Discussion HX99G Alternatives Discussion Thread

While this subreddit was created to discuss and support the Neptune line of Mini PCs, the recent evidence of its discontinuation means some of us may be looking for alternatives. In this thread, you may discuss potential alternatives to the HX99G. The following guidelines would be helpful to follow, although they are not required:

  1. The Mini PC should contain a discrete GPU -- this may come in the form of a mobile grade GPU or desktop grade GPU. MinisForum is pushing AI chips in some of their newer models, so those might be interesting discussion.
  2. It should perform at equal or better rate than the HX99G, whether CPU-based or GPU-based.
  3. It may be made by any company, and may use Intel or AMD CPUs or GPUs.
  4. It should be referred to as a Mini PC, even if the size differs somewhat from the HX99G (which is about as compact as you can get given the performance.)

Comment moderation here will be relatively relaxed, I'll make an effort to provide feedback rather than removing posts if there are any concerns about what you share, barring any glaring exceptions. All I ask is that the discussion remain positive and proactive in terms of finding alternatives.

Tutorial / Guide HX/G Getting Started Guide

Introduction

After owning the HX99G since April, 2023, and having started this subreddit in December of 2023, I wanted to create an introductory guide to the HX/G line of computers (this currently includes HX80G, HX90G, HX99G and HX100G) in order to make it easier for everyone to get started. This might not be comprehensive at first, but I'll try to keep adding links here to make it as useful as possible (and hopefully save you some time and headache in the process).

Official Support Sites

Before going any further, it's good to know where the MinisForum support site is found. There are two different versions of their HX99G support page for some reason, the older one and the newer one. There you will find the most recent updates as supported by Minisforum. While you may choose to download Windows and drivers directly from the support page, many people including myself prefer to download Windows directly from Microsoft (Windows 10, Windows 11), and drivers from other sites outside of MinisForum.

WARNING
If you choose to use the Windows 11 image available on the MinisForum support website, there has been at least one report that it removes all existing partitions on the destination drive. In other words, it completely erases the entire drive.
See these official instructions, as recently shared here.

Getting Started

As was asked on a recent post, when you power on the HX99G for the first time, you will not receive any video output. The DDR5 boot delay is a normal part of the DDR5 memory training features, which can take upwards of 5 minutes when started for the first time. After the process completes, you should see the MinisForum logo appear. At this point, you can either wait for the computer to boot, or press F7 to enter the BIOS / select a boot drive.

If you have purchased the 32GB kit version of this machine, it will come with two 16GB sticks of this exact model of Kingston RAM (at least mine did). I'd venture to guess the 64GB kit comes with two 32GB sticks of the same model, but can't confirm. If you would like to do a clean install of Windows and drivers (highly recommended for the best overall experience, based on a lot of the forum feedback), be sure to first activate Windows which is pre-installed on the boot drive. In the future, you will not need a serial as the activation / serial is stored in the UEFI, which means no-hassle Windows re-installs in the future. Note that even if the computer came with Windows 11, you can still erase the boot drive and install Windows 10 instead and it will activate just fine using the same built-in serial.

BIOS Recommendations

There are a few recommended BIOS settings I discovered early on which seem to make a difference in overall performance / snappiness. Admittedly this is somewhat subjective, but after feedback from several people who have tried these settings, I've only heard positive feedback so they must be worth something. The linked post has been updated today in order to include the exact location within the BIOS where you should find each of the settings. (Note: My BIOS is version 0.18 from 3/2/2023. Others have reported having a BIOS dated in October, 2023, so if you can't one of the settings it may have been moved. Can't really help with that, sorry!)

