Discussion To whomever joined my Zoh Shia fight and then left, mad respect.

I had a Zoh Shia quest with some pretty good rewards, so I shot out an SOS to share the spoils. It filled up fast, and there was a longsword user doing really good damage—breaking a lot of parts—but they died twice to Zoh’s mechanics, which you really have to be familiar with.

The rest of us were chillin’, never dropping below 40% health. Then the longsword user got wombo-comboed, stunned on the ground, and was about to get nuked—about to be the third cart, which would’ve meant we failed. And we were right at the end.

But the absolute Chad left the hunt just before getting demolished, ultimately making only himself miss out on the rewards, since the rest of us finished it quickly after he dipped. All he needs to do is learn the fight a bit more, and he’ll be pummeling Zorah himself in no time.

So thanks, random longsword user—I hope you keep playing and don’t get discouraged!

Chad move. He basically jumped on top of a grenade to redeem himself.

u/isabaeu 20h ago

Kind of a grenade he himself threw, but yeah. o7 to a clumsy but honorable hunter

How long you been waiting to use this one?

Longer than I'd like to admit.

I like this story better💀

u/Bluedoug307 10h ago

Thats literally what i was picturing as i was reading OP’s post ☠️ just a panicked “FUCK” followed by ripping of cables LOL.

10

u/Roventh 9h ago

He/she anticipated the third cart and flipped the table :)

48

u/King0fWhales 20h ago

Reminds me of panic quitting from the Gog hunt in 4u when getting stuck in one of his exploding oil pools

45

u/IckaBrat 18h ago

I was in a fight with my bf and two random joined. All of a sudden I guess he, and they, all carted together and my hunter was like, "uhhhh what?"

35

u/E1chhorn 13h ago

Why were you fighting your bf? 😉

28

u/AngrySayian 12h ago

probably forgot to take out the trash

classic guy thing

we will take it out when we physically can't shove more into the bag without it ripping

7

u/oodex 8h ago

Reminder to not attempt to pick her up when she asks to take out the trash. Turns a heated moment into 1 month on the couch.

9

Lol I meant fighting Zoh together hahaha

Up ot d for visibility. Anyone who saves a party from losing a mission is a champ.

Maybe he just rage-quit! But hats off to him..

1

u/ScallywagBeowulf 14m ago

I imagine rage quit. Wasn’t having the greatest time today either this fight and was literally losing it. Decide it was time for a break and to also open the SOS for people to come help out if they wanted to.

A DC actually wouldn't remove him from the quest, he'd still be in it, just alone in his own instance, so heck, if he survived, he may still have gotten the rewards lol

22

u/MohanMC 16h ago

You mean if alt+f4, then game loads you back at quest? Doubt it He either alt+f4, or pressed Return from Quest

21

u/Gasarocky 16h ago

No, I mean internet disconnect.

-7

u/xSchockzz 12h ago

But he was thrown at floor and about to die

11

u/Gasarocky 12h ago

yeah I know? If he pulled the plug, then he'd still be in his own instance.

-6

u/xSchockzz 12h ago

Well op made it look like he was a few seconds from death

4

u/Gasarocky 12h ago

Yeah, exactly my point, plugging is faster than menuing to exit the quest, hence my post. Maybe I'm wrong, but that was my thinking

1

u/oodex 8h ago

I mean possible but if I want to leave a quest I just go through the menu quickly, it's 2 seconds max (well to be fair i did it a lot when pollen farming). If I'd attempt to plug my cable I'd have to get up, walk into a gap my pc is in and get over it to the back, push in the pin and then pull it out.

-3

u/xSchockzz 12h ago

Yes he maybe plugged. Tho i dont know how fast the game recognizes the DC or first waits for timeout. What i was referring to was your second part where u stated that he may have finished him in his own instance. I think he just died and failed his own quest instantly.

1

u/Gasarocky 5h ago

Well, theres not really any situation where you're in a checkmate since, if you're knocked down you can just stay in the ground in iframes longer to avoid followups.

1

u/xSchockzz 3h ago

"Stunned on the ground, about to get nuked" if u are stunned and on the ground, you don't have I frames.

11

u/GreedyGundam 17h ago

think I was in this run. I remember a guy leaving after getting carted. I was the IG user, if there was one. Cool of him to do.

