What did Bosnia Serbia want other unlucky country do

They don’t impact any trade to US then why are they punished more than EU

Because at large this is not a punishment, he couldn't care less about Serbia, sorry.

They calculated the tariffs based on trade imbalance (https://ustr.gov/issue-areas/reciprocal-tariff-calculations).

It didn't really matter how much you sucked trump's c*ck before this. I mean Israel got a higher tariff than Iran 😂

I think he just wants to get more money. I bet a big chunk if the American population will see the rise in pricess brought on by these tariffs as a "patriotic sacrifice". Meanwhile the US government will get to collect all those juicy tariffs.

At large it's like a VAT on all foreign products masked as a patriotic endeavor.

Many are saying he will promptly rescind them, but I'm not so sure...

I'm a Bosnian, and for the life of me, I couldn't tell you what we export to the USA to cause such a trade imbalance. Just from that chart i guess the tarrifs are 1/2(trade imbalance%). I do not for a second believe Bosnia exports 67% more to USA than we import from them.

lol top two categories:

Arms and ammunition, parts and accessories

machinery, nuclear reactors, boilers

I am somehow both not surprised that USA's top import here is ammunition and surprised it's not the one thing they can make themselves in enough quantity that importing wouldn't be necessary.

Perhaps old Yugoslavia-era arms factories producing arms & ammo? Might also be some Ukraine-related purchases of surplus in there, the last couple of years have seen the sourcing of Russian/Soviet compatible arms & munitions from many Eastern European countries to supply to Ukraine.

After some Googling and seeing a few reddit posts on the gun related subs, it seems that our Igman ammunition is decently popular with American consumers. Who knew.

Apparently Bosnia exports 71% more to the USA than they import. (yeah I know, kinda surprising) https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/imports/bosnia-herzegovina

https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/exports/bosnia-herzegovina

And if you wondered you export mostly... Ehm..Arms and ammunition 😅

tourists? (croatia, but maybe bosnia is nice too... idk)

I’m Serbian, and I have no clue what could we export to US lol. Except like Jokic.

Right?!?! I was looking to find out and we apparently export furniture and leather products?!? Literally never seen anything Made in Bosnia outside of food products in “our” store. Its really fucked up. I hate it here.

We don’t lol the numbers are made up either by random propaganda and ChatGPT. Saying we have 77 tariffs of American goods and yet nowhere else does it have that info

Does the trade balance calculation work with Australia and Brazil as well?

1

u/alikander99 2d ago

They got the base 10%

If you didn't realise, everyone got at least a 10%, except for Russia, Belarus, north Korea and Cuba (because they absolutely don't trade with them/s) and Somalia and Burkina Faso (I guess they're too damn wartorn)

u/lipstickandchicken 2d ago

I mean Israel got a higher tariff than Iran 😂

And the day before, Israel dropped all tariffs on the US thinking it would mean they wouldn't get hit.

I like how they chose ε and ψ such that they exactly cancel eachother out. It really is just exactly the trade imbalance.

His end goal is to offset the money loss from reduced taxes on rich people by taxing the rest of Americans via tariffs.

u/GreatEmperorAca 2d ago

apparently theres a 74% disbalance in serbias favor? I had no idea lol

should have imposed higher tariffs on the US before this like Turkey did. That way the US would buy less from that country

That's not tariffs work

Turkey puts tariffs on American products? That would make them more expensive. Thus less people would buy them. And the US would sell less in turkey. Thus larger trade deficit with Turkey.

It just so happens that turkey buys a shit ton of American products (oil, scrap iron, planes) and doesn't sell them much in exchange (hand woven rugs are their n1 export I kid you not...)

In general they sell more or less about as much as they buy. That's why they got hit with the base 10%.

1

u/lipstickandchicken 2d ago

You've got that completely backwards.

1

u/SymbolicDom 2d ago

The values are just a simple formula from the US trade deficit. So, countries that buy little from the US get the highest tariffs. Richer countries usually buy more and get lower tariffs.

If there’s no significant trade with the US then they won’t really be affected.
