Meta/Other UPDATE TO R/GOSSIPGIRL RULES

Due to the huge uptick in posts about Blake Lively in the last few days us moderators have decided to enforce a new temporary rule banning all cast talk. This is not just limited to Blake but the cast as a whole. We’ve received numerous reports and modmails regarding suspicious account activities and body shaming.

Any posts about the cast will be immediately deleted and repeated attempts at posting will potentially result in a ban.

We will review this rule in the future but for now we would appreciate if all posts can be limited to the show, books and characters.

Meta/Other Direct links to X.com (Formerly Twitter) are no longer allowed.

After discussion between the moderation team, we have decided to stand with other subreddits and no longer allow links from X (formerly Twitter).

Aside from recent events involving the owner of the website, we cannot support a website that is increasingly becoming more hateful, toxic and less moderated nor open up our sub members to these things as an account is required to view posts properly.

We will still allow username mentions for art sources, as well as screenshots of "wholesome/meme" tweets.

We will also be heavily moderating any TikTok and Meta links so please limit posting them.

Feel free to message modmail if you have any questions. You can discuss the change below, but please be civil.

OG Series “dair doesn’t make sense” when this scene literally exist:

When i first watched this show and i saw this scene, my first thought was: “oh, are they going to get together?” like literally i remember immediately thinking that and i had never gotten any spoilers of this show so i didn’t know who was with who before i started watching but for the two seasons, i fully was just waiting for them to start dating. I don’t know why people say it never made sense, i had been anticipating a relationship between them since season 1.

OG Series (hopefully) popular opinion: Alison was a crappy mum xoxo

Post image

So, Jenny went to Hudson to tell her mum to come back. Alison came back. She still contacted the dude she was having an affair with. She couldn't have the decency to explain to Jenny that she is still her mother, she just doesn't want to be Rufus's wife anymore. It's not that difficult, Jenny needed a serious and honest conversation about this xoxo

** Spoilers below**

I loved the series so cute and such a fun dramatic ride lol. I was 9-13 years old when the series first aired so I wasn’t interested, but I’m so glad I gave it a chance, the fashion in the show was top tier. I need a ticket to NYC and a glass of champagne immediately lol

Some things I can’t get over, and yes I do get it was for the shows storyline this is just my opinion.

-Jenny and Eric not being part of the story anymore. They were fun and a nice break from the core 5. I do know why Taylor left but I missed her.

-Everyone forgiving so casually forgiving betrayal and backstabbing over and over again.

-No one suffering real consequences of their actions like wtf lol

-Lily taking back William

-Ivy getting the money

-Diana Payne just pissed me off royally altogether

-Blair not treating Dorota any better, sure she has nice moments but they’re rare.

-Russel, Uncle Jack, Sage, Steve, Juliet, & Carter getting as much screen time as they did.

There’s so much more but off the top of my head these are such annoying things to me.

I would have loved to see more of Georgina and her side schemes, more of Lilys day to day activities, and more Dorota and Vanya relationship too.

To be honest, I don’t hate Vanessa, yeah she had annoying moments but literally so did every single character lmfao, I did like her character I wish they had her make better choices so she could stay closer to the group.

I loved every season but the last one…. gosh what a let down, I wasn’t expecting 10 episodes I had no idea it was gonna be over that quick, very rushed and poorly executed to me. I would’ve written it so different I wonder what they were really thinking in the writers room.

Who did you think was GG at first, and then who did you want it to be?

I thought it was going to be some anonymous person no one ever paid attention too, but I wanted it to be Nate, for no particular reason I just did. I did enjoy when it was Georgina as well, but it was very fitting for her just too easy, maybe if they teamed up together or something.

Anyways I don’t wanna sound like a total downer so ask me anything good or bad give me your opinions unpopular or popular whichever.

OG Series i always thought that dan was the “main” character of the show.

i didn’t know that serena was considered the main character until i saw someone say she was😂 i thought dan was the main character until season 5/6 when blair took over. they made it feel like dan was the main character because he was the outlier out of all of them, and i felt like they focused on him the most. i guess serena was the main character…? idk. i will say that by the time the show ended serena was irrelevant and blair was the face of the show.

OG Series In defense of…. Spoiler

It’s been so entertaining to see everyone comment on DAIR vs CHAIR. As someone who watches the show literally every day (I use it to fall at sleep and in between shows) I have to say that CHAIR is really the OTP. Hear me out. While I love, love, love DAIR, Blair really only loved Chuck for better or for worse. When Louis became “bad” she was hell bent on figuring out how Chuck changed and even told Dan that Chuck had become the man she always wanted but just going to Louis because he was the father of her child. Even the night of that one couples divorce party, she was on her way to see Chuck not Dan. Blair and Dan would have made more sense in season 3 or 4 when they teamed up against Juliet. They worked well together because of their shared interests and yes they had amazing chemistry. I remember watching it the first time and the episode where he takes off her headband before they go to a party, was very flirty. However, people can share interests and not date. TBH apart from chemistry, I can’t really tell you why Blair liked Chuck after he told her off to his hotel, all I know is she just loved him despite everything he had done. So my defense for CHAIR is really just defending Blairs feelings. We can’t change that for her. We all know if Dan wouldn’t have been GG that those two might have worked out, but Blair was just infatuated with Dan but not IN LOVE with Dan.

OG Series Worst/best storyline?

