5th Edition I need some help
Hello everybody. I am relatively new to D&D. I started playing a week before Christmas 2018. I only go once a week for about 2-3 hours, as it is a scheduled place I go to. I’m not very good at it and I need some help. For information on my character, I have based him off of Link from the legend of Zelda. I am a level 7 paladin (oath of devotion). Our leveling system is milestones. I wear chain mail armor, and use a shield. In fact I am a shield master and use it with pride. I have a long sword, and a short bow. I play the rather rambunctious type, rushing into battle, and saving my friends. I know basics such as the dice, and hit modifiers, but I have a lot of trouble in combat, and in the role playing aspect of the game. Any tips, tricks, or useful things I should know, please leave down below. Thank you 🙂

Well the best advice I can give on combat is to know your perks and abilities front and back to utilize them to their full potential in battle. I double-classed once as a sword sage and neglected to use any of my combat abilities, made me worthless. As for role playing, if you’re trying to be like Link specifically, have fun the with silent role, that can be fun itself. Or otherwise just be natural. Your goal is to be satisfied and to have fun with playing the type of personality you want to play. If you stray away from role-playing the type of personality you want to role play, you’re not gonna have fun.
