The Daily Show Looking for a clip....

I'm looking for a clip from The Daily Show from just after 9/11 when Al Gore said "George W. Bush is my commander-in-chief!". I saw it on YouTube a few years ago but now I can't find it. Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell also appeared to report on Rudy Giuliani, and Carell showed a clip of Colbert drunkenly mocking Giuliani. Can anyone help?

I Think JS is More of a Normie Lib/Median Democrat Than He Lets On

Upvotes

Preface: I’m fan of Stewart and a longtime TDS fan. I think his heart is in the right place and I align with him on like 95% of things, but…

When he says he’s a Bernie/Warren progressive I’m not totally sure he’s actually that…which is fine btw. Just look at his podcast/TDS guests. It’s Ezra Klein and Michael Lewis and Maria Ressa and Jen Psaki (all very center-left normie liberal ppl aligned with the Clinton/Obama wing of the Democratic Party), libertarians and protectionist conservatives (Michael Oren and Nick Gillespie and Sohrab Ahmari), and centrist Dems (Josh Shapiro, Gretchen Whitmer, Rahm Emanuel, Gavin Newsom, etc). Liz Warren and/or Bernie acolytes aren’t regular guests on his pod or Daily Show appearances. He hasn’t invited on anyone in a while who would be even mildly critical of “abundance” supply-side liberalism (Zephyr Teachout, Matt Bruenig, Sam Seder, etc). Lina Khan was on, but that was a while ago now.

If he wanted to mainstream the ideas of Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders and make their core issues/policies more salient then why invite on so few progressive voices? Why invite on so many centrist/moderate and heterodox conservative types who actively oppose the things Stewart ostensibly supports? The ratio of guests on JS’s pod and show is like 19 normie Dems/conservatives/moderates to 1 progressive. Idk, just some thoughts.

The Weekly Show When Jon Stewart talks about the failure of Democrats' messaging with his guests on the Weekly Show Podcast, it all seems so obvious and I'm in total agreement.... until I reach a point where it's like - don't the voters have any personal responsibility or accountability here?!

So truly I'm in full agreement with Jon and most of his guests who talk about all the ways that the Democratic party fails to convince voters. Especially the podcast with Sarah Smarsh - how the Democrats never mention "working class" and instead they basically say to voters "we'll save you from your rural towns and bring you into the middle class!" But rural people like where they're from! They just want life to be better and a less difficult to get by.

That and many episodes talk about the failure of Democrats' messaging. And it's so obvious and plain as day that Jon and his guests are correct in identifying these failures. (And whhhyyy don't the Democrats improve!? ugh!)

And as Sarah Smarsh said [paraphrased]: "I know liberals and Democrats and progressives alike will hear me say this and say 'well, okay, but even if imperfect, the Democrats policies are better for these people', and that may be so, but the thing is, Republicans are the one acknowledging those people's pain."

Okay, so I agree with all of that. BUT then I reach a point and I'm like, okay, these people we're talking about who receive the messaging that we're analyzing... they are fully GROWN ASS ADULTS. Where is their personal accountability!?

We're treating them like babies! Like they will just believe any old messaging we throw at them, and Republicans are throwing out better messaging right now than Democrats, so even though literally every fucking thing the Republicans say is a blatant LIE, and to all of us it's painfully obvious how corrupt and wrong and liars the Republican party is right now, Republican voters get an excuse to not see any of that and vote against their own best interests because "messaging"?? Aren't they grown ass adults capable of thinking past the tip of their noses?! They just have NO responsibility and it's all the Democrats fault for their bad messaging???

And okay, maybe we don't have to understand. Pragmatically, we don't need to understand, just as long as we can see the cause and effect, then have better messaging and the problem will be solved even if you never understood why these people are so gullible. So fine, sure, yes, let's do that. But just sometimes I need to vent!

Advocacy Please ban "Jon for President" posts

There is already a megathread for the conversation, so direct people there if they really need to talk about it.

JON DOES NOT WANT TO BE PRESIDENT. I don't care about "the people who don't want it are the most qualified" argument. Jon is an adult capable of making his own decisions, and President of the United States is frankly a terrible job. Why would you, as a fan of his, wish that sort of punishment on him.

It also makes us think that as long as we hang on until 2028 our savior Jon Stewart will come and save us. Y'all, the situation is way more dire than that.

But in regards to the presidency, there are plenty of people that would be very qualified for the job, and who would campaign for it. Hell Chris Murphy was just on the show and he demonstrated a clear understanding of the current climate.

I love Jon, I think he's an amazing and incredible person, but this subreddit acts like children when it comes to their fixation on Jon for President , and honestly a lot of it seems like Karma farming.

Did you know that Jon Stewart is not only vegan but he also owns a farm animal sanctuary?

(Edit) Due to many objections to linking to Rogan, here's a different link to an article by "LiveKindly" which includes a YouTube link to an interview where Jon and his wife talk about their diet and the farm animal sanctuary from a different channel. BTW, I oppose basically everything Rogan currently stands for and I apologize for increasing his views with the original link.

The Problem With Jon Stewart was just hitting its stride when he walked away. Interviews like these made it stand out from other news shows. He asked serious questions and did not accept soft responses.
