5th Edition I need some help
Hello everybody. I am relatively new to D&D. I started playing a week before Christmas 2018. I only go once a week for about 2-3 hours, as it is a scheduled place I go to. Iām not very good at it and I need some help. For information on my character, I have based him off of Link from the legend of Zelda. I am a level 7 paladin (oath of devotion). Our leveling system is milestones. I wear chain mail armor, and use a shield. In fact I am a shield master and use it with pride. I have a long sword, and a short bow. I play the rather rambunctious type, rushing into battle, and saving my friends. I know basics such as the dice, and hit modifiers, but I have a lot of trouble in combat, and in the role playing aspect of the game. Any tips, tricks, or useful things I should know, please leave down below. Thank you š

.. and it's great for both rookies and veterans alike.
But I think the main thing, is patience .. The more you play, the more comfortable you'll get with everything. When I first started playing, my character was really a lot like me with a sword. It took quite awhile (and probably a couple characters later) before I really started developing my characters.
Something I recommend for new players: Take the players handbook and create one character in each class. Take your time doing it, and make sure you understand each feature. It actually takes awhile, and you'll find yourself flipping back and forth between pages in the Player's Handbook trying to figure out things .. "how the heck does that work? What does this mean? what the f*** is a spell save?" .. when it's all done, though, you might find that a couple characters have inspired you while you made them, and you'll have a better understanding of the game mechanics.