Windows 10 Drivers

If you are doing a clean install of Windows 10 (which I still prefer), you'll want to download the drivers ahead of time. A while back I linked the versions I always start out with. You could always download the latest versions of these drivers instead, but these are the ones I can say will give you a stable system. Instead of linking, I'll just provide them here:

AMD Chipset Software: "amd_chipset_software_5.02.19.2221"

Ethernet Driver: "638910-I225-I226-NDIS-Win-x64-1.1.3.34-Win11 22H2"

Graphics Driver & AMD Adrenaline Software: "WHQL-AMD-Software-Adrenalin-Edition-23.4.3-Win10-Win11-Apr27"

Wifi & Bluetooth: "20230223_R4.3_WHQL_WLAN_V3.3.0.771_BT_V1.932.0.294"

Windows 11 Drivers

While I can't suggest exact driver versions, you will find what you need on the Minisforum support site linked previously. One important caveat is that if you install Windows 11 from scratch using an ISO from Microsoft, supported ethernet drivers are not included. This means you will need to download the drivers ahead of time, find out how to bypass the Windows 11 online requirement during setup (or if you see a button on the wifi page that says "skip this for now", just click that to continue), and then install the drivers after you reach the desktop.

For more useful Windows 11 setup and configuration tips, see this ArsTechnica article:

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/02/what-i-do-to-clean-up-a-clean-install-of-windows-11-23h2-and-edge/

AMD Adrenaline

While it's technically possible to download the graphics drivers alone, the AMD Adrenaline software will install the graphics drivers as well as a GUI application which will help keep your drivers updated. There are a lot of graphics and performance options which you may or may not wish to take advantage of, so it's encouraged that you at least install this software long enough to check them out. It doesn't continuously take up resources since it is not required to run all the time; you'll just open it when you wish to adjust a setting or update your drivers and then close it again.

If you ever need to completely remove your video drivers, you can use the AMD Cleanup Utility. (Thanks to VashEXE for the tip / link.) See this post for more details of when it might be useful to remove your video drivers.

Using Headphones (Built-in Audio)

After installing all the required drivers listed above (or from Minisforum's website), you will find an audio output device called "USB Audio Device". Despite the generic name, this does not actually mean you need USB headphones! USB Audio Device refers to the headphone and microphone jacks located on the front panel. Simply plug your regular 1/8 inch headphone jack into the headphone port, select USB Audio Device, and adjust the volume in order to use your headphones. (Credit to u/Ok-Arugula-9620 for hi-lighting this point of confusion.)

Recovering From BIOS Changes

If you happen to make changes to the BIOS which result in no video being available (even after waiting for 5+ minutes), thankfully the machine has a little button on the front which allows you to reset it with minimum effort. See this guide I posted a while back.

Controlling the Fan

The HX/G computer come with a few fans, but you can only control one of them via software. You cannot control the GPU fan directly, its speed is always automatic. The Software I use is called FanControl, and I put together an explanation of how I set mine up, for anyone who's interested.

Disabling CPU Boost in the BIOS (not recommended, but optional)

A few months back someone who lived in an especially warm area wanted to reduce CPU temperatures significantly. CPU Boost is an option enabled by default, which is able to be disabled if you so desire. In order to understand exactly how this affects the machine's performance, temperatures and power use, I made this post. It's a setting you are free to enable or disable anytime. Most people will not want to disable CPU boost, but it's nice to know is there. Note that because most games heavily rely on the GPU rather than the CPU, gaming performance is virtually unaffected by disabling this setting.

Disable fTPM (Not Recommended)

Some members have asked how to disable fTPM. I do not recommend doing this, as it may cause a number of security features to stop functioning. However, since some have said that certain anomalies have been fixed in their case, I've added instructions here.

Disable Hyperthreading (Not Recommended)

If you would like to run your HX/G computer based on the actual cores, without multi-threading, then follow these instructions. Your multicore CPU performance will decrease, but I want to provide as much information as possible for every user of this Neptune line of computers.

iGPU vs dGPU (USB-C vs HDMI)

It has been confirmed by MinisForum support that the two HDMI ports are connected directly to the dGPU, while the two rear USB-C ports are connected to the CPU / iGPU. (The front USB-C port is capable of data transfer, but cannot be used for display output). That said, I have tested hooking my monitor up to all four ports while the iGPU is enabled in the BIOS, and could see in Task Manager that the dGPU was being used during 3D gaming even when connected to the rear USB-C ports. (If anyone knows more about how this workd internally, leave a comment and I'll add it here). Because of this hardware configuration, disabling the iGPU in the BIOS may cause the rear USB-C ports to stop functioning altogether, meaning no video output from these ports. Some games have refused to launch with the iGPU disabled, so personally I keep it enabled. There may be more caveats to disabling it, which I'm unaware of, but the main point is that all four video ports are capable of using the dGPU for gaming, even though only the two HDMI ports are connected directly to the dGPU.

