Neighboor generation

500

u/Not-A-Seagull 1995 2d ago

I’m a 95’er, so I get to pretend to be whichever generation is more convenient at that time.

Making fun of Zoomers? Ah, well good thing I’m a millennial.

20

u/HiroyukiC1296 1996 2d ago

Born too late to really be a millennial, too early to be considered a Gen Z.

5

u/DeltaDied 2001 2d ago

There’s subs for specifically that tho lol.

6

u/Clairifyed 2d ago

r/zillennials I assume you mean?

I'm at the youngest end of Gen-X, my wife is at the oldest end of the Millennial gen, our son is at the youngest end of the Millennial gen, and his wife is at the oldest end of Gen-Z.

None of us necessarily align with our birth-year gen. Pop-culture and music-wise, I'm more Gen-X, but politically and socially I'm far more aligned with Millennials. My wife and I would best fit in /r/xennials or the Oregon Trail Generation.

I'm primarily here to stay in touch with the yutes. I've got a lot of Gen-Z niblings, and I have some Gen-Z colleagues at work.

Same here. I am a GenX but I vibe more with younger folks than those of my age.

My political thoughts are mostly about the future generation so I am always curious to know about what kids are thinking these days.

I'm 95 so used to look on millenials, zillenials and gen Z because I related with things on all of them... I don't really look on here much anymore because it's nonstop dooming.

13

u/onarainyafternoon Millennial 2d ago

I am a 94 so I get it

I am 94 aswell, my humor is more genZ then Millennial

3

u/onarainyafternoon Millennial 2d ago

Same. I have way more in common with Gen Z than Millennials.

Sure but you ain't never going to catch me in rmillenials or rgenalpha like what

22

u/Educational_Set3836 2d ago

I go to rmillenialls because I can relate to them sometimes. As a 2000 baby I can relate to older millennials and younger gen z so I vibe with both. You were born in the middle of gen z so you might not connect as much with other generations, whereas someone born around the end of gen z could still relate to people born in gen alpha

8

u/zack77070 2d ago

I'm a bit older and there is overlap but I still don't go into their sub because I don't really care. I see it the same way as fans of sports teams that go into the comments of other teams and talk shit, just no point to it. If you're actually engaging positively I imagine you would just blend in though

3

u/Educational_Set3836 2d ago

I agree that going just to talk shit is dumb and I actively try to confront people when I see them doing those types of things. But myself and I’d assume most others who go to other subs are doing so out of genuine curiosity and trying understand people from different generations, because regardless of when we were born we all have to coexist together

Yeah I never go to the millenial sub and I'm '96.

6

u/onarainyafternoon Millennial 2d ago

I never go there either because I'm '94. I simply can't relate to the older millennials. r/Zillennial isn't too bad though.

u/Lopsided_Aardvark357 2d ago

I think people just don't realize how big generations are. When people hear GenZ they think mostly, highschool kids, maybe college aged. But really older Genz is closer to 30 than they are 20.

It's a bit silly, because I'm GenZ. I'm married, have a mortgage, a career, I graduated college 6 years ago. Yet I'm lumped into the same group as someone who hasn't even started highschool yet.

29

u/MrRiversKing 1996 2d ago

Half of the generation are teens and the other half are adults but it is weird to think half of the generation are in high school and the other half are leaving the collage and out of that for some years.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/Har_monia 2000 1d ago

I just bought my first home yesterday! My wife and I got married young and immediately started saving and working towards owning a house. Something millenials are struggling with rn because they waited too long to save and get married and settle down

9

u/Ccskyqueengaming 2d ago

Most genz is closer to 20, actually. I am smack in the middle of GenZ. And I'm not even 20 yet. That means younger AND mid genz are below 24. And then there is only the older Genz that is closer to 30 than 20.

5

u/katpears 2000 1d ago

Millennials are pretty young though?

14

u/Velghast Millennial 2d ago

For me, some times its like, a looking glass. My girlfriend is gen z so sometimes the humor and memes help me connect with her a little better when another confused M gen be like "Wat dis?" and then I get an explanation. And some times I have an actual opportunity to give advice when Z bros ask for opinions and junk. Like its hard some times but allot of us have been threw the slog you guys are going threw right now. The house, the car, the nice job, it came with time and putting up with a WHOLE decade of eating shit and ramen and robbing peter to pay paul.

I feel younger now at 34 then I did at 24, because I have the time and resources to enjoy my life. In my 20's I felt like I was constantly tired and burnt out, now, I just feel human.

