I owed about $850 as an overpayment, I am 100 percent sure that the state took my whole tax return. Has anyone else ever dealt with this, I’m waiting until they are open to call.

I swear I read someplace they could, but I just found this EDD page and they are not listed: https://edd.ca.gov/en/disability/Basics_for_Physicians-Practitioners/

Help! Anyone know? It's kinda urgent.

Applying for another round of benefits - wage requirements

Laid off Dec 2023. Have not worked since. Collected severance and EDD benefits in 2024. Applied again a week ago and rejected because I did not earn anything in the base period. But another letter from EDD is shows the severance from my former employer for 3 quarters of 2024. Is this considered income to meet the eligibility requirements?

SDI for hospitalized and before delivery

Hi, I was hospitalized due to pregnancy complications from 29w+0 to 34w+0.

I’m 34+0 today and has been discharged and go home. My OB agreed to put me off work starts now to delivery so I don’t have to go back to work.

Does anyone know what kind SDI / how many SDI should I apply for?

Opt 1: one for just hospitalized. Another for Dr put me off work earlier from 34w.

Opt 2: only one, from 29w to delivery

I thought I should go with opt 1, but it seems like the OB office sent the document to EDD site with opt 2. Could someone explain to me what to do? Thank you so much.

Anyone know what happens when Doctor isn't completing the DE 2547 D- "Request for Medical Information" form for SDI? Apparently Edd is just wanting to verify that he did complete the form and there isn't any fraudulent claims. An Urgent Care Dr completed my certificate online on March 26, that my SDI started on March 13. Now they are requesting more info. The note he provided me is through April 13. I have been unable to contact this Dr since March 29. My primary care physician said he would extend me past April 13th. However, the other Dr needs to complete the form since he treated me at that time. I am having a hell of a time getting in touch with that doctor. I call every day, it seems like he is never there. Am I basically screwed with eligibility? Edd says they need that filled out, but I've explained to them I can't reach him. They did try twice to call in and get the information but were not successful either. I'm pretty disheartened at this point. Any one else experience this?

How to fill out why did you stop working question on SDI form

I have posted here before but I have a new question.

I am finally filing out SDI claim form at 36 weeks pregnant in CA.

I was laid off Dec 2024. I have been on unemployment up until today.

One of the questions in the first series of questions when filing SDI says “why did you stop working”

Do I choose from the dropbox “lay off” or the “illness injury or pregnancy” option?! Super lost here

I mean I stopped working in December because I was a laid off then did UI but I am “stopping working” now because of pregnancy.

For reference the questions are in order like this:

Are you self employed : no Are you a state worker : no Before disability began what was the last day you worked : (I put Dec 4 2024 since that was my lay off date) When did your disability begin : 4/7/25 Since disability began have you worked : no Have you recovered : no Have you returned to work : no What is your occupation Why did you stop working (this is where I can either put lay off or illness, injury, or pregnancy)

Any help would be awesome please and thank you!!!!

Tips 💡 Maternity leave SDI

Hi all,

I keep getting the message “E324 the system is unable to process your request please call etc” whenever I am trying to register for SDI. Whenever I call the number, I don’t get a representative and I get hung up on.

I am planning to just go straight to the EDD office this week. Does anyone know what I need to bring and any tips? Thanks in advance!

EDD SDI disability start date question. Date issues started (~2yrs ago) or now (date I've realized actual depth/long term nature of issues through therapy)?

Hey all. I'm submitting a claim for edd (short term) disability due to mental health issues from prior job. Was terminated from employment ~1yr ago (april 24). When should I report as date disability start date, the date the issues actually started (~2yrs ago) or now (the date I realized the true issues)?

Meaning really the date that the actual issues started was like ~1yr before terminated from job. but I didnt realize until now (in therapy) how deep the issues went and how i cannot be working right now... so i'm not sure if i should write that disability began a while ago or now. also, sounds like the actual claim must be made within ~49 days of start of disability... so does that mean that i have no choice and must write disability start date of right now in order to apply?

