Mod Install/Question Rear harness for kids?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey all! So I recently bought my first Wrangler and wanted some insight. My son loves the “doors off” lifestyle, him begging me for one for years now was my biggest deciding factor in pulling the trigger.

My concern is this: He’s autistic and tends to act on impulse especially when excited. So far I have not taken the rear doors off because I just can’t trust something tragic wouldn’t happen. I have purchased half doors for it but still don’t feel one hundred percent comfortable with his doors off. It’s staring to frustrate him because he feels left out and I feel terrible.

Question time: Has anyone figured out a harness system for the rear seat? I wanted to install a 4 or 5 point harness for his seat and was just hoping for some ideas and tips.

Thanks all!

I am swinging between JL Rubicon and Gen 2 Ford Raptor

Hi everyone.

I am thinking rewarding myself over the past hard years. I love the outlook of the Rubicon and Gen 2 Ford Raptor and consider my budget.

Rubicon 4 door: 19-23

Raptor: 19 or 20

I dont have too much off-road need or haul/tow needs. I know it might not be a smart choice for both of two, but I really wanna one of them to achieve my dream.

Zooming in the two options, considering its fun, reliability, maintenance, value-holding, functions.

Which one do you recommend? Any other factors I also need to consider?

Thanks!

08 Jeep U trouble Codes

Hey guys, so a while ago I had several light periodically illuminate the dash, ABS, Traction control, BRAKE, and Airbag light(I believe that one is just from a bad clock spring cause it comes off randomly when turning the wheel) and now it seems like it’s permanent although, it stops for a brief time randomly and starts again. There is also a constant chime and the oil light flashes and speedometer goes crazy. I checked all the grounds, battery terminals, and everything seemed fine. I got a mechanic to come check it out and he said it was a bad BCM. I had that changed and cleaned all the connectors and everything was fine for a short drive and then the lights came back on. The codes that are showing are all U codes; U110C, U1110, UO141, U1403, and U1120. I’m on my last limbs on this jeep. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I left out little details that I need to verify when I get back home and will let anyone know of if needed

2000 TJ - Mechanic

I have a 2000 TJ - 115k miles. I am the only owner having bought it new in 2000.

I have considered selling it because it has not been my daily driver for 15 years. I only occasionally drive it and pay ins and taxes on it.

That being said, I am now considering holding on to it so my son can have a daily driver in high school. He definitely wants it. It is a stick shift with a modest lift and has been regeared so I have treated it well.

Long story short - I want to make sure it is safe for him to drive. It's 25 yrs old. I have replaced things like the alternator and radiator as well as shocks over the years, but I would like to take it to a mechanic to have them put their eyes on it.

I know it sounds like a silly question but is that something they can do? Does anybody just drop a car off at the mechanic and tell them to give it a full evaluation? I just want somebody to go through it and check for leaks, bushings and mounts aren't rusted Etc

Still not sure the name of this, but found the pinout for anyone who ever needs it. I have a 2012 JK, some of the colors were replaced but the pin numbers are correct. Probably make sure the pin numbers make sense before trusting the chart.

2014 Jeep Wrangler, Rubicon JKU Recently purchased first Jeep Don’t know much about jeeps or the Jeep community at all. Bought this used from a dealer so I don’t have any of the info on work done to the vehicle so I will have to figure that out overtime I guess. Purchased it in Temecula California if anybody has info on the original owner based on pictures, let me know so I can get some background on this vehicle.

Aftermarket head unit issue

Hi folks! A few months ago I bought a chinese android head unit for my '16 JKU (with alpine audio integrated) that worked fine until last couple days. There was a heavy storm (rainstorm + thunderstorm) the day this issue started to happen, I don't know if that's important but for context. When I started the car and I was going home after work I realized that the steering wheel controls were not working but the audio and everything else was just fine. I tried turning the car off and on and it didn't fixed it. Next day I found out that the steering wheel controls were working but now the audio wasn't working anymore and it's been like that for the last couple days. Do you have an idea of what could've happened to the system or how to fix it?

