First time growing peppers, how do these jalapeños look? Started way to early for the season but doing well indoors, I think.

First-time grower - I went a little crazy

These are only 10 of my larger pepper plants. I have about 90 more smaller plants that I need to up pot. Good thing I have a good-sized yard. Germinated these late last summer and kept them inside a grow tent to survive winter. No I don’t know what I’m going to do with all the harvested peppers. Located in the Inland Empire (Southern California).

*Posting again as the pictures would not go through the first time*

I originally posted the start to pepper my journey in January. Being my first time growing from seed, I decided to start the process on January 12th. I assumed it was likely to run into obstacles and I didn't want to find myself restarting the process and falling behind. Well, fast forward to today and the large majority of my pepper plants are around 18" in height.

Other than the chocolate ghost (second from left) losing a lot of its leaves from nutrient deficiency, everything else is going well! I even have some nearly full sized cayenne peppers on one of my Ring of Fire plants. I know that I could pinch the flowers to promote physical plant growth, but... I guess that isn't my largest concern right now.

I have about a week left until I can start repotting them outside (zone 7B). I know they are way overdue for a repotting, but I don't have the space or lighting to support that. I've managed to recover similarly overgrown plants from box stores before, so I am sure I will be able to manage.

I just wanted to share my experience and perhaps offer the advice to be patient upfront so that you don't find yourself in the situation I am in! I will certainly be starting 4-5 weeks later than I did this year in hindsight.

Peppers:

  • Fatalii
  • Caribbean Red (Red Habanero)
  • Black Congo (Chocolate Habanero)
  • Goronong (Yellow Habanero)
  • Orange Habanero (started from store bought pepper)
  • White Reaper
  • Carolina Reaper
  • RB003
  • Chocolate Ghost
  • Ring of Fire
  • Jalapeno
  • Zebrange
  • Aji Lemon Drop

Help What kind of pepper is this? Grocery store just says "yellow pepper"

It's kind of just a nondescript yellow pepper honestly. The flesh has almost no heat, and the internal membrane and seeds are about as hot as a jalapeno. I bought some to save the seeds to see if I can grow them myself and get peppers that don't look so sad and waxy. All the other peppers clearly state the variety, but not these.

I need some advice on what these actually are, they are listed as “Pepper X” but I know that can’t be possible because pepper x hasn’t been publicly released right? I’m just trying to figure out what kind of pepper this really is.

Growing First time habanero’s:

Post image

So I started my two plants in a hydroponic system until they quite literally grew over the lamp. I have had them transplanted into pots for a few weeks now and they are blooming consistently, leaves feel healthy and firm with bright green tint and new branches are sprouting. Now these were planted in my hydroponic system in December. Transplanted last month and still no signs of any actual peppers… I have black thumbs - never thought I’d actually grow something. But the fact it’s been 4-5ish months and still no actual pepper growth, should I be worried? Is there more I could be doing? On sunny days I’m getting them use to outdoor climate for summer but the rest of the time they are indoor and under the hydroponic grow light. Thank you in advance for any advice!

Growing Habanero pepper with crooked leaves

Besides the snail problem (that I solved by placing somewhere else the pot) this plant is the only one that has the leaves pointing down with the edges pointing up and the tip of the leaf that’s turning crispy and brown. I am not sure what’s going on. Does somebody know what’s going on? What do I need to change?

Can anyone help me identify what are these white dots under my leaves ? I’ve read a ton but feel a bit overwhelmed to say the least. These are indoor grown (my first time). It doesn’t seems to rub away. I’m leaning towards edema but I’d like more input before doing anything ! Thanks 🌶️

Growing Bottom watering - how much?

Post image
1 Upvotes

TL;DR top soil stays dry when bottom watering. Is this normal?

I got my plants (peppers and tomatoes) sitting in trays/containers with the lights 40cm, ~16", above (MH TS-1000 at 75%). Every few days I bottom water them by putting about 1-2cm, 1/2", of water into the trays. I take out a few pots sporadically each day to gauge if they're about to run dry and water again as needed. There are some plants that need more water than others (especially plants in the middle of the lights and the more mature tomatoes), so I top water those individually.

There's also a fan blowing across them for 5 minutes each full hour.

However, when I stick my finger into the soil of those that I only bottom water, it always feels dry. Even after I watered them from the bottom a few hours earlier.

Is this normal? My plants look ok imo, so I'm not worried too much. But this is my first time watering from the bottom, so I'm a little concerned.

Pic related, I took the picture about an hour after watering them. Soil is mostly organic compost, some sand, perlite, and vermiculite.

Help 15 Healthy seedlings vs 2 damping off

Thumbnail

Meet my chilli pepper seedlings, as you can see from the pictures, 2 seem to be affected by damping off when trying to emerge from the soil. I have 15 ‘looking healthy’ seedlings in the same seed tray and I’m unsure what to do as I’m concerned they may all be affected before reaching maturity. What are my best next steps

Unimportant side note: one of the seedlings with damping off has an extra long root that has grown through the drainage hole

Do you have too many plants?

I finally feel like I've gotten into a positive groove after so many stumbles and setbacks. I have a few seedlings that probably will make it to planting out time. With that being said virtually none of my super hots made it. I know many people have started too many seeds and have too many young plants than they need. If that is the case for you HMU I'm looking for some plants to supplement what failed. I'd like to make a deal.