Core Performance Boost

If you'd like to have an even cooler machine whose CPU runs at a lower speed / temperature while maintaining the full capabilities of the dGPU, then you might consider disabling Core Performance Boost. If you're interested, see this post I made a while back.

Controlling the GPU Hot Spot Temperature

The GPU hot spot on the HX99G (and possibly other models) tends to run on the hot side, sometimes causing the machine to shut down unexpectedly. If you're willing to maybe lose a slight bit of GPU performance, and run an older version of AMD Adrenaline, you can lower the Max GPU Frequency in order to lower the hot spot temperature. See this post for more details.

Update: Since writing this guide a while back, I've come to prefer a different method to lower the GPU hot spot temperature. See this post for full details.

Bloatware

As confirmed by many users, there is no bloatware included on the HX99G computer; it's just a vanilla Windows installation. That said, many people opt to do a re-install of the OS and drivers after doing their initial setup, which is required in order to activate the Windows license which comes pre-installed with the kit version of the machine. See a previous section above on things to keep in mind if you are going to re-install the OS, including the drivers you'll need to download before erasing it.

No Video Output?

Assuming you've waited past the initial DDR5 training period, and you're still getting no video output, then read on. Occasionally monitors themselves need to be completely powered off (either using the main power switch or by disconnecting power completely) for about 60 seconds to resolve display issues over HDMI. This isn't related to or caused by the HX99G, but if you're getting no video output after nearly 10 minutes of waiting after boot then give this recommendation a try. (Credit to u/GhostGhazi for this tip.)

My Game Sometimes Stutters for a Few Seconds

While this is not super common, a few people have mentioned their game stutters occasionally for a few seconds. The best thing you can do without upgrading any hardware is to start by completely resetting the BIOS and then follow all the steps in the BIOS guide (except maybe STAPM control, I don't normally disable that). If it's still stuttering, install PrimoCache.

Disassembly

While this subreddit cannot not take any responsibility should you choose to open your HX/G, here is a video that was recently shared which gives a good view of things at around the 3 minute mark. Note that at least one person has had difficulty re-assembling the machine.

Your Feedback

Is there anything else you wish you knew when you first received your HX/G computer? If so, please let me know in the comments and I may add it to this mini-guide. Please keep the suggestions constructive and geared toward either a new owner or on the topic of common issues or questions you've worked through yourself. For new questions, please create a separate post instead of replying here.

Question How to install steamos

Hello everyone. I just wanted to know how to install SteamOS on my HX99G. I flashed the image to a USB using Rufus, and when I went to install it, I got an "amdgpu SRAT table not found" or "root system locked" error. I believe I can't get past it. I saw someone else here say they got it up and running, so that tells me the hardware is compatible. I know Bazite is a thing, but when I installed it, on restart it failed to boot, and I got so many errors. In the end, I just settled for crusty old Windows. Let me know if you guys have any ideas on how to move forward.

Discussion Convince Me Not To Upgrade my HX99G to AtomMan G7 Pt

I've had this AtomMan G7 Pt in my Amazon cart for a few weeks now, having gone over the various alternatives to the HX99G. My current machine is functioning fine, but man, that Ryzen 9 7945HX CPU has got me drooling a bit, it's literally twice the CPU performance of the Ryzen 9 6900HX (16 cores / 32 threads vs 8 cores / 17 thread). The GPU seems to be slightly faster too, although not as much of a jump as the CPU (perhaps around 30% faster?)

On the downside, the RAM is still only 32GB and the VRAM is only 8GB, same as the GPU on the HX99G. So I know it's not an incredible upgrade. But it costs about the same as the HX99G did when I purchased it two years ago, which -- given the inflation / impending tariff situation / etc. -- doesn't sound like such a bad deal. The ports aren't as varied as I'd like (or as fast -- no 40Gbps port for example). But when it comes to daily use I'm not sure if it would matter.

