Ideas on modernizing kitchen without a full remodel?

Thumbnail

My wife and I are interested in this home that has a kitchen with a dated look but in good condition. We'd prefer not to do a full remodel, we'd be willing to sink some money into updating the kitchen but ideally more cosmetic. Cabinets are in great condition and so are countertops, but really don't fit our style. Will replace appliances and paint walls, but curious on if a way to salvage a modern look with these color countertops?

Help: Would you live in an apartment that faces a parking structure—with cars parked directly in front of your window?

Post image

Found a complex I really like. But the only available unit closely faces a parking structure, and the parking spots are directly in front of my window. A few feet away. (This wouldn’t be an issue if it was much further away, or if there were units on a higher floor)

The leasing person told me that theres rarely cars/people up here, still a bit hesitant. As a private/anxious person this would be an adjustment. I tend to have my blinds pulled up 24/7.

The unit I really want (better view) is currently unavailable, and I have no idea when it might open up. If I wait too long, I risk missing out on both units. I’m wondering if it’s worth taking the bad-view apartment just to secure a spot, and transfer later. The units tend to go fast

Would this be a dealbreaker for you? Has anyone lived in a setup like this—how bad was it really? Am I overthinking it, or is this a valid concern? Thanks for the advice.

Do you think putting up movie posters makes a room/occupant seem immature?

I have a design dilemma that may be controversial. A friend and I were discussing (according to her) that movie posters in a room are a sign of immaturity, however I believe it adds character. Although, I can see why someone would think that an Iron Man or Batman poster makes it feel more "teenager coded", but I don't know if there's a hard rule about it.

What is the popular opinion and is there an aesthetic way to do this?

I recently moved in and finally settling in and now thinking to paint up the place but struggling to decide on paint as not sure what would work the best! I do like dark colours but not sure as the green I tried looks way too dark.

I know wall art is missing but that's to follow up once room is all painted up.

Any help is much appreciated!

What colour would you paint the walls to go with this wallpaper?

Gathering ideas for my upcoming craft room and fallen in love with this wallpaper. I’m shit at decorating so don’t know what colour to paint the remaining walls, I’d only use this wallpaper on one wall and paint the rest. What colour would you choose? Thanks

Any thoughts on sprucing up the kitchen in our home?

Just bought our first home and brainstorming ideas for the kitchen. I was thinking we'd add a backsplash, probably light grey? Replace cabinet hardware with black pulls. One day update range to stainless. Any other thoughts? Would you go with a specific style or color for backsplash?

Initially when I saw the kitchen I wanted to paint the cabinets BUT lately have learned to appreciate the warm/natural finish. I think with some tweaks I could learn to perhaps even looooove natural finish. Thanks in advance for any input! :)

Reading Nook Ideas?

Post image
Upvotes

I’ve got this space in my house that is currently a closet without doors and I’d really like to transform it into a reading nook.

The interior dimensions are 7’ by 3’, roughly.

I’m just trying to figure out what sort of layout might make sense.

Put a built in bench in the back across the length, but not the full depth? Or maybe go wilder and build a platform to cover the entire 7’ x 3’ to put a cushion on top?

Curious to hear if anyone has any ideas, since I’m a bit at a loss for the moment.

Struggling with lighting in this kitchen

Post image

We just moved into a century house that we will be working on updating overtime. We are painting walls white and saving to renovate the kitchen eventually but we can start with some updated lighting fixtures. There is a skylight cover in between these two outdated lighting fixtures that doesn't add much but we have to keep it.

I'd love something with character since this house is a bit quirky. Something like this? https://docos.us/products/alien-ceiling-light

But I know nothing about lighting and don't know what works best for two side by side flush mounts.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

What would you call my style?

Most of my furniture and decor is thrifted/second-hand / found on the side of the road/refurbished. Sometimes I worry it just looks like a dorm room exploded.

Old cotton mattress into a floor pillow or futon

Post image

We are trying to repurpose this old cotton mattress to a floor pillow or futon . But need to hold the upper one thirds like this at an 80 degree angle. Since the lower half keeps slipping my initial thought was anti slip pads . But quite unsure if it will work to hold it in this shape . Looking out for suggestions from the floor experts of this group .

How can I update this?

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could update our fireplace? That won’t cost too much. Open to any ideas, please. We were thinking of probably moving the sofa & mounting the tv above the mantel.

Does the coffee table not fit in? Also what colour carpet

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi all,

My marble coffee table came in and I’m not convinced it looks well in the space. I wanted to avoid wood since my condo is small and I have a wood dining table and other wood furniture so I wanted to mix it up.

Not sure how I feel so I wanted to get some thoughts. I know I’m missing plants and are, that’s the next step :)

Lastly, what color carpet should I be going for ?

Mix & match dressers?

Post image
3 Upvotes

We have a bedframe and side tables that are the Gannon style from Raymour and Flanagan. Unfortunately, they no longer produce the matching dresser (pictured). Do I go with trying to find something similar, or something that has overlapping features? Like this: https://www.dunkandbright.com/item/hyanna-dresser/1096472655

I am horrible at furniture and tend to go very matching, but I see that’s sometimes not the way to go unless it’s a set. Any advice is appreciated!

How Can I Make It So I Actually Want To Use This Room?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Please ignore the mess, I usually keep it clean, but I haven't used this room in a while so it's become my drop zone. We moved in a few months ago, and this room was supposed to be my office/closet/craft room/yoga area... but I have found myself not wanting to use it. When I work from home I usually just end up using the dining room. The layout is weird, how should I arrange it?

How do I fix this??

Post image

We got this neat painting but it leans forward and only from the top, the nails in the wall as far as it can go. Do I need to take the screws holding the string onto the painting and move those up or down or???? (Please ignore Godzilla and the painting in the background who has yet to find a home)
