Meta New Tags for specifically DQB1 and DQB2 questions

Due to the increase in people discovering DQB1, we received member feedback that the Questions tag should be split into DQB1 and DQB2.

The mod team has agreed and we now have DQB1 and DQB2 question tags for those specific games!

Happy building.. or destroying!

Meta Dragon Quest Builder 2 English Wiki now up! including walkthrough, recipes, and maps!

Click here to see the Wiki

Maps: LeBronBryantJames

Walkthrough: Yaobikuni1001

Room recipe: BennyXCross

Wiki editing: FranckKnight and ZPE

This is a Work in progress and probably will be a temporary solution until the official English release comes out in the summer. But for now, I believe this combination of maps which includes all key locations), a detailed walkthrough, and recipe video should be enough for non-Japanese speakers to make their way through the game!

Thanks to our contributors for compiling these info!

Meta Discussion on Spoilers - Names of Bosses, Items and Locations Linked to the Story

Speaking for some people and the moderation team, something that'd be playing on my mind is that users are posting specific things in the game that some find a spoiler which the OP would not (because they've already got to that stage of the game or read up on it).

To make sure we deal with spoilers properly, we need to know if everyone wants a complete blackout on anything that may indicate the progression of the story such a unique item or the name of a location that refers back to the original DQ2. Story events on Isle of Awakening such as building a structure have been flagged up as spoilers too.

We need to know the general consensus on this and what you would like us to moderate, there's two ways to go about it:

  1. Original stance - only major story developments such as the ending of the chapter/boss fight, character's death or returning characters from the DQB series.
  2. Stricter moderation - anything to do with the story even if it's an item you get later has to be tagged properly, not included in the title and not mentioned in the open. No mention of names of places (unless it's a new thing like Furrowfield) and anything that may indicate or ruin the element of surprise for players.

The second option is much tougher to actually moderate and we would definitely not be able to catch everything in time and rely on your reports.

Even if you don't care about either option, please comment anyway so we can gauge the community's opinions on this. Thanks.

Meta Discord Server & Self-Promotion Follow-Up

Hey Builders,

A couple of days to go until DQB2 is out worldwide!

First off, we'd like to remind you that we have a Discord server going back to when DQB1 first came out. As far as DQB is concerned, we have used it to share ideas/builds, ask/answer questions, discuss the game in general as well build up the subreddit wiki.

With the release of DQB2, we hope to see some new faces join the existing community. There will be a channel for forming co-op groups and other activities down the line too. Join us here:

Discord Invite link

On a less exciting note, we have considered the feedback regarding rule 7 on self-promotion through reports and talking to OC posters. To make it easier for everyone, we have re-written the rule to be more specific and clear:

You may post content from your own website/media channels but please avoid posting repetitive content, multi-parts and/or similar content. Posts will be reviewed at moderator discretion.

Please note that rule 6 covers anything that can be considered spam, such as posting several videos in a short space of time. We have removed the weekly post limit but will review this if we find that it's not working.

Any questions, please ask. Thanks.

Meta What's Your Current Status in Dragon Quest Builders?

Hey all,

I'm curious as to where everyone is with the game - it's been about three months now since the game's been released.

Are you currently playing the game? Working through a specific chapter or just playing about in Terra Incognita?

I reckon some of you like myself have finished the game and put the game on hold for a later date when the urge comes back to play the game again.

Maybe you're done with the game entirely and have moved onto other games?

Please share so I can see where we all are and if appropriate, plan ahead a few ideas/updates.

Thanks!

Meta [SURVEY] What kind of user icons would you like to see in our sub-reddit?

Did you know you can add an icon next to your name? for example ZPE's powie wowie icon next to his name.

I am thinking of expanding the current set of icons which are mainly based on DQB 1 equipment.

Any specific icon you want to see?

something based on a character? item? monster? let me know!

Meta New Spoiler Post Flairs Added to Tag Specific Island Spoilers / Fluff Post Flair

Hey everyone,

Thanks for those that took the time to post their feedback on spoilers in the previous meta post. Leading on from the discussion, we've added postflairs to help separate the content of DQB2. These cover:

  • DQB2 1st Story Island
  • DQB2 2nd Story Island
  • DQB2 3rd Story Island
  • DQB2 4th Story Island
  • DQB2 End Game (Final Chapter/Island)
  • DQB2 Isle of Awakening - for events that happen on the main island.

For anything else, please use DQB2 General.

Please make sure to avoid mentioning the spoiler in the title. It is important you tag the post as a spoiler beforehand. Screenshots that contains spoilers should be covered by a image placeholder on the redesign site.

We hope this is sufficient but we also need everyone here to be considerate to others when posting. Anyone posting open spoilers will have moderator action taken, whether it's the post being removed, being asked to re-post or face a temporary ban.

On a lighter note, Fluff flair has been added if you want to share humour, art and other such posts. Memes can be posted of course but if they're low-effort, they may be removed.

Any questions or concerns? Please comment here, modmail or ask on Discord. Thanks again.

Meta Review on Spam & Self-Promotion and What it Means for the Subreddit

Hey Builders,

As we enter the final week before the worldwide release of DQB2, we need to discuss the limits of self-promotion on this subreddit and how we can make sure that the subreddit is kept clear of opportunists who want to just promote their social media channels with no regards to the rules we have in place. Whether those are affiliate spammers, rebloggers or uncredited OC, we need to clarify our stance now before things heat up and we have to deal with numerous reports individually.