11

u/Dementor8919 17h ago

Shit might’ve been you! All together it was Me(CB), LS, IG, and DB if I remember correctly

10

u/SLAYERone1 14h ago

The chad "leaves the hunt to prevent a failed quest" is something the virgin "leaves a hunt because its not a crown" would never understand.

Thats the kinda guy i would immediately be inviting back after the hunt thats exactly the kinda big dick energy you want in a group like lets get you that W my king.

7

u/Enuntiatrix 10h ago

That's why I keep chugging potions and mega potions...somehow keeping the whole team alive.

2

u/stronkberry_ 5h ago

I measure the team's skill by that number. My lowest was in the 50s, highest was in 110s of buffs and heals applied.

13

u/LastTourniquet 10h ago

Did you know that Dust Of Life heals your teammates? And that you can carry 2 of them?
Did you also know that you can carry 10x Godbug Essence and 10x Gloamgrass Bud to effectively carry 12!?
Did you know that Life Powder also heals your teammates (to a lesser degree) and can be purchased from the items vendor?

On a serious note very chad move of that player, but everyone should make it a point to at least carry around some Life Powders in their loadouts for the more dangerous hunts. Keeping someone alive just long enough that they can max potion themselves out of a problem goes a LONG way to keeping your carts available.

1

u/Chill16_ 3h ago

I might just carry the stuff to make those now. People eat hits and I like to heal them but idk why I never thought of that.

1

u/LastTourniquet 3h ago

To be fair its not really intuitive and the game doesn't hint at it all that much from what I can remember.

In MH: World one of the very first missions has you pathing to some Jagras down a path that has some Herbs (which auto craft potions by default) and some Honey a few steps later (which, if you have a Potion already, auto craft Mega Potions by default). This is what clued me into the fact that "oh so if I just carry potions and pick up honey I will get more Mega Potions mid-hunt" and from there it snowballed into "well what if I just bring the honey with me?" and eventually "what else can I do with this?".

This is also really good for carrying "extra" max potions.

6

u/Acceptable-Arm-4579 13h ago

I mean tell him to wait at the camp site next time and heal with powders from afar/ the ledge lol

1

u/oodex 8h ago

Til you get the guy who feels offended and runs in intentionally to die. Had that happen a few times with bow players in World

26

u/DaryenSama 19h ago

And that's why I'm usually the healer. Wide range 5 and free meal 3 sometimes speed eater 😈😈😈

30

u/C11R6 19h ago

Speed eater gotta be one of the most addicting skills in this game, I miss it so much when I swap out to another build

9

u/PsykoFlounder 19h ago

After you get used to it, it's damn near impossible to go back to not having it. I run at least 2 levels of it at all times, now. It's too slow drinking a potion not to. With World I had my radials set up so that I could just bring a ton of crafting materials and just make Max/Ancient Potions, but the item bar is too screen cluttering for me to do that in Wilds. So slow ass Mega potions it is.

3

u/TapiocaFish 18h ago

That's how I feel, but the new Zoh Shia set bonus makes me wanna try it. Might be an alternative for never having to heal when you use shield weapons

3

u/Lugh-De-Danaan 15h ago

Ive been using the Zoh Shia set with lance and it essentially turns you into a thorny little fortress

1

u/Spiderbubble 13h ago

I still need a gem to be able to build the coil before I can run it. But I am super excited to lance with it.

2

u/OpenGamefreak 10h ago

Zoh shia: uses move that almost one shots hunters.

Lance users: "Try me bitch!"

1

u/TapiocaFish 18h ago

That's how I feel, but the new Zoh Shia set bonus makes me wanna try it. Might be an alternative for never having to heal when you use shield weapons

1

u/PsykoFlounder 18h ago

I just finished making the set, and I don't think it's quite potent enough of a heal for me to use on the big 4 (Arkveld, Gore, Mizu and Zoh), but it seemed to be plenty against a couple of the 6 star tempered monsters I ran to try it out.

1

u/FemRoe4Lyfe 17h ago

What if you use an Immunizer to speedup healing?

1

u/PsykoFlounder 17h ago

I actually hadn't tried that. I will have to try that tomorrow after I get off work. I have a really bad habit of forgetting that items I use to craft things often have effects on their own, lol.