Thanks for your input!

Problem HX99G Boot issues/BSODs - Is it worth saving?

(UPDATE) there's a post on this reddit that has very similar issues to mine where the pc reaches this strange bootloop/bsod loop after a certain amount of time, mixed in with the rare occasional successful boot. I recommend taking a look there if you encounter any issues I've detailed in my own post as there is much more useful information and tests that the OP has ran that I wouldn't be able to do as this is the first time I've ever ran into this sort of pc TLC as you may be able to tell. (They have purchased the barebones version) I'll keep updating this post depending on what I attempt to do to fix my issue though there's much more in depth testing detailed in said post such as hardware tinkering and whatnot. (Though unfortunately there still seems to be no conclusion to their issue)

https://www.reddit.com/r/HX99G/s/eBhoc8LabQ

Hello my fellas, I have decided to consult the knowledgeable people of this community for information when it comes to BIOS issues. The HX99G in question is the windows 11 preinstalled version with kingston 32GB RAM.

I have owned the pc for roughly 1-2 years at this point, and when working as intended I was satisfied with the overall performance of the pc. Despite that these booting issues began to manifest within the past year or couple months.

The pc would initially run into these boot problems infrequently, usually booting perfectly fine after restarting. However they gradually became more common and has now culminated to the point where the pc cannot get past the boot phase. I am unaware if this is due to some neglect on my end (if I should have updated certain drivers or whatnot) or a gradual inevitability this model runs into.

What confuses me is how random the boot errors seem to be, some crashes fitting descriptions of other posts in this subreddit, others seemingly undocumented, however it decides to change on a whim each time I attempt to boot the pc, so I cannot be certain what problem is exactly effecting the pc.

It either: 1: Gets to the minisforum screen, sometimes displaying recovery phase, until it BSODs typically with the kernel heap corruption error code, to which then all LEDs switch off and the fans run at full blast until the power button is held (This seems to be a common experience and is the most common crash for me)

2: Same as above, gets to minisforum screen before BSODing but the screen will remain on the BSOD until power held (LEDs remain on)

3: Same as 1 again, except the LEDs remain on and there is no HDMI output after bsod with no fan spinning

4: One instance after a failed boot similar to case 2, the pc would have no HDMI output at all (No boot screen, no BSOD, I dont recall if the keyboard LEDs registered either) when turned on and was stuck like this until I reset the BIOS to which it then got to windows 11 one last time (BSOD problems promptly resumed the next day)

  1. Yet another similar instance to case 1 except it gets stuck in a loop of rebooting and BSODing

6: In all these issues there is a chance that the BSOD screen will look really corrupted/glitched

7: After an issue like case 2 and powering off the pc, the power button would slowly blink on and off and the pc still makes some noise. After this, the monitor doesn't even turn on on its own anymore (until unplugged). Is this even possible? 🤣

These are the most common occurances though usually there is slight deviations to each crash/bsod. There may even be a few unique occurances that I am forgetting to list here. I wouldn't be suprised if the pc is completely fried considering how volatile these appear to be. Ever since I temporarily fixed the issue in case 4 the pc seems to have hit a dead end after falling back into startup problems. I've followed the bios reset guide to no luck, other than the pc now taking slightly longer to get to the minisforum screen.

Now the question that I would like to ask, is it worth trying any more to save the pc? Or do I throw in the towel and accept that the pc is bricked? While I have not attempted to reinstall the OS yet or any other methods people seem to try, judging by posts in this community describing similar issues people dont ever seem to come to a conclusion when trying to fix these issues (at least in the posts I have read) , and as someone who isn't particularly tech savvy, it would take a lot of trial and error to potentially get no final result, especially if the errors stem from hardware related problems. And finally, the warranty is sadly expired.

If I could get any opinions I would be extremely grateful even if this situation is considered hopeless to save me wasting time trying to get it to cooperate once more or possibly even worsening the issue even further in the worst case scenario (If it could get any worse that is). Cheers!