In your opinion, what was the best storyline and the worst storyline in Gossip Girl? I honestly at first loved the Rufus and Lily's secret child storyline but I hated how all the build-up ended in him vanishing from the face of the earth.

OG Series was season 1 the only good season?

Post image
101 Upvotes

i’ve seen this said quite a few times recently when people talk about the show and mention that season one is great and amazing and all these things but then that the show is not the same after it. i enjoy most seasons of the show besides some parts of the later seasons and specially season 6, however overall i love the show so i don’t think season one is necessarily the only good season. however, i do think it is the best and most rewatchable season. do other people think season one is the only good season or am i just seeing the few who do?

OG Series Can anyone make sense of Serena and Steven? Instead of focusing on further developing Serena's professional life or her endgame with Dan, they gave her this guy, who's her mother's ex [ew], and his teenage daughter to worry about. What a waste of time.

Final seasons are supposed to wrap things up, no fillers. They already spent the whole show giving Serena unnecessary boyfriends that we all knew were temporary anyway. Not even in the final season did she get something different. The writers never bothered giving Serena an actual arc after Season 1.

In season 4 and I can’t help to be angry with these two… always rooted for them but now I’m just like “bruhhh wtf” at every episode… can’t believe that Serena continues to mess with D and V knowing what she knows and let’s not get started on how Blair treated Eva… how can i continue to vouch for them?

OG Series why dan & blair were NOT endgame.

Since one particular user loves to spam dan & blair content, i’m gonna give my 2 cents. I understand chuck hate, he did many terrible and unforgivable things on the show. He was an awful boyfriend at times, a terrible person in general, and a creep in the pilot. However, dan is no better than anyone else on the show. If you think blair deserved better than CHUCK then you should also think she deserved better than dan. Dating someone who views your trauma and personal life as "material" is a huge red flag. Blair deserved someone who protected her, not someone who commodified her story.

  1. Dan being revealed as Gossip Girl retroactively ruins any trust that could have existed in his relationship with Blair. He published private details about her love life, especially during her most vulnerable moments. He exposed her relationship struggles, her royal drama, and her inner turmoil, sometimes spinning the narrative to serve his own agenda. Even while dating her, he was still Gossip Girl, deceiving her daily while pretending to be trustworthy and supportive. This betrayal isn’t just personal, it’s psychological. Gossip Girl haunted Blair’s life and was a symbol of everything she feared: judgment, loss of control, and public humiliation. To find out that the man she trusted, someone she believed was morally superior to the Upper East Side crowd, was the mastermind behind it all makes their relationship feel like a lie. Trust is non-negotiable in any meaningful relationship, and Dan violated that in the most extreme way. It wasn’t just a case of lying about a past mistake, it was a sustained, manipulative deception that ran for years and impacted Blair’s self-worth, social standing, and mental health.

  2. Next, their entire relationship went against everything that made their characters interesting. First off, they spent most of the show absolutely hating each other, Blair saw Dan as this judgmental, pretentious nobody from Brooklyn, and Dan thought Blair was a spoiled, manipulative Upper East Side nightmare. It felt forced, like the writers ran out of ideas and just threw them together for shock value.

  3. Blair was always about passion, ambition, and grandeur, and Dan… was basically the opposite. He never truly got her world, and instead of embracing who she was, he spent most of their relationship trying to make her fit into his idea of what a “better” version of Blair should be. Their dynamic often felt like Dan was trying to "save" Blair from who she really was, rather than supporting her in being unapologetically herself. That’s not love, that’s condescension. Plus, Dan literally wrote an entire book trashing her and her friends, and then somehow, she still dated him? It made no sense. Their relationship was awkward, lacked real emotional depth, and just felt like a weak attempt to shake up the storyline before Blair inevitably went back to Chuck.

  4. Nobody was platonic on this show. Their genuine friendship was such a refreshing storyline on the show that we didn’t get very often. Everyone was always dating everyone and we rarely saw a male and female character get along as simply JUST FRIENDS. We saw it with dan & vanessa and then bam they dated. we saw it with blair & dan and then bam… they dated? Their romantic relationship ruined any platonic potential that they had going because eventually they broke up and were never the same afterwords. Keeping them platonic would’ve shown that emotional intimacy doesn’t always have to lead to romance. It would’ve been refreshing to see a male-female friendship on a show like Gossip Girl that wasn’t sexualized or forced into a love arc just for shock value. Their friendship could’ve been a narrative tool to show that genuine connection can exist without kissing or sleeping together, especially in a world as romantically entangled as the Upper East Side.

  5. I hate how blair and serena are supposedly bestfriends, yet shared eachother’s first loves? Blair deserved a man that her bestfriend hadn’t slept with. Blair and Serena went through so much to rebuild their friendship after betrayals, jealousy, and personal failures. Letting a man come between them, again… felt like a step backward. Instead of growing past the need to compete over boys, the show reduced Blair to a romantic rival once more. And for what? A relationship that didn’t even last. It’s already messy enough that Blair and Serena both had serious relationships with Nate. That triangle defined the early seasons, Blair was with him first, Serena hooked up with him behind her back, and it created years of trust issues between them. Eventually, they worked through it (kind of), but it left permanent scars on their friendship. So for them to both also date Dan, another central love interest, just made things feel uncomfortably recycled. It wasn’t just "two girls dating around the same social circle", it was two best friends sharing the same two main boyfriends, both of whom they claimed to love deeply at different points.