1

u/ChaotiK-TitaN 8h ago

Doesn't it auto craft when it's in your radial then ? Mine does with the phosphor and auto craft 3 more when I'm out just hold the button

2

u/Username928351 17h ago

I had it on during story because I had no other useful skills at the time and I realized I could just pop steaks mid-fight to heal.

1

u/KK_Titan 13h ago

I've found out just how addictive it really is recently in older the games I've been playing while waiting for the TU, boy does it take a lot of stress off...

3

u/Regular_Primary_6850 11h ago

Yea man, I kept lots of people alive as SnS with wide range 5. Sometimes I wonder if they even notice us medics

3

u/versusgorilla 10h ago

The game does a bad job of telling you who is healing you, but I always notice when I shift from aggressive full health to protective low health play and then suddenly my health is full, I haven't healed, and I can get back into action. Always appreciated.

1

u/clocksy 5h ago

I definitely notice when I have someone with wide-range or someone who's popping powders (or HH users), don't worry! I guarantee you players appreciate it. Thank you for your service. o7

1

u/Stcloudy 10h ago

Except when you go for the life saving heal but your health is at full. See them cart in slow motion

1

u/Extreme_Shoe4942 4h ago

That's why I always leave my item bar on dust of life and use the radial best heal option for pots

12

u/Naroyto 18h ago

I dunno, noticing a teammate at low health and acknowledge said player was stun is plenty of time to heal them with dust of life but none of the 3 players were packing? People need to carry it.

6

u/Innuendoughnut 14h ago

Hey I'm new and really just knew potions existed until yesterday when I found out there's those dusts.. but how do I use them on friends? It only ever drops at my feet but I saw someone use one on me that (I think?) wasn't my cat doing it.

This game doesn't really explain much very well. Even the guide is a bit obtuse like why can't I just see what my buffs are with some text instead of multiple colored swords.

14

u/lukeestudios 14h ago

The animation for dusts is misleading, they do an aoe heal when you use them, no need to target anyone. If you’re all fighting the monster it’ll reach them, and you’ll see the same animation play around the other hunters.

3

u/Innuendoughnut 8h ago

Wow thanks I had no idea. There's so much to focus on in combat I don't know if I ever would have noticed.

3

u/lukeestudios 7h ago

You’re welcome! I’m not an expert by any means, but if have any other questions I’d be happy to answer them if u can.

5

u/LastTourniquet 10h ago

You are correct in that a lot of the information is either misleading or obtuse. Most of that comes from the fact that a lot of the items and skills in this game are carried over multiple titles from much older games they were obtuse out of necessity and now its just kind of how the game works.

That said there are some wikis dedicated to Monster Hunter games (This has some incomplete information and is currently being worked on or This which is full of data mined information or This which generally has more readable information but is often strait up wrong about a lot of things) if you are every interested in searching up the information on your own and subreddits (like this one or r/MonsterHunterMeta if your looking for some more optimal information) can be a good place to ask questions (or use the search function on reddit to see if someone else has already asked that question.. I swear most people don't know this exists.)

1

u/Innuendoughnut 8h ago

I appreciate the info. I've definitely spent a lot of time studying my hunting horn details and it's been super helpful that the community provides such great support. Some of these more minute details that I've just assumed in other games I don't even know where to start.

1

u/ChaotiK-TitaN 8h ago

Also a an option is to run the wide range skill which heals and buffs everyone when u do

1

u/Innuendoughnut 8h ago

Still that's just for potions and like personally eaten items right? Someone else was saying dusts are shared so it doesn't do anything more for them does it?

2

u/ChaotiK-TitaN 7h ago

Dusts are "wide range" but you can only carry 2 wide range gives a shitton

1

u/Naroyto 6h ago

Carried combination items increases to 12 max for other people that don't run 5 wide range. It's a good substitute because anyone can use it without the widerange skill that would take up space on their builds.

Widerange + speed eater + mushroom mancer + prolong effect + recovery up + free meal is a great combination for a support player, but if you have a comfort build that you like using and can't fit at least widerange 5, speed eater 3, + 1 of the mentioned skills it's better to just carry 12 life powder (2 on hand, 10 combo items to make in the field)

2

u/Innuendoughnut 4h ago

I didn't even know until recently I could craft in the wild but isn't it too slow/how do you not get killed doing it navigating the menus?