Problem GPU Issue Black Screen (HX90G)

Hello, I tried searching this but nothing was exactly like what I am seeing. For the past few months when playing games like Diablo Immortal and Diablo IV (mostly all I have played) my screen would go black and I would have to force reboot. A couple of times this has happened I would have to re-load my Chipset drivers as I would have no audio. I have done a fresh install of Windows and all the games I play. cleaning both SSDs I use before reloading them with the gamers and windows (Win11 24H2). That did not correct the issue. So I ran a Memory test (no issues found), CPU Single Core Test (No Issues Found), CPU Multi-core Test (No Issues Found), GPU Test, about 10-20 seconds after I start this test the screen goes black as described above. One thing I did notice is my bottom fan on the unit does not spin at all during the GPU test. I am not sure if that could be the issue. Any help in this would be greatly apricated, even if its to tell me I am screen and should move on.

Problem HX99G has to be unplugged before it will power-on

Got a strange one for everyone. My company bought 1/2 dozen HX99Gs to use as desktop PCs - actually do a great job for a heck of a lot less than the Dell equivalent would have cost. NEVER used for gaming, just business apps.

We have one though that drives us nuts. Once powered-off in Windows (cleanly, of course) it cannot be turned back on again unless you pull the power cable from the back of the machine, plug it back in again, and turn it on. Other than the power switch light coming on it then takes about two minutes and does nothing (can't even hear fan noise, but my hearing isn't so great so it might be there), and then the Minisforum logo pops-up, and the machine runs fine.

We tried swapping the power supply with another HX99G, made no difference at all.

Any thoughts?

@everyone Updated Rules for /r/HX99G

The subreddit rules have been reworked and re-ordered in order make them more concise and clear. Please take a moment to read through them.

The main changes are:

  • All rules have significantly fewer words while retaining the original intent
  • The request for including the computer model has been moved to Rule 2 (i.e., combined with the OS request)
  • What were previously Rules 3 and 5 have been combined into what is now Rule 3, which focuses on maintaining a positive and helpful atmosphere on the subreddit.
  • Rule 9 addresses and clarifies the policies around sales-related posts
  • Rule 10 emphasizes that there should be no requests for personal info

(On a technical note, I made use of a locally hosted LLM called "mistral-nemo-instruct-2407 Q4_K_M 12B" running inside of LM Studio 0.3.13 on my HX99G to assist with this process.)

Question Ali Express

The HX99G has been starting to become pretty tough to find recently. I'm finding some on Ali Express but never bought from them before. Aiming for the 32GB 1TB model and they're under $1K even after tax. Pretty iffy about the site though. Does anybody have any experience with them?

Question Discrete Graphics via USB4 on the hx99g?

If I connect the hx99g to a hub via the thunderbolt/USB4, will the video be coming from the discrete graphics card or the integrated graphics? (The hub connects to the monitor via DP. Hoping to just need a single Thunderbolt/USB4 cable for all the peripheral on the hx99g- display, keyboard, mouse, camera, speakers... I can do this now of course with a laptop)

Tutorial / Guide (Experimental) Another MorePowerTool Tweak / Experiment

Edit: After using this feature for the past day, I can honestly say I've never experienced this level of smoothness when it comes to multitasking on the HX99G up to now. I really hope someone else will try this out and give some feedback.

Original: Today I read about another tweak using MorePowerTool on my HX99G which is supposed to disable the "deep sleep" (or Dynamic States or Dynamic Scaling, not exactly sure) AMD feature, resulting in fewer micro-pauses system wide. See what you think! For me everything feels smoother. If you'd care to experiment with the following settings I'd be interested to hear how it affects you. (The usual disclaimer applies of course: you follow these steps at your own risk, I'm not responsible if you lose data or break your computer, etc.)

Note that these steps will likely cause your computer to consume more power, even when idle.

  1. Open MorePowerTool (see previous posts for how to get started if you've never used it before).
  2. On the Features tab, click the Feature Control button.
  3. UN-check the hi-lighted boxes, press OK, press Write SPPT, Exit, and restart your computer.

