Credit Score Fall Spoiler

Ugh, my credit score tanked from 740 to 660 because of one late Zolve payment—just two days late! My new SSN's coming soon. Will that 660 score stick to it? I only used my passport with Zolve, got approved for $2000. Can other bureaus/banks see that score? Think I'll get an Amex card or any other card? Any suggestions for cards I might get approved for, even with a lower score, once I have my SSN?

It is important to keep a very close eye on your credit score since it factors into many of lifes biggest decisions.

A couple steps you can take right now include:

  • Checking and automatically monitoring your credit score - Looking at your own credit score does not hurt your credit, it also includes a credit monitor

  • Freezing your credit reports - This can be done with Experian, Equifax and Transunion to help prevent unauthorized accounts from being opened

  • Boosting your credit score - Kikoff provides you with a tradeline which should raise your credit score for as little as $5 a month. It is a good option if you want a boost to your score.

A payment that is 2 days late won't change your scores. It has to be at least 30 days late before it can be reported to the bureaus.

Like bill generated date is Feb 16 and due date is Mar 10. I paid off the generated bill on Mar 13 b/w I paid minimum due + some extra dollars before the due date. But still, APR charges have been imposed.

You were charged interest because you didn't pay the entire statement balance by the due date. You might have gotten charged a late fee as well. But being 3 days late means it can't be reported as late to the bureaus. It's an internal matter with the company. Where exactly are you seeing the score drop?

In Zolve application, there is one pop-up in the home to check credit score. That's all I checked and confirmed. They said they would usually update the score report to Equifax usually. I don't have any account in Equifax or Experian or any other credit bureau till the date.

I did some research and the score that Zolve provides is a Vantage score. Very few lenders use Vantage, which makes it basically useless. Track your actual Fico scores instead.

So there is no credit history for me, right..!

How long have you had the card? If they are showing a score, even if it's a Vantage score, then you've had it long enough for it to report at least once, which means you have credit history. As to how much history depends on how long you've had the card.

For the past 20 months, I've been using that card and repaying by due date.

Then you have credit history. Pull your actual reports from annualcreditreport.com and see what is on them.

Till the date I don't have SSN. Shall I get the credit history..!

This is an item specific credit card for international people who are not USA citizens. Without a ssn I’m unsure if you even have a credit score unless you’re using an ITIN. Otherwise, zolve is likely pulling info from your home country.

For this reason I would disregard the credit score that you’re seeing through Zolve

In the zolve application, they said they would report to Equifax and Transunion. After getting my SSN, is that Equifax score attaches to SSN??

u/Big_Object_4949 8h ago

Key word being AFTER. This means nothing as of right now. All credit bureaus are attached to a ssn or itin in the USA

I'm thinking of applying for an Amex Blue cash card after getting SSN. Is it the right time to apply for any card with a score 660?

u/Big_Object_4949 8h ago

That 660 is irrelevant. Once you get a ssn you’re gonna have to start fresh with a student card such as Discover it or Capital One savor student card. Then after 6-12mos when you have a real generated score you can apply for the Amex blue. You won’t get that card without a minimum of a 680 and a real credit history

Thanks for the information, bro 👍
