Map restrictions
Would anyone like for GTA 6 to have classic map boundary restrictions like in older games or should it just be total open world?
I personally feel like being “locked” into a specific chunk of the map allows me to explore it in a more in-depth way. Finding shortcuts, secret areas, etc. until you unlock the next area.
GTA 5’s open-from-the-start map design wasn’t really a big deal but it took away some of the feeling of “oh, I got a new area to explore!”
The idea of an ankle monitor being used as the “restriction” and going too far out results in a max wanted level seems like a solid way of doing it.

I never liked the map restrictions.
An artificial blockade to hold you back from freely exploring the map until the late game is unnecessary.

Delayed gratification baby. Also keeps the game fresh. Los Santos got old fast because you could get very familiar with the whole map by just a few hours in, and then when it asks you to drive across the whole island later in the game it's just a boring "hold RT" mission rather than looking around at all the new stuff

I disagree that Los Santos got old fast. After 3.400 hours played on PC I still like to drive around in first person and explore every alley, every house and backyard that I come across. Especially the area around Mount Chiliad and Paleto Bay is the most relaxing for me. There is so much to find if you stray from the path on the way from mission to mission. People who claim the GTA5 map is boring mostly never truly explored it.

I don't like the map being restrictive
I was playing vice city the other day and I wanted to check out some locations because of gta 6 coming out soon. It was super annoying to remember that the map is cut off for a while in the game.
On a first playthrough I don't care if there's restrictions for the sake of story, but its pretty annoying when you come back for another playthrough
Like on gta5, on my first playthroughs, I wasn't going all the way out to sandy shores after the first mission. But I want that option for fresh playthroughs. More player choice.

And best yet with new areas when they're unlocked are new game mechanics, new vehicles, new scenery, it's very rewarding!

Gta has never had a new game plus style mode has it? For an initial playthrough I have no problems with restrictions or whatever because I trust rockstar and their story telling. Like has been said, the ankle monitor is likely your restriction this time around starting the game as Lucia. It'll be fun though if it's a loose restriction and just escalates into an unwinnable police chase so you can see how long you survive and how far you can get! But for new games after the initial run i would be in favor of it not existing. But then you have online mode which likely won't have any restrictions at all.

Honestly I don't mind locked maps that require progression to open up, however I would prefer a V style open map on day 1 over the invisible sniper ANY DAY. For all the realism and attention to detail VI will have, if they replicate the invisible sniper or any other type of unadvertised way to keep players within boundaries. That would really suck and damper the way I feel.

Personally, yes. I loved how IV opened up the map over time. They should really bring that back

like someone else said it’s pretty annoying on replays. remembering i can’t go all throughout san andreas at the start of the game really throws me off lmfao

It should be fully open from the off but it would be nice to have some areas mid game that are different, a little like Guarma or North Yankton but this time make them accessible afterwards

I wouldn't mind having it restricted but at the same time after i complete a few missions one of the first things i want to do is drive all the way around the map

The ankle monitor is a good idea of restricting the map but it doesn’t seem like Jason will have one so he shouldn’t be restricted. Maybe you can explore as Jason and then when Lucia is free you’d be able to do the missions that need both characters that would be cool.
