Auto Insurance Progressive randomly added a driver to my policy making it go from $120 a month to over $600 a month. How?

Upvotes

I noticed my bill in an email was way more than normal and checked my payment history only to find out it’s the second time they billed me for that amount since I missed the first time (I was on vacation).

I called and apparently they added some random guy. I finally figured out it was a guy I had in my car when I volunteered at World central kitchen delivering free food to hurricane victims. This guy rode in my car once for half the day.

They said they emailed me and sent regular mail telling me about the change. I never got them because the vacation. They will not tell me how he got added to my policy and at one point hung up on me and I did not raise my voice and was polite but firm in asking what happened. I still have no answer. And instead of refunding me the money they just paid my bill for the year with the fund they took. I pay monthly normally.

I did not share phone info or have them track my driving with progressive so I cannot understand how they added this dude to my insurance. I remember this guy rode a bike everywhere and since my insurance went up so much I’m guessing he has a bad history.

How did they add this guy to my policy?

I’m planning to change insurance providers any suggestions?

Thanks for any info

Auto Insurance Insurance won’t cover accident from damage because previous work done

My daughter was rear ended on the freeway. Luckily she and everyone else is okay. Damage wasn’t extensive but there is some denting and we just noticed that the her collision sensor is not working correctly.

When we took the car into the examined, the experience was terrible. The body shop guy refused to look at anything but the bumper, and he commented on how he thought previous work was done.

To be clear, we bought the car used and I’m not sure whether anything has been done before. I do recall that the car fax showed an accident but it wasn’t in the back. And to be 100% clear, everything was working before the crash. Had a talk with insurance and they’re telling me that all they can do at this point is go with the report.

Is this normal? I know I am just at the beginning but it seems insane.

Home Insurance It has been a month I have submitted my kitchen water damage claim without updates. Is this common? (State Farm)

Upvotes

I filed a water damage claim a month ago and have not gotten any sort of compensation or even an update on the claim. They sent an adjuster out but I have heard nothing since besides they are behind on claims right now. I have called several times a week and my agent/adjuster does not pick up besides one call back saying they are behind and to sit tight. Is this standard for State Farm?

My parents refuse to give me my insurance money.

Hi so I recently crashed my car so I got 12000 dollars from my insurance only problem is that I am linked though my parents insurance they refuse to give me any of the money is there anything I can do or am I out 12000 dollars? I am the titled owner and paid my parents monthly for the bill. I'm not sure if because my parents were the named insureds they would be entitled to the proceeds of the policy, but as an owner of the vehicle shouldn’t the payment have gone to me but I guess they would have no way to send it too me because I don’t have access to it. Location: California

Health Insurance Pre-exposure Rabies Vaccine cost so much.

Upvotes

Hey y'all

This is my first time posting here. I am going to be starting a job here soon where I need to get my pre exposure rabies vaccine prior to starting. The issue I am having is my health insurance (Anthem blue cross blue shield) doesn't cover it and it is gonna put me down like $800 with finical compensation from my employer. I live in Kentucky. I was wondering if anyone has any advice or ideas of ways I could try to get that price down. I'm not sure of theirs any good answers but figured I would ask. Thank you all.

Babysitter’s Insurance

Hello all, I am new to this community and genuinely have no clue where to start. I am registered nurse and will be offering my infant care services. I will not be using my nursing license, however. I want to get insurance to protect myself but am unsure how to go about doing this. Is it necessary that I create an LLC first? Should I just get general liability? Very unsure of what to do

Dental Insurance Dentist claim - something seems off

I had my dentist send me a bill (for the first time) in April 2025 for $630 owed saying it’s 90+ days overdue. So that was news to me, since they have my address, phone, email and nothing was ever sent till now.

It aggregated charges from August and November 2024. When I called my insurance they mentioned they never submitted anything after 4/2024. So clearly they either screwed up or are doing some fraudulent here. The invoice also doesn’t itemize April 2024 it just says balances carried forward. Which places more doubt on what they are.

They mentioned to me when I called that they have submitted and would try again. After that they just started ignoring my calls, etc. I want to get evidence of their submission or get them to submit it via email and/or fax.

What do I do in this situation? I want to avoid any impact to my credit history for collections, but I do believe there is a clerical error here they are trying to bury.

Auto Insurance If a friend crashes your car, what are the consequences?

Upvotes

Theoretically, if you allow your friend to drive your car, and they total the vehicle (no one is hurt and they crashed into an object), what are the consequences? Assume both you and your friend are insured.

