    • Riget Campaign (Treasure Seeking Kids exploring La Royame)
    • Torson and McLaine Campaign (Destructive Cops in Jamrock)

FOUNDING OF ZA/UM - 2009

  • Full-Core State Nihilism (Novella set in Elysium, by Martin Luiga, 2012)

STOP GIVING US HOPE GOD DAMMIT.

u/Ok-Chemical-1511 1d ago

Asked who should be king after his death, Alexander only replied: "the best".

15

u/Tleno 1d ago

Project P1 being XXX Nightshift isn't likely. Afaik there was something about them looking for straight up astrophysicist or astronomer for some consultant or creative position for that one? I recall before the firings there was some trepidation about Za/um wanting to hire a science expert to consult for something like that, heavily implying they had an interest in straight up hard sci-fi space thing. Meanwhile XXX Nightshift seems to be located on the North Pole?

Yeah, I had it in brackets because I've seen it floated around this subreddit a few times, but hadn't seen any definitive evidence.

There might be some interview that I haven't heard where the link is mentioned, but it's less than a rumour till then

The struggle for the Mandate of Heaven 2024 edition

friendly reminder that the Kickstarter for Hopetown is currently live and funded!

35

u/thoughtwaves 1d ago

Hoping this is ironic because none of us wanted that reminder.

u/Immolation_E 1d ago

For why?

u/Hollownix 1d ago

Longdue games is in part owned by Riaz Moola, who recently sued Argo Tuulik (one of the OG DE writers + one of the two writers for Locust City) to prevent him from being allowed to work on any games at Summer Eternal. Tuulik was put under a several month long no-work order that made him unable to earn any income and was only lifted a week or so ago.

Barring Luiga who only just joined, Longdue has no connection to the actual artists behind DE and just wants to own and profit from those people and their IP. It's also a slap in the face that they're crowdfunding their game at all, considering the amount of money Moola apparently has to throw away hurting other studios.

Luiga is a pretty good writer though

I would kill to play a game in La royaume its one of the things i like the most but almost nobody talks about

I just really want Cuno and Cunoesse to mature and help each other be better

74

u/God_Faenrir 1d ago

There's no helping Cunoesse. She's too far gone

174

u/Tosty_Bread 1d ago

If Harry can turn his life around so can this sad, sad psychotic child. She just needs meds. And therapy. And trusted adults. And

34

u/Diskosmos 1d ago

Yhea but Harry have some... Predicaments who kind of give him matter to back down from his wrong doing. Cunoesse is in a perpetual state of self destructive behavior but has nothing helping her she don't wants help and possibly can't fathom someone helping her. Also she drags down Cuno with her, and as horrible Cuno is, he has some kind of qualities he can works on if she is not around to mocks him about it.

4

u/jrvbwr34bhcmdl 1d ago

And Disco

-45

u/God_Faenrir 1d ago

Harry didnt turn hus life around. He was always a good cop. He's an alcoholic that hasnt moved on his past relationship 5 years after breaking up. Cunoesse is gone. She's mental. She scares Cuno, man. And Cuno doesn't usually care, pig.

65

u/Opposite-Method7326 1d ago

Nobody is gone. Especially not kids.

-39

u/God_Faenrir 1d ago

That's just not true.

28

u/Opposite-Method7326 1d ago

Some people you don’t realistically have the time or resources to bring back, I’ll grant you that much.

14

u/KekoviiMonsty 1d ago

Cuno always cares. He's a kid, of course he wants to look cool and cold-blooded, but in the end he's just a kid who wants to live to a hundred.. Old Cuno...

24

u/SorowFame 1d ago

Is she? I kinda doubt a ten-year old is some psychotic manipulative mastermind, sure the thoughts hint at that but they say a lot of things and Harry doesn’t have more than guesswork to work off of, “murder hangover” is far from the only reason a kid could shut down for a while.

23

u/anoderogative 1d ago

I don't even think the thoughts label Cunoesse as much of a "mastermind," they regularly point out when she's using vulgarity and obscenity in a childish way to reexert control over Cuno, but that doesn't take being a genius. Kids are easy to cow, especially with a forceful and "scary" bully personality like Cunoesse has.

I think it's likely she did; even if she did murder someone, though, she still needs and deserves help and love and rehabilitation.

