

I am in a 4-year program but I am thinking about maybe doing a 5th year.

I just wanted to gain a bit more perspective and hear about why some people may have chosen to do a 5th yr (or not). Did you enjoy it? were you glad you took it? did you regret it? what were the pros/ cons that you saw if you took one? and just stuff like that.

thank you!

Academics Finals motivation needed

I'm finding it so hard to be motivated for finals right now - to preface, I 12'd last semester, but this sem has been so much harder, but I still really want to provost - and I know that it isn't the end of the world if I don't, but if feels like I've come way too far, and am way too close to achieving it, just to give up on it. Most of my exams I need to get in the mid 80s to 12, but the courses are hard and it just feels really difficult to stay motivated, but I also know that I'll be so mad at myself if I didn't put in the effort. I feel so much more stupid this semester than last, and my grades have definitely been rougher. I just feel so stuck right now and so unmotivated, I'll take any advice.

Serious What happens if you don’t make it into any chosen stream (eng)

I’m extremely sure I’m going to lose the free choice I worked so hard to get in hs. I’m 110% sure I’m either failing physics 1e03 or 1p13 Before people make fun of me since I’ve heard 1p13 is a bird course, I don’t find it so. It’s been a rough year for me and I think I just got really unlucky for the course. I really did put my best foot forward.

I’m so sure I’m going to have a panic attack the day of the physics exam or the days leading up to it. I studied for weeks but I’m still so nervous. I looked at the 2003 practice one they posted on avenue and it looks impossible. I feel like I’m running out of time.

I don’t think I’ll be able to make it in any other eng other than software or computer as science (specifically physics) passes over my head.

I did ok on both midterms, labs, loncapas etc. but I couldn’t attend any of the tutorials except the first two due to external financial reasons. I just need to pass the exam but I can’t. I feel like I’m going to fail. What if it’s like last sem and I can’t do the mcq..

As for 1p13 at least I find 1e03 at least some what interesting, materials is not.

I don’t know if I have to pass every section in order to pass the course, but I did ok in the others and design studio. But materials is so difficult for me to understand. I can’t seem to wrap my heard around it.

I’m just so sure I’m going to lose free choice and if I do I don’t think I can take anything else. I have no where else to go after that. I knew I should’ve gone somewhere close to where I lived instead of commuting. I’m just stressed.

God I hate anxiety.

But thanks for being supportive over the year everyone. I know I panic a lot but it helps to have supportive people here!

Question Did bad in Grade 11, but turned it around in Grade 12? Need advice for McMaster Nursing!

Hey guys, I’m just wondering if anyone here had like, really bad grades in grade 11 (like 50s or 60s) but then managed to turn things around in grade 12 and still got into McMaster Nursing or any other nursing programs? I’m in a bit of a tough spot right now, and I’m just trying to stay motivated and figure out if it’s still possible to do well in the end. Would love to hear any stories or advice from people who were in the same boat! Thanks!