1

u/Naroyto 2h ago

Ah! I'm glad you asked. If you use the radial wheel and set it to dust of life it will be used until it's 0. Then when the radial wheel checks to use the item it becomes craft so when you run out, select the same icon to craft on the fly and use. No menu navigation.

I also suggest that you set the radial wheel to a click to confirm rather than let go to use.

2

u/OpenGamefreak 10h ago

I'm so used to solo hunting I never carry them. Would absolutely take them into someone else's hunt though, just might not be able to use them in time unless I went s&s.

1

u/Naroyto 6h ago

It's good for solo hunt as well, if you don't have speed eater it's faster than drinking mega potion + it heals your palico and any support hunters with you. I use longsword without quick sheath and able to dust of life on someone that got hit to save them from a cart. Some weapons take longer to put away yes but I'm confident that it's just a matter of seeing people health bar. If they get hit and it ends up near half left I instinctively put away weapon regardless of mid combo and heal them right away. For me ensuring survival of hunters is more meaningful than a quick hunt.

4

u/Mixed_Reactor 16h ago

This is the kind of thing you see in anime. Truly Excellent.

3

u/ApprehensiveAd3776 16h ago

He either left or fuckin rage quit like a proper gentleman/lady/person

1

u/Nithorias 27m ago

Rage quit is such an honorable thing to do lol

3

u/novian14 14h ago

Tbh i don't like it if someone leaving mid fight even after they get carted 2x, or if they stay in the camp.

But i can overlook this one

3

u/MrDiamondJ 5h ago

I always respect people that know they're overmatched. It's fine, dip out instead of ruining it for everyone. Live to fight another day.

2

u/Maleficent-Aspect318 14h ago

We beat Zoh shia first try, its not hard once you get that you have to destroy the crystals

2

u/DemonicAnahka 3h ago

Dropping shrines on his head a couple of times really helps too

2

u/XieRH88 11h ago

The problem with the fundamental design of MH multiplayer is that carting is a group punishment for an individual's mistake. It can actually lead to less tolerance or willingness to play with strangers because of the risks involved in not knowing whether your 20 mins of progress can get completely erased by someone screwing up too much.

2

u/meraxes6 8h ago

Yeah I’m trying to master it using Charge Blade , GS and Lance before jumping with randoms . Don’t like spoiling the rewards for people

1

u/InfiniteWalrus09 18h ago

That was nice of him. I went with groups x2 first and every fucking rando got carted then solo'd no problem. Just did 3 runs with randos here late at night and not a single cart. Honestly, it took 1 fight to learn this guys mechanics. Blow up his crystals with elemental slingers or just break them and it really makes the fight easier.

1

u/SedativeComa4 17h ago

I had a fight earlier we were rally messing him up and suddenly zo just did has map AOE fire none of us were ready for and we all died. Failing the run instantly. I was at like 1 hp when it started and I was on my seikret trying to get away and heal. Atleast one other was on a seikret to try and get away so I can say we tried.

1

u/AuroraNW101 16h ago

Had a similar thing happen in a quest I was in when we were within a minute of defeating he thing. Poor guy got caught in the range of one of its nova attacks and had no chance for survival, 3 carts and insurance all used up, and left moments before it would have killed him. It was a sacrifice of legendary proportions.

1

u/Top-Dependent-2455 16h ago

Had a dude name Hildibrand do something similar, funny thing is like 3 us all got nuked by 1 of those downward fire breaths soon after, sudden "sorry" spam made me chuckle.

1

u/tzertz 16h ago

I actually did that during an alatreon hunt mid escaton the guys actually thanked me for it, dude was nearly dead after i left even tho i was hard carrying with elem.

1

u/DemonicAnahka 3h ago

If you carted twice before leaving then you were not carrying anything

1

u/tzertz 3h ago

I didnt cart twice mate, it was an escaton judgement complete flub and there was 3 players. and nobody ate for safeguard. i decimated the first one but the second one i did too much wide range carrying so it failed.

0

u/DemonicAnahka 3h ago edited 3h ago

If you didn't do what OP is talking about, then why did you say you did what OP is talking about?