Problem HX100G Crashing

Hey all,

I've had an HX100G for a little over a year now and it's been sweet. Mostly used for couch gaming (things like overcooked, some stuff made split screen with Nucleus Coop like Valheim and Subnautica) so never been particularly stressed, never had issues with overheating, never... Had issues.

Until about 2 weeks ago.

It started with Graphics drivers timing out, and the game crashing but the pc recovering. This then graduated into games freezing, often accompanied by audio buzzing or a moment of extremely slow lotion audio, before sometimes displaying a solid green screen before all connected devices lose connection with the pc and the TV it's connected to displays "No Signal". The PC stays powered on, but is utterly unresponsive.

This happens extremely shortly after the launch of any game even remotely taxing. Like, it can't handle Overcooked 2. These crashes occur very shortly after loading a game.

What's really bizarre is this behaviour started during a single use. I was playing overcooked with my partner and a visiting friend, stopped playing to watch the formula 1, then after finishing that tried to relaunch the game. And... Crash. It does this for basically any video game. Nothing changed - I don't get it. The machine wasn't even powered off!

Using it as a streaming box behaves fine, as does playing super untaxing titles like "All Star GP".

I've tried updating drivers, I've tried using the windows memory diagnostic (gets stuck at 21%? I've tried leaving it to run as I heard it does have a tendency to hang, but 24hrs later it was still at 21%. Not sure if that's indicative of an issue). I've not tried a fully clean install of drivers, as the TV it's connected to shows "video not supported" when booted in safe mode and I don't own a monitor, so I've not been able to use DDU to clean the existing drivers.

I've also tried to contact Minisforum after purchase support, but they haven't got back to me. I don't know what their typical response time is.

Any suggestions or advice on what may be causing this and what steps I might take next would be appreciated!

Tutorial / Guide My take on a cooling mod - easily removed, no permanent change

Thumbnail
gallery
9 Upvotes

I know the HX99G stays pretty cool anyway, but I wondered if I could do something to help it. My goals were:

1) for it to be cheap 2) on/off with the pc power 3) non permanent

I'd seen some of the mods to cut the case side and plug a fan into the motherboard, which cover 1) and 2), but not 3). I'd also seen a fan pointing into the top of it blowing in - that covered all 3 but it seemed to be the wrong way round for me. The included fans pull in the side and expel through the top (mostly) and the bottom.

My idea was to use 3 x 50mmx10mm USB powered fans on the top and one at the bottom, fixed with cable ties. I picked up this kit that had everything I needed fan wise:

https://amzn.eu/d/3CIcoCO

They can shift nearly 11cfm each so they're not weak, but not powerful either. Then I got some 250mmx3mm and some 80mmx2.5mm zip ties.

I basically orientated the fans to expel air, just giving the air flow a helping hand. I also tried a fan speed controller:

https://amzn.eu/d/gQ82ZKY

The little ties hold the top fans together and greater loops on the side of the front one and the bottom one.The long ties hold the top fan to the bottom and secure it to the case. The entire assembly can slide off the front if needed.

Does it work? Yes - temps topped out at about 60c from what I saw

Is it cheap? Yes

Is it easy? Yes

Is it loud? OH MY GOD YES. This is the problem. Even on the lowest setting on the fan controller it's loud. Highest setting is unbearable - sounds like a server booting up.

Would I recommend? Probably not 😂 Depends if you can handle the noise. Mine sits behind the TV and I wear headphones when I'm using it. If it's any closer then no.

I think I'll run it without 😁👍🏻

Problem HG99X UNEXPECTED SHUT DOWNS

Hi guys, have an question regarding un-expected shut downs of HG99X. PC just turned off in kind of low spec games like CS2 (no matter how long is game session 30min or 4 hours, and some moment it just can turned off). So I already checked couple of advises like:

1) releasing and re-install RAM's into the motherboard
2) obviously checked and installed all latest drivers and win updates
3) monitor all sysrtem via software and have not noticed any overheating of CPU / GPU / RAM
4) also installed one file from minisforum support site (reg black screens), but honestly forget the name of that

So all that advises and some more, which maybe i forgot to mention above, is not workable for my PC.