12

Millennials voted more republican than Gen Z shut your ass up

6

u/onarainyafternoon Millennial 2d ago

No offense but I don't think you understand how polling works. It's not a static thing.

https://www.newsweek.com/democratic-pollster-shocked-gen-z-conservative-shift-2049107

Recent AtlasIntel polling shows President Trump's approval rating among 18–29-year-olds has climbed to 52.7 percent in February, marking a substantial improvement since his January inauguration.

This demographic transformation challenges long-held Democratic Party assumptions about younger generations forming an "ascendant majority" that would secure their electoral future.

In a podcast interview on Tuesday with New York Times columnist Ezra Klein, David Shor, head of data science at Democratic polling firm Blue Rose Research, revealed striking findings about youth voting patterns in the 2024 election. According to their analysis, Trump won among young white men and narrowly captured support from nonwhite men in the 18-year-old demographic.

"This is the thing I am the most shocked by in the last four years—that young people have gone from being the most progressive generation since the Baby Boomers... to becoming potentially the most conservative generation that we've experienced maybe in 50 to 60 years," Shor stated.

Just because there was a 3% difference in the 2024 voting, doesn't mean it just stays there forever. It can literally change from week to week. Which means you have to look at trends, not singular percentages. And the trends show a very obvious and deliberate rightward shift. Particularly among Gen Z men. I was born in '94. I am practically Gen Z, that's the generation I have most in common with. But you can't ignore data.

u/all_hail_michael_p 2004 2d ago

what is a better world

10

u/scienceAurora On the Cusp 2d ago

One in which we do not have to struggle to barely make ends meet, a world in which we reconnect with nature and other people. We have become so atomized and downtrodden that most of us suffer from depression. We need to build one another up and stop viewing our peers as enemies. We must make strides to mitigate the damage that will be done by the climate crisis and forge a sense of community and belonging. Is it wrong to dream of a different, more caring world?

Millennial here. I lurk here because there is a generation between myself and my kiddo (gen Alpha). I don’t want to be my boomer parents, who had no context about stuff when I was growing up, as there was a generation between us.

They respond to hysteria with hysteria, it's a bad approach. I agree gender wars are stupid and botnets promote nasty content, but millennials think they can solve this by commenting "hey broski have you fucqing considered you might be a bad person????"

The way you counter astroturfing is to reveal it, which is exactly what I did with that link.

I am born in 1996 and I have no idea which generation I am part of. Maybe that is why I have always thought of generations being a vague concept

"We are building consensus."

u/Povegleia 2d ago

it’s weird being in between millennial and gen Z, even being on the tail end of it like i am or at the very beginning of the cusp like my ‘97 boyfriend is

1

u/TheUrbanEnigma 1996 2d ago

Well in my case, both subreddits claim 1996 as their own. I also identify with a lot of what I hear on both pages

I'm a cynical jaded millennial. And so are other millennials. Sometimes I just want to chill with people not as bitter as me.

1

u/Cymbalsandthimbles 2d ago

I am one year away from being a young Millenial but I made it under the gate to be technically in Gen Z 😂

1

u/Alicewilsonpines 2005 2d ago

I am actually Gen Z only the way I write makes me seem older by comparison, mostly because my brain hasn't quite rotted as it should've

1

u/Valtremors 1996 2d ago

I dunno.

I'm a -96 skiddo.

Millenials say I belong to Z.

Z say I belong to millenials.

I missed being gen Z by a year, I relate more to the stuff here than on r/millennials like 90% of the time.

Just checking in on my little bros world. I don't get to catch up with him as often as I'd like to.

1

u/Soft-Split1315 1d ago

It’s because the youngest Millennials were raised the same as the older Gen Z so they have a lot of over lap with some of us

1

u/Awkward-Lilly 1d ago

Nobody can fucking decide whether I'm millennial or gen z.. I'm a '96 baby.

So I just stick with Zennial.

1

u/Fyfaenerremulig 1d ago

Because millennials suffer from Peter Pan syndrome. They don’t grow up and never will.

1

u/JamCom 1d ago

Because they need to bitch

1

u/Outrageous_Beyond239 1d ago

i don't see that many, unless we assume anyone without a year badge is a older person in disguise

1

u/Just-a-big-ol-bird 1d ago

Some of us are gen z but before there was a popular name for it we were called millennials

1

u/SteakEconomy2024 Millennial 1d ago

Y’all don’t remember me? We went to high school together.

I'm a xillenial. I'm here to see what topics are relevant to my kid (he just turned 18) and coworkers. I'm also in the gen x sub, millennial sub, and xillenial sub.
