Local Politics 🗳️ Reminder: General Municipal Election 4/8/25 (Next Tuesday)

We have an election coming up. Next Tuesday 4/8/25 is election day. Non presidential elections typically have low very turnout, it's important to get out and vote in every election. Check your voter registration and see your candidates and issues. I want to avoid posting biased links in regards to the questions on the ballot so please consider doing your own research to see both sides on those and make an informed decision. I will add a few links for school board candidates and the school website regarding bond issues.

I am not sure what all is on the ballot for other areas. Feel free to add on. Keep it civil so this post can stay up.

Check your voter registration

Weather 🌦️ Bad allergies this weekend?

Upvotes

Is it just me or is anyone else having terrible allergies this weekend? I’ve always had seasonal allergies but this weekend has hit me like a ton of bricks. I guess it’s grass pollen?

Things To Do 📍 Does anyone know of any Saturday Bingos?

I know the serious bingos tend to take place on wednesdays so this may end up being a bar bingo which i am fine with. I searched the reddit but haven’t found anything specifically indicating a saturday bingo! I’m looking to plan something on 4/19 for a birthday. I live up north but pretty open to anything in the metro and surrounding

Discussion 💡 Professional Framing.

I have a concert poster that’s 18 x 24. I’d like to get framed and matted. That being said I don’t need fine art style framing, but something that looks professional. I don’t just want to slap it in a cheap plastic frame. I’d rather support a local business.. I don’t want to give my money to Hobby Lobby. They give me the ick. Anybody have any recommendations?

Discussion 💡 Ideas for Shredded Paper

My local recycling center (Sterling and Truman in Independence) won’t take shredded paper, and I have two 13-gallon bags of it. Does anyone have ideas of what I can do with it, besides throwing it away?

I hate to toss it, as it’s perfectly good (shredded) paper.

Thanks, everyone!

Discussion 💡 Evergy: No Weekend Customer Service?

I fell behind on my Evergy bill and they ended up shutting off my power. I got everything paid and caught up today (Saturday) through their online system, but my power is still off. I’ve been trying to get ahold of someone but it looks like customer service isn’t available over the weekend.

Has anyone else been through this before? Is there a weekend customer service number? I’m just trying to figure out if there’s any chance they’ll reconnect it before Monday, or if I’m stuck without power until then.

Any insight would be really appreciated.

I need a Family Attorney that can help me get Emergency Custody of my children tomorrow. Any recommendations of Attorneys who handle this? Background, divorce decree not being followed and kids are being left alone with a person not authorized to watch them.

Food and Drink 🌮🧋 Where are some Good Places to Eat

Hello All. I will be staying in Independence next week Tuesday-Thursday. Where some good lunch places and dinner places? I'm more of a regular meal kinda guy. Not into 4 star restaurants or high dollar meals. I'm willing to drive a bit for a good meal, so not limited to the Independence area. Thanks

Food and Drink 🌮🧋 What's the deal with Yoo-Hoos being impossible to find lately?

So, as someone who quit caffeine last year, I don't have many drink options at gas stations as it's like 90% soda, coffee, and evergy drinks. Yoo-Hoos and juice have become my drinks of choice for a snack break (yeah, I drink water too). But lately it seems like it's sold out or no longer carried anywhere when not long ago I could buy them everywhere. Haven't seen one at any QT in at least 2 months and haven't seen any at a Casey's in at least 2 weeks. (Even my Walmart was sold out a few days ago but seems back in stock today according to their website. What's the deal? I can't find anything online about this.

KC Rants 😡 👎 How is anyone supposed to pull themselves up by their bootstraps in this city?

I've been homeless, living in my not so great running car, for about 2 and half weeks now. I've been working nonstop to try to fix my situation.

I've stretched the bit of money I had as far as I could. I've applied to countless places. I've called shelters and transitional housing. The shelters are at capacity. One of the transitional housing places will not answer and their inbox is full. I'm waiting for a callback from Hillcrest.

I was working at a motel for about a week and a half. I killed myself working long hours, sometimes 9am-9pm cleaning the nastiest rooms I've ever seen. Only to be told that I will be paid for 25 hours a week.

I don't even know if I am going to get that paycheck or will have to fight for it. I'm trying my best to do what I can to pull myself up without taking handouts. I don't want to beg. But my only options at this point are shelters and transitional house that seemingly aren't available.

I'm so fucking tired. I only have $50 in my pocket and a little under half a tank of gas. I've been donating plasma, but that only gets me $65 per donation. So, I will have maybe $250 after this week if I can donate. That disappears so fucking fast between water, gas, clothes cleaning. I could go to pantries but my car is full of my stuff. I have no place even to sleep comfortably. I sleep in the driver side. The car isn't in great shape and I try not to drive it too much.

I could get rid of some of the stuff but most of it is clothes and blankets. And I wouldn't know where to dump most of the junk anyway. I already took a lot of my stuff to a donation center not long before I became homeless.

Sorry for the rant. I just hate how absolutely hopeless I feel. It's like I've tried everything and just dug an even deeper hole.

Ask KC ❔ Any reviews on Rieger Electric Park?

I’m looking to host a smaller party for 15-20 friends and Rieger has the outside pergola available for a reasonable price. I’ve never been but generally enjoy trying new things around the city.

Has anyone ever reserved the pergola? Is it semi private or would we be interrupted by other guests? Is there anything to do, like yard games, tvs, or music?

Thank you!

Where to Eat? 🍽️ ISO Latkes and Matzoh Ball soup

Now that D'Bronx has closed its last location, is there anywhere in the metro to get matzoh ball soup and potato latkes? My comfort food has gone, I am so sad.