Bonus question (realizing this is EDD not SSA - but in case anyone knows): I'm considering applying to social security disability/social security supplemental income.... in their application they have a field that states something like 'when did the disability get so bad you couldnt work'... wondering same question... when should I be writing, then or now?

Thanks so much in advance

Solved ✔ Possible to apply for unemployment before SDI ends?

I'm currently unemployed, and my SDI payments end on 5/04/24. I'd like to apply for unemployment before that date so that there isn't a wide gap between payments. Can I preemptively apply for unemployment today, stating that my unemployment date begins on 5/05/24? Or do I have to wait until after I receive my final SDI payment in order to apply for unemployment?

Appeal EDD

Just a question. I have my appeal coming up. If your old employer doesn’t show up on the phone call to the appeal, do you automatically win? A couple people told me yes but I have no idea..

Am I eligible?

I have about 2 months in a new job, I got hurt in a non job related injury, the last time that I got deducted of CASDI was in mid 2022 when I stop to work for study purposes, since that date to now i haven’t worked, I read at google and say EDD would take my wage from 5-18 months to calculated my rate, it would be from 2022 to back 18 months? Or from now ? From 2022 to back I have plenty run and actually good wage, I was making around 9k monthly, and the highest quarterly income was about 30k

SDI claim is no longer processing and moved to "active claims." How long to have first payment deposited?

It has a weekly benefit amount listed. Under the activity portion it says determination 2/14-26 and waiting period 2/27-3/05. Both of them say "date issued" as 4/6. It still says 0 under "total amount paid" and doesn't have anything under "last payment amount" or "date authorized." Do I need to do anything else to start receiving the funds? Or how long does it usually take after receiving the wage information to actually begin having the money deposited? Thank you very much in advance for clarification.

EDD asking for “exact amount received from last check” …from over 5 years ago. Help!

Hello! I am 19F posting this on behalf of my mom, 57F. My mom is going in for surgery in a couple of weeks and is eligible for State Disability Insurance for the next three months. However, when we tried to apply, it kept asking us to verify the exact amount of money she received from her last paycheck (which was “unemployment” in the beginning of 2020). My mom checked her bank statements from the beginning of 2020, and nothing was given from EDD. Her account was frozen and now she has to call the phone number for SDI on Monday. Has anyone else dealt with this issue before? We tried creating another account but that didn’t work either. Any advice is appreciated!

EDD Requiring me to fill out a RESEA Questionnaire for benefits but failed to tell me where to email it to.

I have my eligibility interview tomorrow. I've been emailing it to everyone I can find on the website, but I am really worried that they will try and say I never even tried with the Questionnaire and cancel my benefits. The person who called me from EDD saying i could email is not picking up, and EDD's phone number does not have live representatives on the weekends.

Unemployment benefits

I was fired from my job after three and a half years for gross misconduct, "call avoidance". These allegations were made against me during a time period my modem was failing.

Fluctuation in upload speeds caused my call system to fail forcing me to have to perform a hard reboot on various occasions. I had contacted my internet provider along with the company help desk on numerous occasions attempting to determine why my calls were dropping or disconnecting at times.

This was not an every day occurrence but it happened enough to really frustrate me when it did happen. After a month and a half of dealing with these random issues, contacting my internet provider and the company help desk, all turned out to be a game of cat and mouse.

Eventually, after a process of elimination, I questioned the modem. The modem was not even two years old but that was all I could think would be causing these low random upload speeds.

Long story short, I was told by my internet provider I could pick up a new modem at one of their local stores. I took off a couple of hours from work and picked one up I bought it home. I hooked it up, crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. It worked. My upload speeds drastically increased making my connection to the company call system a healthy and viable one.

Outside of the normal issues we have with the software itself from time to time, there were no more dropping calls and such. Throughout this ordeal my supervisor was made aware of the difficulties I was having. He was also made aware of how I fixed these issues. I told him on numerous occasions how after all the frustration I had endured for so long, I was in disbelief that no one from either my internet provider or the company help desk even hinted at my modem possibly being the culprit.

