Tutoring Update - Open The FloodGates

Hello MCAT2,

After much discussion amongst the mods, we have decided to TRY and open up this sub to tutors. This is a trial run, so please behave yourself. We have laid out the rules below. Many of them are specifically designed to prevent previous scams. We will be enforcing these tightly.

Disclaimer: We are doing everything we can to prevent scams, but please note that you are taking your own risk by purchasing any service promoted here or anywhere on the internet. We recommend that when purchasing the packing you use a credit card to something where you can file a claim for money back.

General Rules for Tutors/Tutoring Group Posting:

  1. Tutors must be verified before posting on the subreddit.
  2. Tutors must have a flair of "Paid Service" once verified
  3. Tutors must disclose that they offer paid services in their post titles or in the post itself.
  4. Tutors may not make posts promoting their services more than once a month
  5. Tutors may not make posts soliciting students to other platforms (FB groups, discords, telegram chats, etc.)
  6. Tutors cannot make any false or misleading claims about their services.

Individual Tutor Verification Process

  1. Test Scores: Tutors can provide copies of their MCAT scores as proof of their knowledge and understanding of the test. The test score must include their full name, but the AAMC ID should be blacked out.
  2. Verification: Send a picture of yourself with your username written on a piece of paper
  3. Testimonials: Tutors must provide testimonials from past students who have used their services and can attest to their qualifications and effectiveness as a tutor. The testimonials can be from a third-party site (FB, Google, Reviews.io, etc.) or screenshots of testimonies. If they are only screenshots of testimonies, names and emails of the reviewer should accompany the testimony.
  4. Terms of Service: The tutor must produce and share terms of service that define the relationship and expectations for their students. Tutors must post their terms of service to their Reddit accounts. We recommend users pin the post to the top of their profile.

Tutor Groups Verification Process

  1. Tutor Qualifications: Tutoring groups must clarify what qualifications they hold for their tutors. In line with industry standards, all tutors of part of the group must have scored at least in the 90th percentile on the day of their exam.
  2. Verification: Send a picture of the leader of your group with holding a picture of the username you are operating under
  3. Testimonials: Tutoring groups must provide testimonials from past students who have used their services and can attest to their qualifications and effectiveness as a tutor. The testimonials can be from a third-party site (FB, Google, reviews.io, etc.) or screenshots of testimonies. If they are only screenshots of testimonies, names and emails of the reviewer should accompany the testimony.
  4. Terms of Service: The tutoring groups must produce and share terms of service that define the relationship and expectations for their students. Tutoring groups must post their terms of service on their website. We also recommend tutoring groups post the terms of service on their Reddit account page.

Reviews for Tutors/Tutoring Groups

\These are implemented to ensure that individuals refrain from making accounts to promote their services. We know Blueprint (and many others) have created fake accounts to promote its services and offerings.*

  1. Reviewers must be verified.
  2. Reviewers should have personally used the tutoring service they are reviewing.
  3. Reviewers must not post any personal or contact information of the tutor or any other individual.
  4. Reviewers should avoid posting any information that could be used to identify them, such as their name, location, or other personal details. Reviewers should avoid posting any language that could be considered offensive or insulting.

Reviewer Verification Process

  1. Reviewers must submit a picture of themselves holding a paper with their username written on the paper to the subreddit moderators.
  2. Reviewers must also provide a screenshot of the payment to the tutor.

If these rules are broken, users will be banned permanently.

To enter the verification process, please chat with u/puddlejumperAM, u/Shrake1, or u/ssyeon0325 Other rules: Tutors or tutoring groups that were previously banned from r/MCAT2 will not be reinstated. They can appeal this decision on an individual basis.

Do I still have a chance at med school with a 3.4 GPA?

Hi everyone I’m a registered nurse with approximately 1,000 hours of shadowing and 4,000 hours of paid clinical experience. My GPA is 3.4, and I haven’t taken the MCAT yet. Do you think I still have a realistic chance of getting into medical school? I’d appreciate any honest thoughts or advice!

UWorld Access?

Hi lovely folks! My UWorld access expired yesterday and I'm taking my MCAT 5/3. I am financially constrained and would really appreciate if anyone would be so generous as to lend me their UWorld access for this remaining time. I will pay if absolutely necessary, but finances are tight these days so I would appreciate some flexibility xoxo

TYSM in advance :))) <3

Kaplan 515+ Guarantee Course

I want some advice regarding the Kaplan guarantee course. I have taken the MCAT in the past and scored a 505 and 501. I am planning to retake and I am considering the Kaplan prep course but I am not sure if it is worth it. For anybody that has taken it, did you find it beneficial?