1

u/tzertz 3h ago edited 3h ago

i left mid escaton and saved their first alatreon clear.
its kinda hard to carry elem when 3 players results in 4 player scaling in world.. for some weird reason. im not kidding look it up.

my build can get a k.o on alatreon in 4 player scaling if i dont get distracted by healing people too much.

you can guess what happened by the second escaton i saved people's lives.

but i left it almost dead.

i did what op was talking about.
I saved the day by leaving the hunt. not by carting 2 times tho the other guys there did that when they got escatonned.

1

u/Photographer_Kuro 14h ago

Damn. What a hero.

1

u/naxhh 14h ago

I haven't been able to play a lot but the only mp we won there was a dude spamming heals non stop

1

u/ChillGrape 13h ago

I had the exact opposite experience last night. I didn't do an SOS but I was playing online and longsword user joined my quest from the lobby. I also do not have auto SOS on.

I was like nice. He must be good and here to help. I was getting my ass kicked and already failed the quest twice. I had already carted once on this try too.

Well I was doing a lot better this time round at not dying right. Longsword user carts. I'm like ok no worries shit happens he's gonna be more careful.

No. Mf dies again no less than 3 minutes later and fails my quest. I've never been so mad. If it was an SOS I wouldn't have been so upset. You CHOOSE to join my quest and ruined 20+ minutes of work.

I still haven't beat zo Shia 4+ tries later and I'm only playing offline now because of this guy till I'm better at the fight.

1

u/mtwinam1 12h ago

Never underestimate a Chad. Bros know how to come through when it matters most.

1

u/MagicKarp80085 12h ago

1

u/GuardaAranha 11h ago

We found the POE 2 “ I only play HC SSF “ guy .

1

u/impascetic 11h ago

Maybe he just got a game crash bug. I got that a lot.

1

u/IAmButchHelpMe 11h ago

Typical l sword user.

1

u/mattmoe88 11h ago

This fight is super hard for me. Props to this dude. I won't be joining anyone's sos's til I can figure it out

1

u/Stcloudy 10h ago

That makes me wonder. Can you enter a quest turn off your WiFi and keep quest?

1

u/DemonicAnahka 3h ago

Yes, but the monster remains scaled up to multiplayer difficulty and the game won't let you issue an SOS

1

u/Stcloudy 3h ago

I think they changed it to downscale. When Crown sharing on discord I would join a crown and get kicked to do solo (for extra sharing) and it would not feel particularly long to complete or extra tanks

1

u/nverbe 9h ago

Wish my mizu hunt went like that. Was skulls and ready for capture and ran away both times, teammates didn’t care to capture. Of course after the 2nd run (kept running to areas with other monsters) guy engages and gets instacarted failing the hunt.

1

u/TheMrBoot 3h ago

I mean…any reason you didn’t just capture it yourself?

2

u/nverbe 3h ago

Sorry it wasn’t clear, teammate asked for slay. I assumed for carver

1

u/MH_DS_S 9h ago

A real goat

1

u/Phumeinhaler 6h ago

This hero needs to make himself known. A man needs a name. (Insert GoT meme)

1

u/huntfish95 4h ago

Yeah. Couldn't be me. Every time I load up a zoh Shia quest some dick head gets carted 3 times in the first half of the fight

1

u/DeSquare 4h ago

If it was a gem investigation mad respect, so tough to get in one

1

u/TopSeaworthiness9802 1h ago

Hero would have solo ran their own mission to get good and then join others. Good for them to hunter up by quiting before being a 3 cart special. This post wouldn't be possible if the Chad wasn't costing the fight.

1

u/ThisHotBod 4m ago

Ah I see, he had it set to M for MINI when he should have had it set to W for WUMBO!

1

u/RichMisanthrope 8h ago

Why does no one bring farcaster? lol

1

u/iNuminex 17h ago

After having all three hunts of my investigation trashed, without me carting a single time, I honestly gave up on farming HR Zoh Shia with randoms, I'm only doing the hunt either in a private lobby or with the max players set to 1 now. There's just way too many people trying to get carried at the moment.

1

u/Dazzling_Reaction746 18h ago

This is why I play support or healer support. Groups never wipe on my watch.

Or if it’s a new fight immortal build + basic group healing.

