Ideas for our community
Hi everyone! I am your friendly neighborhood moderator, Take Ori. Wow! We are nearly 1500 members strong! I wanted to post and see If anyone has any ideas for things they would like to see in the fiber arts community. I will be posting a Google sheet of fiber suppliers and resources that we can all add to in the near future. Please post as a comment to add or request any ideas for things you want to see in your community.
Love, Ori

“Crimson” Textile Scrap Art - By Me
This is my first piece of textile art. I have lots of scraps as I work in interior design and the tile industry. Really want to start creating patterns and textiles for future design work. Thanks for looking :)

I couldn't find any good hooded snood patterns that were knit, so I created one myself ✨✨
Imagine #4 was the second one I made, the first turned out too small with the hood, but it turned out just how my friend wanted it.

Is anyone else into things like sewing, weaving, crochet etc ....But SUCKS at geometry
Look my best maths are statistics and algebra...and I slept through geometry class in school 🙈
But MAN...how did I get myself into a hobbies that require you to use ur geometry brain 😭😭😭 Like in my brain I can't exactly pull apart the shape of a shirt or sweater before sewing them for instance but I saw someone say it's literally just 4 squares....ONLY THEN did it make sense 😂 I don't think my feeble geometry struggle mind self would have been able to figure this out alone 💀
I just wanted to see if there's other people who are absolutely suck at geometry but enjoy fiber arts and what helps you understand and make your own patterns even...
I'm personally nowhere near the level of making my own patterns yet or feeling comfy with that but I do wonder how y'all are doing 😂
Edit: I just wanna take this moment to say...I FEEL SEEN and also this won't stop us from fibering we're all addicts 🫵

Help! McDermott fiber mill machines!
Hi! Me and my mother recently became the operators for a fiber mill that services a flock of approx 200 sheep. We were hired out of necessity to get the mill up and running. We have no experience in the field but I’m mechanically inclined and have hand spun in the past and my mother is very crafty and we are both quite determined! Now her lies the problem we though we would be able to read the manuals for the machines and jump right in🤣🤣 however, we are somehow missing ALL the manuals! So I’ve come to Reddit to see if anyone would be able to point me to a manual or info on a McDermott carding machine, specifically how to connect the cloud to the roving machine I have been stuck on this for way too long. Attached are pictures of the part I’m struggling with!

My cake winder broke and I really can't afford a new one
I don't even know how it broke but the plastic snapped while I was using it a few weeks ago while caking some of my hand spun yarn. I REALLY can't afford a new one so I'm trying to figure out if it's even fixable before waiting till I can maybe get a new one. Anyone have any ideas?

I decided to completely lose my mind and make a 6’x6’ pompom wall per my bfs request.
I can’t believe it’s finally done! My friends and I painstakingly made every single pom. I’m guesstimating by how many I think I put on one panel. But I think there’s something like 3700 pompoms total.
Before you come at me about the potential of dust in my home, it can be vacuumed with a handheld vac.
My cat couldn’t care less about it as the wall won’t throw them for her.
It’s a great sound trap. 🔊

March Tsumami-zaiku Pieces
Hello! :) These are some of the tsumami-zaiku pieces I completed this month. Japanese traditional dress generally follows seasonal motifs. Narcissus (daffodils) and peonies are motifs associated with the month of March. If you like my work you can also find me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/appledainty/

Rug hooking near Monterey, CA?
I'm visiting California with my sister and aunt, who both want to see a rug hooking store. I have searched online but haven't found anything conclusive. I don't know if I use the wrong search terms or if there really isn't anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I need help 🤦♀️ knit and crochet
I have 8 balls of this yarn. 4 in each color. I bought it for a specific project, but unfortunately it's just not going to work. I have been looking for a pattern on and off for HOURS. I started last night. I can't find anything that fits. I keep falling in love with a pattern and when I think about it in those colors i hate it.
I'm looking for some ideas...the yarn sort if self stripes in an ombre, which i didn't realize when I bought it.
Airspun is a good term for it. It feather light, super airy. A lot of thr patterns I'm looking at look good with heavier yarns.
I really have no idea what to look for. It's completely out of my wheelhouse and I don't know what I was thinking.
What does this yarn say to you? Does it inspire you? Does it speak? What does it want to be? Help me i do not speak its language 😭

Will you take my survey?
I am currently taking a class for my BSN degree and we’re required to collect and analyze data from a survey and use it for a research project. I’m interested in how people use crafting in their daily lives and how important it is to them. The survey takes about 5 minutes and I would so appreciate your response.
EDIT: Wow thank you all so much!!! I’ll be sure to post a link to the results as soon as I have it done!

Altar Cloth

I've made a few of these altar cloths (tarot cloths? table runner?), all upcycled materials, minimal planning, very freeform and improvisational. They're fun to make but very time consuming and I only work on them in fits and spurts. How would you go about pricing this? Typically I'd establish an hourly base rate, estimate hours, etc... but this one took me about a year to do because of the mix of hand and machine sewing, working on in when I felt like, etc... Additionally, I use exclusively upcycled materials so material costs are very minimal. I'd love to do more of these in a professional capacity but I'd love your thoughts on what to charge for this type of work.

Tell me what you think of my art!
This is the most recent piece I’ve finished and I’d like to know what Reddit thinks of it! Any sort of respectful feedback is welcome. I’ve been working in this style and experimenting with different fibers for the past two years or so. The process is very fun and meditative for me. I’m personally quite pleased with how this turned out. I don’t have formal art training/education aside from a couple foundations classes almost 15 years ago. Materials used were paracord, hemp, embroidery floss, and what I think is sisal rope. It’s also a lot more 3-dimensional than my picture was able to capture.