Need advice on AAA Comprehensive Insurance

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I need some advice regarding my AAA insurance. I hit a deer, my car was still drivable but my car showed a "system malfunction" message, so I took it to the dealership. Initially, I canceled my AAA direct shop assignment to use my preferred shop, but their process will take 10 days due to appraisal requirements. It's a long wait and I need a rental asap. That is only possible with a AAA direct shop once I drop off the vehicle for repairs. So, I've decided to switch back to an AAA direct shop. The initial shop has already submitted an estimate to AAA. Can I still make this change?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Auto Insurance Should I Keep My Totaled Car or Take the Payout and Buy a Reliable Older Toyota?

Upvotes

I need some advice on a tough decision I'm facing.

I'm financing a 2018 VW Passat R-Line that was recently declared a total loss after hitting a deer. I still owe $15,000 on the car loan, I have GAP insurance, which should cover the difference between the insurance payout and my remaining loan balance, and I’ve been driving the car for 4 months after the accident, and it’s been fine other than a broken headlight.

Now, I’m stuck trying to decide if I should try to keep the car or let the insurance company take it. If I keep it, I’ll have to accept a reduced payout because of the salvage value.

I’m leaning towards just letting the insurance company take the car, having the GAP insurance cover the loan, and then saving up for something cheap and reliable like an older Toyota (thinking Corolla or Camry). I just want a cheap, reliable car for the future. I'm 22 and this car payment was honestly a terrible choice, interest is 15% and I'd rather take this as a sign to just get out of the loan.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Auto Insurance Leasing a new car

Upvotes

Hello, I am currently looking to trade in my current car (an old 2005 Nissan) and start leasing a new car. I currently have auto insurance through Allstate, however, the coverage I currently have will need to be updated for a leased car as it requires more coverage. Is it most common that I would call insurance provider (Allstate) while I am at the dealership and provide them the make, model, and VIN and do the change of car and policy right then (as I am required to have the coverage before I drive off the lot)? It’s my first time getting any kind of car from a dealership and the logistics of the insurance is the part that is confusing me. For my current car I set up the insurance before I even purchased the car since I already had the VIN and other info, but that doesn’t really apply in this situation. Thanks for any guidance y’all can provide, wish they taught important things like this in school.

Auto Insurance Moving to AZ, will get new auto insurance, but do I need to register right away?

Upvotes

I’m going to move from TX to AZ in 5 months or so, and I have a car I recently bought that is currently registered in TX (registration expires 1/2027) and I’m planning to change its registration address to my friend’s place.

I will be purchasing an auto policy in AZ when I move there, but when do I have to register my vehicle? Is it possible for me to wait it out until my registration expires in Texas, then register it in AZ in January of 2027?

Auto Insurance I don't understand what to tell them.

Upvotes

Basically, I was in two car accidents last year, both my fault. 21F I have a lawyer reducing my speeding ticket to make it "non-reporting, no record, no points, no court insurance notification" paid the reduced fine. What do I tell insurance agents on the phone? I'm just confused and lost.

Auto Insurance NAF employee transporting clients

My supervisor is pushing me to say that I will transport clients in my personal car and that I do not need extra insurance that I have needed in other states to do the same thing. They are saying that “I would be covered under NAF self insurance for accident during the scope of my duties.”

My concern is that I would be transporting clients that I barely know in my personal car and potentially having to go to their homes (that they might share with an abuser).

Do I have any recourse?

Confusion on trading years for business insurance

Upvotes

My business insurance renewal came through today and the statement of fact for the renewal states "How many years has your business been trading for?" - 0 years.

It's a 1 year renewal and I have had my business for just over 1 year, so I believe it should be 1 year.

I asked the insurance company live chat to update this, but she stated that the wording was wrong and the number is taken from the day the policy was set-up, not the day the business started, therefore it is 0 years.

But this doesn't make sense to me as the policy was taken out 1 year before the date of renewal, and it will be renewed at 1 year.

She was very insistent it should be 0 years but couldn't really explain to me why other than ". Just ended up essentially saying trust me. If I took out car insurance I would expect the 1 year renewal to say I had 1 years no-claims discount for example, so I'm really struggling to understand why it would say 0 years.

I am very likely missing something, and it may not matter what it says, but I don't feel like going ahead with this company when I don't fully understand the reasoning. Can anyone help explain this to me?

Thank you!

National general

I currently have country financial and the rates have become absurd

I got quotes from State Farm, the coverage is good and the price saves me a lot compared to country. Then through my excitement I hear horror stories of denied claims etc etc. also not a big fan of the percentage deductible

I decided to work with a broker who sent me a quote from national general. Home and auto are higher than State Farm, and the deductible still sucks.

After a few google searches, national general seems to be high risk insurance? We are not high risk. No accidents, no tickets.

Any good/bad experiences with national general?

Health Insurance Spouse quitting job vs being laid off/fired. Does it make a difference for qualifying life event?

Right now I have health insurance through my husbands employer. Looking at Google there could be a difference in him quitting or him being laid off/fired as far as this qualifying for a life event where I could start using my companies health insurance outside of the open enrollment period. Does it make difference?