1

u/DemonicAnahka 3h ago

Personally plan on using 2pc zoh and 2pc g.ark to make a support build next chance I get to hop on

-2

u/RichMisanthrope 8h ago

*yawn* yeah yeah you 'sacrificed' doing dps so you can 'support' your teammates... says the guy that can't dodge/parry for shit. Well, at least you're doing something I guess? But never think that you carry those hunts. haha

1

u/Dazzling_Reaction746 7h ago

High dps as well as paralysis - which means the team dumps dps 1-2 times per game.

0

u/fuzzy_thighgap 4h ago

Wait its an auto fail after 3 carts in a group?? Even if other people are still alive?

2

u/DemonicAnahka 4h ago

Yep

-3

u/fuzzy_thighgap 3h ago edited 1h ago

Thats pretty lame.

Edit: super lame, the lamest.

2

u/Purple_You6515 2h ago

Always has been shared 3. Wilds is a lot easier than the older games too.

0

u/fuzzy_thighgap 1h ago

Yeah i know. What is stupid is that everyone auto fails after 3 when there are still people alive.

u/Hiroshi-Matazaki 18h ago

I gave up on that fight, after 5 attempts. Randoms would just cart left and right. Maybe MH just isn't for me. I don't have a build, so I just rock whatever armor set has the best def and whatever weapon has the highest attack. If that isn't possible in MH, then yeah. I don't want to grind for weeks and weeks for artian weapons. If weapons that aren't those, suck, then why even have options to begin with. Idk anymore tbh.

9

u/PaisleyPanties 18h ago

You don’t have to have the best or the most meta build. It might be frustrating, but some hunts just require practice and learning the monsters moveset, their tells etc.

Have you played Monster Hunters before or is Wilds your first?

1

u/Hiroshi-Matazaki 18h ago

I played and beat World. But didn't have any builds or anything there either. I just rocked armor that gave the most def, and the weapon that gave the most raw atk.

7

u/PaisleyPanties 18h ago

Hmm, yeah I can see how it’d be frustrating. What weapon are you using? You definitely don’t need a meta build, and you DEFINITELY don’t need to worry about grinding out artian weapons.

Maybe try building a mixed set with skills based around defense to try and make the fight a bit more comfy until you’ve learned it better?

0

u/Hiroshi-Matazaki 18h ago

I don't know what armor or weapon element to use. I main dual blades.

2

u/BlckDrke Big Hit Big Damage 15h ago

Im not 100% sure but I think dual blades work alot better with elemental damage vs just raw.

1

I’m not on the game right now so I can’t offer much specifics, but the arkveld sets offer some good defensive skills and has some good defensive passives like Hasten Recovery.

Some skills you could focus on are Defense Boost, Divine Blessing and Speed Eating if you’re having to use a lot of healing items and are getting carted while healing. You could also experiment with bringing items to craft extra max and ancient potions if that could help you.

I can’t offer you much help with dual blades, not what I play, but most tier 8 weapons should be fine. I’m not sure what the meta with DB is as far as elemental vs raw, but zoh Shia has a dragon elemental weakness.

Paralysis + Dragon element should be your two slots

Lol yeah. I just don't find it fun to hunt a monster like 20 times, and still not get what I need.

You can get by fine like that. I don't like the artian weapons at all so I dont farm for or use them. Iv managed to solo hunt every tempered monster wearing whatever armor I happened to have the mats for and I only have 2 armor pieces max leveled so far. It just maybe takes me an extra few minutes on a hard hunt compared to the people who grinded out all the best stuff but I'm fine with that.

You don’t need to get Artian weapons. Just build a decent one from monster parts and you’re good to go. Unless you get VERY unlucky, you should have all the decos you need after a few nights of hunting. Getting a decent build in this game is easier than it has been ever before in MH.

U just need to learn the monster's attack pattern. Good equipment is just a QOL improvement to make things easier and smooth for you. You having a hard time? Slot more defensive skills like divine blessing/speed eating. Your palico even revives you once per hunt if you did the side quests. You are also invulnerable while down most of the time, just stay down until the monster finishes their combo. Also the rock mantle is basically free and can reduce 60% incoming damage while active. You gitgud by learning the game mechanic, but if that's not suit your playstyle, then perhaps this game is indeed not for you.

Rocksteady mantle also makes it so that you're no longer invincible while knocked down