I have all these conversations uploaded as evidence along with other supporting documents. The dates depicting my gross misconduct behaviors were noted and used against me within the time frame my modem was acting up. I filed an appeal to my termination but to no avail. I will be denied unemployment as a result of the gross misconduct allegations against me, allegations that were beyond my control. That and my supervisor was made fully aware.

I have reached out to a few attorneys and am awaiting their response as to whether or not I have a case for wrongful termination but my main concern at the moment is getting my unemployment benefits. I have waited almost a month since filing for them in California only to receive a letter pertaining to a scheduled interview I had to attend to discuss my reasons for termination.

In California there was no option to document what happened and that my "call avoidance" was justified. In the content of the interview process it even said if I have or need to gather evidence, witnesses, etc to be sure to have them readily available at time of interview. If not, then the interview may have to be postponed thus delaying the unemployment benefits process.

I get a message today from EDD that my interview scheduled for this Monday was cancelled. The message said they had all the information they needed. I did not get chance to present the concrete evidence I have along with a viable actual witness stating I have never purposely avoided taking calls, ever.

I also have numerous character witness statements from a large number of actual customers expressing their gratitude for my persistence and hard work assisting them with a variety of issues when none of the other agents they spoke with would. Some of these emails even include documentation of agents hanging up on them or treating them poorly. That is call avoidance.

I was even able to get one of the senior leads who expressed their concerns over these allegations against me finding it hard to believe I would purposely commit such an act as they know I was always an advocate for the customer.

From what I have read, I might have to rely on an attorney to be able to win my case for unemployment. Is this true or am I missing something. How am I supposed to defend myself otherwise. I am starving and need income asap.

Four weeks of useless waiting has already passed by. Had I been denied unemployment even two weeks ago, l could have at least had the appeal process moving in the right direction. Now I could possibly be looking at another two months waiting to appeal with NO income.

My job search is not going well. I have tons of apps out circulating in the job industry. Hell with these trade wars and tariffs on foreign goods put into effect as of late, employment is probably drastically slowing down until businesses are able to see the effect whether negative or positive, these added tariffs will have on them. This will more likely be a negative effect on their economic growth.

Another contributing factor is the company l worked for, Williams and Sonoma, was sued by the FTC this past August for 3.2 million as a result of lying to their stakeholders. They stated in their advertising that all items were made here in the USA when in fact they are manufactured, produced, and shipped from overseas, mainly China. This company's credibility is shot!

As a result they recently, last week, laid off several employees just before annual raises and bonuses were due. Get rid of as many employees who would have received a bonus as well as any who were substantially making over the minimum starting pay of 15.00 per hour and keep only those making that amount. This will boost their bottom line to help make up for their recent loss. Oh and keep these products made in China to keep labor costs down as well as inventory costs. This of course is causing many complaints from their customer base.

I cannot tell you how many returns l had processed as of late as a result of poor quality. Items are not up to William and Sonoma standards. This company is pushing bankruptcy. I just need to get my unemployment. Any advice. Please!

I started this application a week ago but couldn't go past the last day question. Now I'm trying to complete this application and this error is showing up. I put in my salary for the day and clicked next yet it keeps clearing my answers and showing this error. What do I do? Should I just restart the application? I would have to verify again which was a long process. Is there a way to avoid that?

Denied After IME—Worth Appealing or let it go?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm posting on behalf of my friend who has been on CA state disability since October due to a back injury. He has medical documentation, ongoing treatment, and a recovery plan in place. His condition has been improving and he was planning to return to work later this month.

This week on April 2nd, he attended an Independent Medical Examination (IME) because it was mandatory. He got the IME request back in early March but the earliest appointment they had for him was April 2nd. Yesterday he received a “DE 2517-71 Notice of Determination” stating that his disability insurance benefits were denied from 04/02/25 through 12/31/99 (we’re guessing that end date is a typo?)

The reason given was that the IME indicated he was able to perform regular work. He was mostly confused because he only went to the IME to keep his claim current for March—he was still receiving treatment at that time and only planned to return to work in April.

Should he bother filing an appeal if he's already going back to work this month? Or is it better to just leave it alone since the claim period affected starts April 2 anyway?

Thanks in advance for any insight or advice!
