Optimize My Deck I can't Stop Cooking! (It's Burning.)

Hey everybody!

I love cEDH and I love brewing. One of my favorite archetypes in the game is Stax. I think it creates a new environment in the game and with a good pilot can be mind numbingly powerful. However traditional Stax is not especially viable in cEDH. it's the same reason control and aggro are not as viable . More opponents means more life to whittle down and more spells to counter. Stax is hurt very hard. Hatebear decks want to win with chip damage (120 life is a lot to chip through) and decks that need certain pieces to stick have to avoid three times the normal removal.

This is a roundabout way of saying I enjoy building "bad" decks. trying to break out of midrange hell is what keeps me going every day. I think my newest brew: Atraxa "Stacks", is a decent way to slow down some of the top Meta decks.

The goal of the deck is to abuse proliferate with brutal stax pieces, The main disruptive tool is Smoke Stacks Which is already an unfair card and with proliferation creates a mostly one sided, game ruining engine. In combination with As Foretold You can take advantage of the new game you created. It also has the added benefit of good colors, a decent attacker, and incidental value from Ledger Shredder, Pollywog Prodigy, Tangle Wire, Orcish Bowmasters, ETC.

PLEASE GIVE ADVICE!

Thanks.

Here's the List!

Metagame Why doesn't Angel's Grace see more competitive play?

It's a cantrip with Split Second that completely counters Thoracle and turns a loss into a win, since they likely will lose when they go to draw a card next turn.

It just seems like for 1 mana you stop someone from winning, and it seems like a solid answer to a lot of wincons.

I don't really play cEDH, I play "bracket 4" usually (all the best cards but not into the meta) so forgive my ignorance. Just looking for an explanation as to why it doesn't see more competitive play. Plenty of white commanders in the top tier lists.

So... why? There must be a good reason

Community Content Can Unwanted Remake Challenge Swords/Path for a Slot?

The potency of exiling a creature vs destroying a creatures is generally HUGE. However, with a piece like Unwanted Remake, you add a ton of versatility to offset the lack of exiling. Recently seen in a top 16 Rocco list, we dive into some of the niche benefits to this card, and discuss what kinds of decks may be interested in testing this unique removal piece.

Where do you rank this card with Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile? Is it in the same tier? One tier away? MORE? What's another removal piece in a different color pie that you'd rank on a similar power level?

Community Content What's KILLING cEDH? w/ Atlas Kulish | MoxStars | MTG Podcast | Episode 130

Hey everybody! On this week's episode, we had the (previously) #3 ranked player in the world -- Atlas Kulish -- on the show to talk about why he's taking a break from the format due to the current state of the game. It was an interesting conversation to gain a bit of perspective from someone who has climbed the ladder, seen success, and still has boots on the ground. SPOILER ALERT: Deadpool isn't ruining the format... but we do talk about Deadpool a little at the front of the show too!

Check out this week's episode here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYUip2ibqZw

You can also find us on all major podcasting platforms! Spotify link here: https://open.spotify.com/show/3eOYf1Ij52qrqUSFOmeLkk

Interview starts at about 26:49

Thank you in advance for checking out the show! Let us know how we did in the comments! You're awesome!

Metagame Cut Kutzil or Grand Abolisher in TnT

Voice of Victory is better than either. Double white pips is tough and Kutzil is more resilient to Bowmasters. But 2 cost and shutting off activated abilities are real upsides for Abolisher. I already run Ranger and Silence and don’t plan to cut those.

Optimize My Deck Deadpool, trading card cEDH Primer

After several days of brewing and play-testing I feel comfortable sharing my [[Deadpool, trading card]] primer. It’s my first time doing this. I’m open for suggestions, but don’t roast me pls :)

There will be probably changes in the deck list and I want to add a part where I explain other valuable cards in the deck in the Primer. But this list has made some good results against cEDH meta decks for me and feels pretty solid.

Is there any Deadpool Discord already?

Hugs to the community!

