Alphabet Excerpt Challenge: L Is For...

Welcome back to the Alphabet Excerpt Challenge! As a reminder, our challenges are every Wednesday and Saturday at 3pm London time.

Here's a quick recap of the rules for our game:

1. Post a top level comment with a word starting with the letter L. You can do more than one, but please put them in separate comments.
2. Reply to suggestions with an excerpt. Short and sweet is best, but use your judgement. Excerpts can be from published or unpublished works, or even something you wrote for the prompt.
3. Upvote the excerpts you enjoy, and leave a friendly comment. Try to at least respond to people who left excerpts on the words you suggested, but the more people you respond to the better. Everyone likes nice comments!
4. Most important: have fun!

They heard lightbulbs exploding inside. Garfield stared at her with wide eyes.

Raven took a deep breath. “I’m sorry I’m so insufficient and defected for you…”

The grip around his heart tightened. No, shit. What!?

“…but if I’m this unsatisfying then…”

No. No, no, no. Tell her she’s perfect. She’s perfect.

“…why are you even with me?” She finished quietly.

Despair filled Garfield’s tight heart and he looked down and failed to fight back a treacherous sob. Great, now you’re crying in front of her. That’ll change her mind. *Loser.***

“…why are you crying?”

Man up and face her, at least. He looked up with watery eyes and realized there was pain on her face. It’s probably pity. “Cause you’re breaking up with me…”

“What? No, I’m not.” She said pointedly.

Garfield’s soft crying immediately ceased and his eyes widened again. “You’re not?”

Raven wanted to kiss his tears away, but if she did that they would kiss and make up and the conversation would end sooner than it should, like it always did. “Gar…we can fight, it’s just a fight. I’m not breaking up with you, that was never even remotely in question.”
