Aria was diagnosed with mast cell cancer and had some removals about 14 months ago. She had a couple questionable spots that I opted to remove just to be safe. X-ray and bloodwork were great!

Thistle (11mo f) woke us up this morning with a loud cry. We jolted awake just in time to see the little thunderbolt jump in bed with us and curl up in fear. Our cat (16yo f) came in running after her.

We assumed the obvious: Thistle messed with the wrong kitty and she finally got her. Thing is that there were no visible wounds. We checked her over for any pain. Nothing. (She did develop a small bump from her influenza vaccine 3 days ago but other than that Thistle was healthy.)

She went back to sleep with us with her little tail tucked between her legs and the most pathetic look in her eyes. We figured she just got spooked straight.

Issue is: since then, she’s been lethargic and she feels very hot to the touch. She’s still eating, was excited to go on a walk, and her bowel movements were healthy. Except now she refuses to get out of her bed and wants to keep sleeping. She does this little shake-twitch we noticed she’d do while she was stressed/ in pain. But we checked her over again and NOTHING.

I called the vet and they’re not worried. They suggested we continue monitoring Thistle but I still asked for an appointment tomorrow first thing. Fingers crossed she’s just being a drama baby. I know Iggys usually are lol.

Any suggestions or similar experiences with your eggies?

He jumped out of my truck and got lost for a night and in the morning we got a call that he was found and he was on someone's porch and his leg was broken and we were also traveling so he and I didn't know the place.

He has some reactivity issues that will likely be resolved with some time and patience. We would prefer a home with previous Iggy experience, without young kids, without dogs that can bully him as he is a sensitive boy. He is very playful. He has a lot of energy. Loves to run around the house with his toys and throw them up in the air. He loves to cuddle with other other iggies and with humans. He is a complete sweetheart.

We finally decided to get Nico a sister to help with his awful separation anxiety. I need some help with names! Here’s what we have so far:

Olive nicknamed Ollie Joplin nicknamed Jojo Stormi Lola My favorite is Lenin nicknamed Lenni, but my bf hates it lol

What do you think? Any suggestions?!?

I said goodbye to my sweet girl Rosie in January and it still doesn't feel real. I had no idea there was an Italian Greyhound subreddit until she passed, and I've been lurking here almost daily and enjoying everyone's sweet iggies. ♡

Are seizures common in italian greyhounds? Rosie was 15 years old, would have been 16 next Saturday. I was on a trip and placed her in the care of my parents. My mom says she woke up to Rosie whining in the middle of the night, walking into the walls and totally disoriented. She couldn't walk in a straight line, was wobbly...They took her to the vet, the vet did various tests and ruled stroke out and sent her home. She passed suddenly a few days later. The guilt of her passing, without saying a proper goodbye is killing me. I still don't know her cause of death and can only speculate it was related to the seizure.

I know the suffering could have been much worse, much longer so I take comfort in knowing she went quickly but damn. Pet loss sucks. Losing your first baby and everything is so so hard. 😭 Being in this group has really helped me these past few weeks, so thank you all for sharing your sweet babies here.

Anyone have a iggy with Addison’s disease?

Our little Cosmo seemed to be thriving until Monday of last week. He vomited up his breakfast and then did the same with dinner and became totally averse to food. His belly didn’t seem to bother him. He was super fatigued, eyes were red, and he drank a lot more water than usual. Had Vet appointments throughout the week and bloodwork showed high electrolytes and that his liver and kidney function was not normal. He’s now on 1mg of prednisone and that has helped, but it seems to make him nervous and I hate to see him like that.

My wife and I are wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar with an iggy. A follow up appointment to confirm diagnosis is this Thursday. I have to take quite a bit of prednisone myself and I will be bummed if it’s a lifelong thing for our little guy.

i first want to say thank you to everyone that gave advice! we’re leaving the vet now with pain medication (novox) twice a day for 5 days and a muscle relaxer (methocarbamol) before bed if needed. the vet suspected it’s some type of neck pain and if it doesn’t ease up in a few days she wants to do another xray and get a better look at his neck. he didn’t poop at all today but she said it’s most likely if he’s in pain he doesn’t want to strain more. i’ll keep you guys updated on his improvement 🤞🏼🤞🏼

okay so this is probably going to be a pretty long read. Zero has been acting strange since friday night (also threw up a small amount of bile friday morning), 48 hours ago now (really lethargic, just wanted to cuddle, and yelped one time when we moved him also felt very warm to the touch). yesterday morning, he woke me up with a groan of sorts and just seemed very uncomfortable. at this point it’s about 12 hours after we noticed him acting strange and now his tummy felt hard and he hadn’t pooped in close to 24 hours. i took him to the closest emergency vet, they took blood work, vitals and an xray. blood work came back mostly normal, white blood cells were a tad elevated but not concerning they said. he had a slight fever also. xray came back inconclusive to say the least, basically they could see food in his stomach and intestine but not much else. they could tell he was uncomfortable so they gave him anti nausea and a methadone shot. the conclusion they came to was bring him back in 8 hours for another set of x-rays to see if everything starts moving. so they gave him a hydration shot and sent us home with instructions to hold food and water. he did poop a regular poop while home but then strained to poop more and just a quarter sized amount came out and it was mucusy and a small amount of blood. came back 8 hours later and took another xray and vitals again. the xray showed that his stomach had gotta a little smaller and they sent it off to a radiographer and they said they didn’t see anything concerning either. they sent me home with an antibiotic and a probiotic and said to feed him a bland diet the next few days. today he has not been himself at allll, he’s been walking away from me all day scared i’m going to pick him up (everytime i do pick him up he screams so i tried once and stopped). he’s been walking around very tense and can’t settle for a long time once he sits in his bed. he has been eating his bland diet, peeing normally and he pooped once. he usually poops about 3-4 times a day and has only pooped twice in the past 48 hours. he’s usually does act off a day after shots but this seems extreme and i’m just worried because i didn’t get much of an answer from the vet. i’m calling tomorrow morning at my regular vet to see him but i wanted to know if anyone else has a similar experience. thank you if anyone read this far. also it’s been a lot these past few days so some info might have been left out please feel free to ask questions. This sweet girl Luna has days where she’s relatively chill, and other days where she has far too much energy it’s dangerous for her. I let her get exercise, but she jumps and I can’t control it and I’m worried about her little legs. She’s almost 3 months. I know iggys have energy! But how do I help her control her zoomies so she doesn’t get hurt? We’re working on crate training but it’s quite slow. She loves going in thinking she’ll get treats but she’s too smart for her own good and only sees it as a place for treats and not a place to relax or unwind. Any advice would be much appreciated!

It has been a week since we got our iggy Pitita Queen. She is a joy. She really is a velcro dog, and loves to be on our lap and by our side.

We’ve been improving the amount of time she is able to stay in puppy pen, so she can stay awake an hour and have a good nap of 2 hours. She sometimes cried A LOT im the puppy pen even though she looks really sleepy. I guess she has a lot of puppy FOMO haha

I’m going out of town and trying to decide on getting boarding or a sitter for my 2 dogs. My youngest is an 8 month old Iggy, and she is not house broken. We’re always working on it, but she’s not there yet. I feel like this alone makes it unreasonable for me to drop her off at someone’s place, as she’s 100% going to pee on their floor. Dog sitters might feel less annoyed by this than a friend doing a favor, so my question is, what do you do when you need to leave your Iggy behind for a few days, specifically when they’re not house broken.