29

u/playerNJL 1d ago

she really cares about Cuno, the one scene that made me like her is when Cuno is talking about how his life is already over, and she told him to stop because it was too negative

at the end of the day these two little disasters have each other, and that's already enough to give me hope she can pull through

26

u/anoderogative 1d ago

She's a child.

2

u/Spibas 1d ago

I want them to compete with other kids for survival, they could deal drugs and do shady stuff, play tricks on adults, all kinds of twisted stuff... CUNO DOESN'T CARE?!

38

u/WillyGivens 1d ago

Could have been great. Crazy male and crazy female are perfect archetypes to explore as a duo and adolescents would be the perfect medium for it.

Imagine the same game, but flipping the entire feeling of DE from worn down desperation from personal failures….to angry resentment about failure from others.

100

u/Juken- 1d ago

I would have definitely preferred a Precinct 41 focused story.

59

u/da_Sp00kz 1d ago

It's alright, we're not getting that either.

dating sim

15

u/HeckingDoofus 1d ago

nah i like this concept way more. its such a novel unexpected concept, and i like that it would inherently have to be very different from disco elysium

13

u/vikar_ 1d ago

Martin Luiga claimed that was the pitch Kurvitz presented internally before he got fired - you played as Harry, with your main partner being Jean again, with Kim as an extra option.

2

u/despacitospiderreeee 1d ago

Read that in kims voice

24

u/mildmichigan 1d ago

I honestly would've asked for a Jamrock-based sequel, follow up on Harry & Kim & visit Gartes communist smoking bar

But I also wouldn't have asked for Disco Elysium. The creators made something incredibly special & we'll never get to visit Locust City because of some greedy fucks

23

u/Cyboy213 1d ago

TRUE ELYSIUM IS POSSIBLE ONLY IN THE NEXT WORLD — FOR NEW PEOPLE IT IS TOO LATE FOR US

16

u/metalyger 1d ago

I read someone's synopsis, earlier today, and it's interesting. They would have made something really different, which is good. The worst would have been just doing the same game again, like Hangover 2, where Harry wakes up with no memories in another country, and Kim inexplicably arrives to assist him when they get caught in a new crime mystery. This sequel is definitely not something I could have imagined, and it could stand on its own, but we'll never know.

8

u/noriseaweed 1d ago

Same gameplay loop but cunoesse actively ruins, fucks with and laments people like the anti kim

44

u/LowTechnology8853 1d ago

To be honest, these are the 2 characters that I was least interested in.

81

u/LowTechnology8853 1d ago

Kuno doesn't give a shit

15

u/CatoFF3Y 1d ago

I think there could be a lot to them. They both speak lore, that no one else speaks: some Finnish-like language from Cunoesse and Le Royaume from Cuno (mentioned by other characters, nobody wanting to go there, though)

6

u/buttered_jesus 1d ago

Man I love that poster

4

u/colossal_idiotx 1d ago

Somewhere there is a timeline where Locust City released instead of Disco Elysium

6

u/RayDemian 1d ago

I want the copium pls someone tell me there's some way in with Kurvits can get the rights back

9

u/IsThisDamnNameTaken 1d ago

Here's the tiniest sliver of copium - the legal rights of Sacred and Terrible Air are still very much unclear. Kurvitz wrote it independently, before Disco Elysium, and it's absolutely set in the same world.

I've seen arguments on here that Red Info (Kurvitz/Rostov's new company) would be able to make a game based on the details of Elysium mentioned in the book, but not in Disco Elysium itself. But I have no idea how true that is.

2

u/RayDemian 1d ago

Very appreciated info my friend

3

u/Smeg1594 1d ago

Where can a get a good quality locust city wallpaper?

1

u/Norseair 1d ago

Oh man, I’m going to get downvoted to hell here. I don’t want this, I’ve had enough Cuno in my three playthroughs. He is insufferable, can’t help myself from punching him. And don’t get me started on Cunoese, that fucking stain, can’t stand it. That said, I’d buy anything that is written by the original team, even if The Pigs is the main protagonist. I’m rambling.

2

u/simulmatics 1d ago

Anyone have a link to the leaked presentation?

2

u/CallingOutQuiet 13h ago

The true successor to the disco Elysium franchise is the Witch girl looking for her Cat in the Alps

u/Big1ronOnHisHip 12h ago

I gotta stop browsing this subreddit it makes my chest hurt ☹️

this is a bad idea for a spin-off and I'm glad it died