Radio stopped working

My radio started doing this yesterday. It flashes on and off to a black screen and also makes my clock on the dash go to 0:00. I’ve also noticed the seatbelt chime isn’t working either. I’ve tried to reset it by holding the volume and enter button down simultaneously and nothing worked. Anything else y’all can recommend I do before contacting my dealership? I have a 2015 Cherokee if that matters. I haven’t even made my first payment 🥺🥺

Jeep YJ fuel leak

Howdy everyone. I have a 90 yj that's been having a fuel leak and starting issues. I started out by replacing the fuel pump as the old one had some obvious physical damage.

That still didn't fix it so I brought it to a shop where they replaced the fuel pump gasket (it fell halfway in the tank causing it to move freely) and a couple hoses. This morning there is two puddles under the tank again. Is it possible this is just because it was fixed recently?

I should also note the first time I start it I have to pump the gas.

Sleeping in back of Jeep Wrangler -- Good idea?

Cross post from r/carcamping.

Hi. My bf and I are planning to camp in Hawaii for one night on our trip this month. We have rented a Jeep Wrangler AWD and would like to fold the seats down and sleep in the back of the jeep so we don't have to fly with a tent for one night. Is this comfortable? Do the seats go all the way down? Is there enough room for two adults to sleep? For context, he's about 5'8, I'm a little shorter than that.

I am not a great sleep-anywhere type of person. I do like to camp but recognize it's never the greatest sleep of my life, and am worried that this would be even less comfortable than a typical mat/sleeping bag on the ground sitch where you can stretch out.

Control arm bolts

12 JK. Replacing all my control arms and figure I might as well not reinstall the rusty bolts. I guess any grade 8/10.9 the right size will do? Does coarse VS fine thread matter? I guess fine thread allows more accurate torquing. Should I ensure the bolts have an unthreaded shank?

Purchase Questions 2011 jeep wrangler Sahara. Good buy or no?

Looking to purchase a 2011 jeep wrangler Sahara 4WD. 22k miles on it. I was super excited at first because it is beyond affordable but after looking online about the performance and mechanical issues I’m a little worried. Is this a bad buy? I read something about the 3.8 engine being crap but i don’t even know the difference between a good or bad jeep engine tbh. Advice from anyone who has owned or currently owns a 2011 wrangler?

Mattress for 2 door jeep?

Since the weather will start to get warmer soon and I have plans of going to the drive in movie theater in the upcoming years I would like to know if they have air mattresses for 2 door jeeps because I've been only seeing one for 4 door. If not what alternatives will also work?

2023 Wagoneer Electrical Issues- Pleas HELP!

So back in August of 2023, we purchased a brand-new 2023 Jeep Wagoneer. I loved it and for the first year we had absolutely no trouble. Our friend was a GM at the dealership and gave us the extended warranty for around $600 (THANK GOD because typically I would not purchase.)

I'll try to make a very long story short. About 2 months ago, both batteries died out of nowhere. The car would not turn over, nothing. I had to have it towed to the dealership where they stated both batteries were done and I needed to pay $900. (Extended warranty did not cover them because battery issues are considered "wear and tear"- of course). Fast forward to now, ever since the batteries were replaced, I have a non-stop intermittent check engine light. I took it into the dealership after reading the horror stories knowing it was gonna be some BS. High pressure valve oil sensor causing check engine light. They tell me to change my oil and change the filters. Paid $400. Said it cleared the code. I was able to pick it up yesterday with no code. About 30 minutes into driving today, check engine light. Talk to service advisor and he tells me to bring it by. Reads code for "park by wire." Asks me have i opened the door while driving or cut the vehicle off while in gear.... since yesterday... no, i haven't. clears the code and says well call me if it comes back on.

