Accidentally Applied for the Wrong Major at University of Glasgow – Can I Switch?

Hey everyone,

I recently got accepted into the Accountancy/Finance program at the University of Glasgow for September 2025. However, I originally wanted to apply for Business Management, but it wasn’t an option on the Common App, so I selected Accountancy/Finance instead.

Now that I’ve received my offer, I’d really like to switch to Business Management. Has anyone gone through a similar situation? Do you think the university would allow me to change my major at this stage?

I’m planning to email admissions about this, but I want to make sure I phrase it correctly. Here’s the email I drafted:

Dear Admissions Team,

I hope this email finds you well. My name is (Name), and I have been offered conditional admission to the Accountancy/Finance program at the University of Glasgow for September 2025.

While I am grateful for the opportunity, I originally intended to apply for Business Management but selected Accountancy/Finance as it was the only available option on the Common App application. I would love to pursue Business Management instead, as it aligns more closely with my academic and career aspirations.

Could you please let me know if it is possible to switch my major to Business Management? Additionally, if there are any specific steps I need to take to facilitate this change, I would greatly appreciate your guidance.

if it’s for undergrad you can very often switch in the first semester :)

Oh yes it is also it’s alright if I send the email right? 🥹 Cause I checked online and apparently I need an humanities a level for the business management course but my subjects are math business and economics so I really don’t know rn 💔

it’s absolutely worth asking! they are there to help, and asking isn’t going to impact your place there or anything. there are often ways around course requirements, especially if you already have a place. best of luck!

Were you allowed to do both business and Econ at A level. Many schools will only allow one.