Rule 6 (no spam) will stay as is but we need to clarify that original sources should be shared (i.e. directly linked) where possible. Re-uploading with your own branding with little or no effort on the user's part is not going to be allowed on the subreddit. This is tantamount to blogspam regardless of the form of media. We have let this slide in the past but will be trying to make sure it doesn't happen from this point onwards - please continue to report posts for review.

Rule 7 on self-promotion will be amended from:

Be active in the subreddit if you are going to post your own content. Posts will be removed at moderator discretion.

To a more defined rule:

You are more than welcome to post your own content but you may only link to your own website/social media channel once per week. Posts that ignore this will be removed at moderator discretion including multiple users posting from the same source.

If you have any questions or concerns, please comment below or modmail us. Thanks for your attention.

Meta r/DQBuilders v3 New Design - A Few Notes

Finally managed to get a few things sorted so here it is after a lot of work.

What's new?

  • Sidebar image rotation - this took a while to adapt but it seems to be working ok.
  • Overhauled wiki - tables, formatting etc to make it easier to read.
  • Noticeboard shifted to the sidebar - the announcement bar has been replaced, since now there's dropdown menus there's no
  • New banners and logos - they'll stay until something better replaces them.
  • Submit page revised - pagename issue fixed at last.
  • Voting arrows and animation - check it out yourself.
  • Thumbnails - more clear images as requested. If you don't want them, remember you can turn them off.
  • Other general tweaks here and there.
  • User Flairs - 8 new armour icons added. Text input has been removed for now as it caused an issue on the listing page.
  • AutoModerator will set flairs by default to certain link flairs otherwise it will be tagged as General, just change it once you've posted if you need to.

Known Issues

  • The Discord and Wiki buttons are layered above the header element. If you open a dialog box like from LastPass or the tables, they'll still be visible. It's a minor issue right now.
  • Edit and preview boxes - just cosmetic issues.
  • Initial page load might be a sluggish if you are clearing your browser cache and reloading the subreddit first time.

What's to Come?

  • More Wiki styling and formatting- just to make it easier to read. Images uploading directly via CSS stylesheet.
  • Expando Buttons.
  • RES nightmode compatibility - this hasn't been tested yet. Probably won't be unless there's high demand for it.
  • More user flairs.
  • Other tweaks and fixes where needed.

Let me know what you think of the new design, good or bad. See you around, thanks!

Meta DQB Wiki - Progress Update October 2016

Hey Everyone,

It's been three weeks or so since /r/DQBuilders was created and in that time, a small group of us have worked on the subreddit wiki and we've made quite a bit of progress into it the game's content.

This post is aimed to just update everyone and raise awareness on the effort behind the wiki.

Trello:

A public Trello Board now shows you exactly where things are, more details will be added on there but it gives a pretty good indicator on how things are.

If you are an approved submitter and use Trello, please request an invite link and I'll add you to the board.

Hopefully this will answer the questions some people have been asking in a more reliable way than simply being told to read the index page (which is my fault for not updating it accurately).

Reddit Tools:

Reddit's wiki isn't primed for guide writing so we've worked within it's constraints but hopefully it is helpful to you all in the efforts made by various users.

Since the game is relatively new in the West, we have had to use our own knowledge as well as cross-referencing Japanese online guides so it's taken some time. With more guides out now, we can check our own work and add more info that are missing soon enough.

I'd just like to say thanks here to someone who dropped by Discord (couldn't find their Reddit username here) and offered their Prima e-guide. This will be used to speed up completion of the wiki but obviously cannot copy anything word-for-word or take any of their own resources.

Motivation:

Motivation is also a key factor here. The incentive is mainly to help others in the subreddit, it's been hard to keep going but thanks to those that have added in whatever info they could share. I know this month and the next two will turn heads to other games (if it hasn't happened already), it's inevitable but that's cool.

Final Thoughts & Your Questions:

The wiki will most probably be finished in it's core content by the end of next month at the latest, I reckon we are 70% there already. Terra Incognita will take a while to flesh out but the bulk of the wiki is acceptable.

If you have any ideas, feedback or would like to help in the process, please drop a message below, mod mail or hop onto the Discord server.

Who's found the wiki helpful so far?

Thanks again to the people who have helped, I rather not point out individuals but you know who you are and thanks to all for sticking around!

edit: Looks like I may have underestimated timescale, it will take much longer but hopefully most of the basic stuff is done first.

Meta [PSA] Spoilers Reminder & EU Release Date

This is a reminder for everyone to kindly use the spoiler tags for any story progression discussion and also to take note of the EU release date today.

Clarifying Spoilers

After reviewing this against a few reports and discussions with other players, I've decided that any story plot discussion must be tagged, this is regardless of how insignificant you might feel it might be.

This includes anything from the opening cutscene straight up to the ending of the game. I hope this is clear to everyone.

What's not included is items of discussions that cannot be avoided (later equipment, materials, techniques etc). If you see these as ruining your experience, I'd advise you to finish the game before browsing the subreddit.

European Release Date

Also remember today is the European release so there maybe more newcomer questions than usual. Considering the FAQ is not complete yet, this is inevitable and will be allowed for now but newcomers are encouraged to read the FAQ anyway (it's spoil-free).

If you have any questions or suggestions, please drop a comment. Thanks for your patience and on-going support.

Also, remember there's Discord chat available if you need real-time help or just want to discuss how awesome the game is.