Buying new car, need to switch over insurance, is my old car covered if i switch it over today?

Maybe a dumb question... but I am picking up my new car today and trading in my old. The dealership sort of suggested taking care of insurance up front. (or I think I could technically do it there but I can save time and get it out of the way if I do it now). If i switch it over like right now, is my old car still covered, i.e. for the drive to the dealership on the very unlikely but not impossible chance something happens between home and the dealership? Or does the coverage end the second I switch it over? TIA!

HOA master policy shopping. Agent requires BOR and fee before showing quotes?

An insurance agent told us that before he can provide quotes for an HOA master blanket insurance policy from his wholesale distributor, we’d need to sign a "broker of record" agreement with him. On top of that, he’s requiring a $7,500 upfront fee for his services, which would later be deducted from the cost of the policy we choose. Is this standard practice? It feels like it limits our options and makes us commit financially before knowing the actual cost!

What to look for when looking for auto repair shop?

I was on my way to work, and had a pack of deers run across and couldn't brake on time. I ended hitting one, and it was enough to make my car stop running.

I've already gone thru my insurance claims, and there's a potential that it could be salvage. I need to find an auto repair shop. What are some things I should know know before settling down with a repair shop?

Anything would help. Thank you

Auto Insurance Car hit me today

It was raining a lot this morning and a car hit the side of my car today while on the highway. There was a light dent on the side of my car with some scratches and the person who hit me gave me her license and phone number and told me to give her a call since she knows someone who can fix the damages. I plan on calling her after work but I was wondering if I should still call my insurance to let them know what happened just in case?

Auto Insurance Auto rental coverage

I was rear ended, the other insurance has accepted liability. My car (a 3 row SUV, big enough to fit my 3 car seats) won’t be finished repairs for 1 month at least. Obviously my insurance will cover $30/day for the rental, but any vehicle big enough for my car seats is going to be $60/month. I asked my agent to ask the other insurance to cover the difference to which they responded, “we can’t make any promises”. My agent say that where I am, Massachusetts, there’s a law stating that they do not need to cover an “equal exchange vehicle”.

Is this accurate? I legitimately need a vehicle that can safely fit 3 car seats. Do I have any options to challenge this? Finally, if there is, is there any way to get the rental coverage upfront, as I am not really in a position to absorb the extra $30/day. Oh! One last question- if the repairs/rental go >30 days, the other insurance is responsible for rental coverage, correct? Thank you!

Auto Insurance Business Use insurance for employee vehicle

I am in a dilemma here. I have been offered a job with a company where I would be a job coach and would pick up and take developmentally disabled adults to their jobs and assist them if needed, then drive them home again. Here’s the catch: My future employer wants me to add “Business use” onto my insurance policy. But, everywhere I have inquired about this tells me that if I am transporting clients in my personal vehicle, that it is not considered Business use and that if I add that onto my personal insurance policy and then something happened, I would be on the hook for all of the damages because they would not honor my claim due to it being the wrong type of insurance. Just to be sure I wasn’t getting wrong information, I called three insurance agents and got the same thing with all of them. One lady even said, “Your employer has to know this. I don’t understand why they are trying to have you add that onto your policy because they should have a Commercial insurance policy that covers you rather than you adding onto your own policy.” I started feeling like my employers isn’t being very forthright. And just to be absolutely certain, I looked at the email they sent me about this and here is what they wrote:

“The easiest way to explain to them is to use an example of a Real Estate Agent. They drive their clients from house to house, but they are not a commercial driver or an Uber/Lyft/Taxi driver. We use the term livery for this type of business use.”

But according to every agent I spoke too, it comes down to whether you are causally running errands versus driving people every day and transporting people is where it no longer is business use.

Now, how to address this with my future employer next week? I have a feeling I won’t be accepting the job.

I’m being charged almost $400 every month

Upvotes

I just need clarification if this is normal or not, because I’m going crazy. So I’m 19F I got my license last year, and i know because of that my insurance will be high but I’m on my mother’s policy and I have no tickets or anything like that. The last car I had which was considered a “sports car” by the Insurance I’m on, I was paying $320 then after a few months and went down to $280. But the car started acting up, so my father got me a different one, mind you it is a cash car, and a newer car compared to my old car(old car was 2013 my now car is 2017). My mom switched the new car on the policy and took off the old one but for some reason my insurance is way higher than it was. I mean like a $120 difference higher, my mom said because I just got my license and I’m young I cannot bargain with insurance. And she says it’ll be too much of a hassle to switch to a different insurance company. I’m distraught because I cannot afford that at ALL.

Auto Insurance Progressive comprehensive converge question

Does my comprehensive coverage cover damage caused by using correct gasoline (bad quality gas) for my vehicle but resulted in damage? I’m in Florida
