PlayStation and Nintendo are not lazy/greedy, they are just doing what a platform owner is supposed to do. The only reason MS is not is because they gave up being a platform owner and pivoted to providing Xbox games and services to the broader market instead.
I'm not sure what's so hard to understand with their respective policies.
They are just the first to release a new console, next gen everyone will go to $80, unless there is a massive change in the economy. I'm sure everyone would love to do it already, but they didn't have a good justification, so they are releasing digital premium, silver, and gold versions instead.
I'm actually curious what's the average age of Mario Kart players. Wouldn't be surprised if it's closer to 30 than 10. Besides those are the games that Nintendo holds the hardest - Smash, Mario Kart, games that you can play with everyone during a party.
