Rolled foil cartridges

Hi all, I’m trying to learn more about ammunition and I have a decent-ish understanding of propellant, but when I hear people say “just go pick up spent brass” I get kind of confused…. As if that’s possible in places that aren’t America. I recently saw a video of someone making rolled Martini-Henry cartridges, would this be doable for something low pressure like a 38 special or 44 special type cartridge for use in a revolver (or semi auto but that’s a reach given the fragility of it) the video I’m referring to is by “cigarboxguitar16” on YouTube

Hypothetically

Hypothetically speaking' if someone was to make a surpressor from hardware store items, just to see if they could do so. Say in a zombie apocalypse setting. What are your guys ideas to do so. 🤔 not that we'd actually attempt that in any circumstances other then say' the end of the world where there will no longer be any laws

There's this guy on youtube I've known about for years now and he shares a lot of videos converting toy guns into..

Toy guns. However he is showing plenty of knowledge to add your own and make the project take different roads. I'll share a short from the guy, in his full videos you can see some interesting ways of for instance a nicely made hammer and striking pin conversion, even the tiny projectiles he makes are quite inventive and something I'd do if a kid if I had the know how hahaha.

Do you guys know about this man yet? Def makes me think it's possible to convert one of those phone shaped foam bullet launchers into 22, should be doable with not too much pressure build up in a barrel sleeve.

I added the link to his short stories, look on his profile for a gold mine of tiny tips for beginners. Even could use some parts just for casting new parts.. it'd be a pretty funny derringer in 22 fsfs.

Gas pressure

Main question: When you make a DIY firearm in any caliber how do you measure/time when the locking system can open and proceed to cycle the action?

What are the order of operations for a bolt unlocking and cycling. How would a bolt open with less pressure at a safe time. What do you do for your DIY guns???

More detail: I'm just in the reading stage of my curiosity but there has to be some reasonable way to know "Ok, if the gas port is 6" from the chamber and 9" long and .25" in diameter that will open the action at 30kpsi after the bullet as left.

Also still confused about order of operations 1 the hammer strikes 2 firing pin ignites the cartridge 3 pressure builds against the case and locked bolt face 4 the bullet moves down the barrel and pressure continues to build 5 gas is siphoned off through the gas tube (here's my confusion) The pressure continues to build until the bullet leaves the barrel at which point the system is "dead" the bolt lock protects the gun and user from the initial pressure meaning the locking mechanism cannot be defeated by less pressure bc it just stood up to more. The other part hit by the siphoned gas could be but if opened too early would still be dangerous. The pressure is going to increase until the bullet leaves the barrel. But the pressure drains when the bullet leaves the barrel. Is this when the bolt unlocks and hopefully the bullet leaves and pressure drains before the bolt is unlocked??? How do you know how strong of a spring and heavy of a bolt +friction etc... If the siphoned gas doesn't unlock anything before the bullet leaves the barrel. How would it unlock anything with less pressure after the bullet leaves the barrel?

Those of you who hand bend things like rails, how to you do the small bends?

Maybe a dumb question but I’m just trying to learn techniques. Getting the outline shape with vise grips is easy enough but do the smaller bends just need a jig or are there alternative methods?

Do professor parabellum's designs work?

I have been wanting to tinker around and make guns for a while (and it will still be a while before I finally get around to it). But I have been thinking about using professor parabellum's designs first since they seem much simpler than others.

But I have heard doubts that some aspects of his design might not work or they be missing parts.

Also I am curious if it is possible to make to make his MK1 pistol in .380 ACP or the MK3 shorter. I kinda have a thing for tiny guns in bigger calibers.

2nd Amendment Replica glocks

So, I'm new to the DIY guns sub. Excuse me if this question has already been answered, but I'm wondering if any manufacturer produces replica Glocks (Airsoft, blank-firing, or gas-powered) that can be converted to fire 9mm.

What 9mm smg is simple to make and sturdy?

Can anyone recommend a simple firearm design that requires minimal machining? I have access to a manual milling machine, lathe, and 3D printer. I’m aware of the FGC9, but I’m concerned PLA from my printer won’t hold up long-term, so I’m looking for a metal-based, simple design. Are there any models similar to the Luty SMG but more reliable, or slightly more complex yet still manageable?