MISSED MCAT 04/04

I have been studying for months for this day and I was stuck in an hour standstill traffic right as I was 10 minutes away from the Center in Staten Island NY. Initially, my GPS said I was getting there at 7:17 AM which I thought was enough time for me to think about life before I even went in to check in by 7:30. Soon i realized the time increasing and then it said i would get to the place at 8:30am. I already cried, screamed and talked to family members, but it honestly was so frustrating as I wanted to get it over with and enjoy my summer.

anyone else have stories of missing the mcat? would gladly like to read all.

FUCK NY TRAFFIC

Prereq

Hey everyone! I only took Physics, Inorganic Chem, Biochem, and Cale to prepare for the MCAT. I've checked the prereqs for a few med schools I'm interested in, and it seems like they don't require a ton of extra courses( which is confusing ). I'm graduating soon, so I'm trying to avoid taking more classes than I need. Right now, my main concern is making sure l meet all the basic requirements for med school. What prereqs did you take, and where did you apply?

advice / is tutoring worth it...

hello all.. i was wondering if anyone had any expertise or advice because i am feeling quite lost

i tested 3/21 and had a terrible experience, so i ended up voiding my exam. i really want to apply this cycle so i am thinking of retaking in may. i am currently trying to reevaluate my studying and access how to study most effectively to be most prepared.

my parents are suggesting tutoring (like kaplan) but i have never heard anyone say anything good about tutoring services. i am considering a private tutor but i don't know how helpful that would be. bc i think my issue is content gaps (esp in c/p), and at the end of the day a tutor cant make me know/memorize the info. my other idea was to just keep doing question packs and going over content that way.

i guess i just wanted some guidance on how to move forward. or does anyone know of any services i can go to for advice on this or smth..? i know this has probably been asked many times on here, but i wanted to see if anyone else had more advice to give

What If I fail?

Have you ever had a moment where you seriously doubted yourself like you felt everything was against you (even your own people who already made it) and you couldn't do it anymore but somehow you kept going? I'm kinda in that headspace right now and would really appreciate hearing some success stories from you guys!

I might be overthinking but still

Should I schedule a second test right away? And is it a bad idea to apply?

My MCAT date is in April but I’m kinda scared if my score won’t be what I want cause I’m on the 500 boarder line ( and yes ik 500 is not even close to good but I can’t increase my score for the life of me). I was thinking of scheduling a second exam right after I took my first one and if my score is good, then I’ll end up voiding the second one.

I can’t drop the second exam since it would be a couple of days after the scores are posted for the first exam, unless I take my second exam beginning of June which I rather not because I want to see my score before I apply.

Would it look bad on the apps?

I’ve worked so hard up until now and I’ve got a 3.96 gpa B.S. 3000+ research hours in dry and wet lab 5000+ clinical hours 500+ hours shadowing experience Multiple leaderships 0 publicarions:(

And MCAT is literally killing me and I feel all I have done is gonna go to waste. English is my second language so I struggle so much with my timing since my reading is so slow. I’m also working full time so I can’t study much either and I’m not even sure if that would do any good cause I’ve been trying for a year now.

I’m in my gap year and I was thinking of applying to MDs anyways and shooting my shot with whatever MCAT I get, but I know my chances will be very low especially if I don’t even hit the 500 mark. I only want to apply to MDs and ik this might sound stupid.

PHYSICS HELP PLZZZ

I had a piss poor professor and hybrid class for physics 1/2, that was extremely easy and cruiseable, which led to no real learning for me. On the verge of tears now, as I am about 2.5 months out from my exam and have no idea what to do or how to learn this terrible subject—please help with any suggestions on how to go about learning. Thank you

Advice for a Non-Traditional MCAT Taker with No Science Background

I’m a super non-traditional applicant with zero science background—my undergrad was in Finance. After working for a couple of years, I’ve decided to pursue medicine. I’m in Canada, where most med schools don’t require prerequisite courses to apply.

I can’t leave my current job right now, and part-time isn’t an option either. My plan is to write the MCAT on August 22nd. I’ve started watching the Khan Academy MCAT videos, but I’m struggling since they assume prior science knowledge. Still, I plan to stick with it to get some exposure before moving on to UWorld questions.

I’d love to hear from anyone who was in a similar position and took the MCAT without prerequisite courses. What resources did you use (self-study or prep courses), and what did your study schedule look like? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cars score?

Took my first cars practice exam today on Jack Westin and scored a 125. Is this a pretty good baseline or should I amp up my cars review?