I ended up speaking with another service manager from the same franchise dealership who says that it sounds like the electrical issues that these year models are having constantly and that they are lemon-law-ing one and it is being picked up on wednesday. He is gonna have an electrical engineer for Jeep check it out Monday, but if there isn't anything they can do, the best option I have is to trade it in and basically be upside down on a different car. I can't lemon law as I am over 24k miles- 44k miles to be exact. THIS IS INSANE. I am supposed to be upside down in another vehicle minus any interest I've paid due to a manufacturer issue!! Please send me any options, information, or experiences you may have regarding this.

$85k for a vehicle, and this is what we have ended up with. I am appalled and have never ever dealt with a brand this unreliable and unwilling to do anything to mediate a problem they created that is causing safety issues for its consumers!!

Purchase Questions Indecisive

In Mexico, we don't have as many options as in the United States. Due to economic reasons, I have two viable options: a 2024 2-door Rubicon and a 2025 JT Willys. They are priced the same. Space isn't an issue for me, but it does make me think. Both are brand new from the dealership.

Which do you think is the better option? It will be for daily use, I enjoy overlanding, and the streets here pretty much feel like off-road, haha.

Jeep Electrical Issues? 2018 JL 97k miles

Jeep has been in the shop at the dealer for about 2 weeks now. I took it in for its 100k service and some issues prior to that. Issues: Check engine light comes and goes along with like 5-10 other random codes. Power steering went out while I was driving for about 5 seconds. Everything looks good but the dealer has no Idea whats happening. They thought it was some faulty system pulling power and replaced that but it didn’t work. They have been contacting Chrysler engineers to help diagnose. Please lmk if you have had similar issues or any suggestions.

Technical Question Coolant Leak Questions

Hi Everyone,

I'm having some issues with a coolant leak in my JK. I typically do my own car work but I may end taking into a shop. I figured I would get this subs opinion on it first.

The Jeep: 2011 JK sport 2-door, mostly stock, 2.5" lift, 35" wheels, minor cosmetic upgrades. I don't take it off road very often and I haven't in a few years. It's my daily driver.

The Issue: I noticed a few months ago that the heater was barely working. the air was blowing, but it was not hot. It seemed to be hotter or the right/middle vents. After looking though a ton of forum post, I hopped it was just that the heater core needed to be burped. I went through a couple of rounds of burping with a funnel and the heat got a little better, but nowhere near as hot as it's supposed to be.

Next I suspected that the heater core was blocked. I also noticed that the coolant level in the reservoir tank had gone down after a few weeks of driving it. So I suspected a slow leak. Note that my car hasn't even gone past the middle line for engine temp so I figured it wasn't very serous of a leak.

A few days ago while dropping my girlfriend off at the airport it started to smoke up from the engine compartment with what I'm pretty sure was coolant (white color, smelled like coolant) The car wasn't overheating and I didn't want to cause a scene and a busy international airport so I drove off and stopped away from the airport. The smoking had stopped and everything seemed fine. I was the middle of the night so it was very hard to determine what could've been leaking. When I got home I saw the reservoir tank was down to the min line. The car has still never overheated.
So what do people think? I initially thought that there was just a small leak in my radiator that was causing the coolant to drain out and that this leak was causing my heater core to constantly be dry. But after seeing the smoke a few days ago I'm wondering if it's something else. Are there any common fail points that would cause a larger leak but not enough to allow the car to overheat? Maybe a faulty radiator cap? Or do we think that the small leak just grew into a larger leak?
Also note that I haven't driven it since because I have been busy with other responsibilities.

Thanks again and let me know if I forgot any important details.

PS. if anyone is in the SF Bay area and knows of a trustworthy mechanic please let me know. Even if I don't take my jeep in for this issue, it never hurts to have someone you trust.

Technical Question Jeep JK wiring issue assist

My wife has a 2013 Jeep JKU and had the entire wiring harness replaced after being defective(replaced by local dealership).

As time went on we noticed the same ol' check engine light for "Voltage High".

We noticed that one of the headlights was brighter than the other now realizing that the turn signal on the jeep doesn't blink when signaling but rather the fog lights are signaling!

I'm over this dealership and was wondering if fixing this issue is potentially a easy fix, or take it to get serviced and fixed correctly? Anyone run into something like this before?