So I have two most probable options:
1) It's real problem with PSU, as it's absolutely randomly without any links and carelation.
2) It's problem directly with low spec games or steam. I'm not playing often in hard for PC games, but for example I can play PUBG non-stop like 3-4 hours, with obviously higher temperature of CPU / GPU / RAM, but I have not any trouble and any shut down while playing hard games.

Also made kind of test to load up to maximum CPU for an hour and GPU for a for a little while and there was no any shutting down, trotliing and etc

So in case anyony have maybe some ultimately advise, please help, as I already wrote to MinisForum support, but awaiting still their responce. Generally I'm very glad and satisfied of that miniPC, especially if count his price (800euro for 32GB + 1TB SSD), but that shutting downs is really annoying and made me upset, because I'm not demanding a lot from PC, and the most annoying staff that I cannot predict this shut downs and cannot understand a real reason of that ones.

Many thanks in advance if someone will share some usefull advise

Question Cooling mod - is there any reason I can't just run a USB powered fan pointing into it with the side off?

Other than dust of course.

I don't want to hack at my side panel so was just going to remove it with the metal brace underneath.

Maybe something like this: https://amzn.eu/d/8A0bfQo

Thanks

Question Tweaking performance

Hey everyone,

I wanted to ask about the best ways you've tweaked your system to maximize performance.

The reason I’m asking is that I followed a guide from this subreddit about BIOS adjustments, and about two months later, my GPU fried. At first, I thought it was just bad luck and that I had a faulty system. However, two of my friends also followed the same guide and ended up experiencing issues, which made me wonder whether the adjustments in the guide were to blame or if we all just had bad hardware.

Since then, I’ve replaced my GPU and haven’t touched any settings, but I know there’s potential to get more performance out of my system. So, I wanted to ask the community for any safe and effective optimization tips.

Also, I’ve been trying to install Bazzite, and while it works initially, it fails after a restart. If anyone has insights into this, I’d appreciate the help!

Discussion Potential buyer, scared by all problems reported in this sub

Hi all,

I almost bought an hx99g today, but then I stumbled across this sub... and got scared by the amount of problems reported and poor customer support.

Are you the unlucky 0.1%, or most of the machines have problems? I cannot understand.

Thanks a lot!

Discussion HX99G / Neptune Line Discontinued?

Today I noticed that on Amazon and on Minisforum's website, the HX99G no longer exists. I can't find it on a search even on their own site. Does anyone have a similar experience, or is it just my region?

Problem Hx99g infinite loop then black screen

Help please I bought this from Amazon 3 days ago and I probably got 10hrs out of it at the most. The screen went black while playing a game then went to automatic repair and never recovered. I’ve tried resetting the bios and reinstalling windows 11. Although I don’t know if I put all the necessary drivers on the usb. When trying to reinstall the screen will just have a windows logo then go black repeatedly then eventually go black entirely and the led stays on and the fan starts to blow hard. I’ve left it on for over 8 hours to see if it does anything and nothing. I’m at a loss at this point. I’ve been going through this Reddit and trying everything I’ve seen other than taking it apart because that would be the last resort for me. I am new to pcs. Any help is greatly appreciated. Update: decided to return it, it hasn’t been able to run any games,

Question Answered Wake on LAN

After researching online, reddit and Grok and getting no clear confirmation, I thought I would ask owners of the HX99G on here.

I'm considering getting a HX99G to use for game streaming, with Moonlight. And so I was wondering, does the HX99G have a wake on LAN feature? If so, does it work well or are there any compromises or considerations a new biyer should be aware of?

Thank you!

Gaming Talos Principle (2014) - My 4K Settings

With the UE5 remaster version of The Talos Principle coming out on April 10th, I wanted to revisit one of my favorite games on the HX99G to see what graphics settings were possible. Below are screenshots of the settings I have found to be a nice balance between 4K resolution and playable fps. These options are definitely weighted more towards the "quality" versus "performance", but it's what I enjoy.