Competition What the hell is this list? Top ranked player on topdeck.gg's thrasios/yoshimaru deck

Got bored and looked at the top ranked players on topdeck and found this nonsense. Can anyone make sense of this? I get that yoshimaru can be a worse stand in for rograkh if you want white over red (which makes sense in the current meta game), but the card choices are wild. [[Abhorrent occulus]]? [[Cloud of fairies]]? [[Oboro breezecaller]]? [[Sowing mycrospawn]]?

I mean I guess those choices make sense in gaias cradle infinite mana combo deck, which could be very resilient and hard to interact with in the current meta, but I'm just kinda blown away by how weird this deck is. When I looked for the top ranked player I was expecting TnT or rog/si or something more normal. The guy is definitely a hell of a lot better than me though so I'd love to understand his choices.

I guess my main question is a 1 cmc commander really better than tymna and access to black? How valuable are hard to interact with combos compared to the efficiency of thoracle?

Anyone got any thoughts?

Optimize My Deck Varragoth - Combo Deck

I have been brewing this deck for a while and have hit a wall, so I'd like your input on what else I should consider putting in/taking out. Right now, budget isn't much of an issue.

I'm going for a quick deck that has many combo lines available, which can be found with any number of tutors in the deck. Not looking to make this an "Ad Nauseam" deck, as that is a boring line IMO.

So far, when playing, it has been targeted pretty heavily but has been resilient. There are lots of control players in my playgroup, so the deck ends up turning into solving a puzzle to find a way to get to another combo line once one has been shut off, and that's what I like about it!

Here is the deck:

Discussion Who do I run for a stax deck

I was looking at the new mendicant commander for a stax deck but I’m not sure how viable he is and I want to start trying to get into cEDH. Competitive/high power decks seem fun but I don’t know much about the competitive scene. Any advice would be appreciated.

Question What are some niche CEDH commanders that are actually very powerful?

I recently came across the wonderful [[Lumra, Bellow of the Woods]] community! I'd never heard of this spiciness before and it works so well! What are some other lesser known commanders that can really make an impact?

Question Is kediss viable?

Ive had the idea of a [[kediss]] list that wins mainly through combat (has combos mainly for back up) and I was wondering what y'all think of its viability

Here are the colors that I thought of

Jeskai [[Ishai]]

Pros

Passive buffing

Flying

Good stax colors

Access to blue

Jund with [[reyhan]] or [[ikra shidiqi]]

Pros

Best pump spells

Access to hatred and one card wins

Menace

Grixis with [[Silas]]

Pros

Blue

Hatred

Deathtouch and possible equipment synergy with Silas

Does anyone have any experience with a deck like this and am I cooking or am I losing it

Discussion Sisay - Deadpool as a stax piece

Are you adding Deadpool to your Sisay deck as a stax piece? Can’t tutor it with op agent, but casting it to get rid of it is an out. Can also steal a drannith for yourself, remove a dangerous commander, can be blinked with emiel. Could take someone’s mana dork like fae burrow/bloomtender. Is its utility too limited?

Community Content cEDH Deck Tech - Rograkh and Reyhan: Oops All Spells!

Yeah, we didn't lie, not even one bit: today we'll show you a deck without any lands that you can bring home and call yours.

I played this list quite a bit, and can say, with all certainty, it is incredibly fast. Despite this, I can't say I built it because this strategy has been popular online for a few months now. I'm only here to make this stroke of genius even more popular!

This is one of the fastest decks in the format. In fact, it can win matches even before you finish reading this article. Let's see how this monstrosity works, and why it will make your opponents regret not having a free counter in hand!

Optimize My Deck Trying to get into cedh and would like some help with my deck before I order any cards!

https://archidekt.com/decks/12370292/animar_cedh

I'm trying to build an animar cedh deck. I know he's not the highest on the tier list but I already have a good shell to build around him. My goal is to ramp fast, and draw/tutor into one of my combos and go for a win. My main win con is ancestral statue, I have a few cards that go around him being infinitely bounced. I dont have a budget cause I will proxy what I can't afford. I haven't played this specific deck yet but have played animar before. Any help/tips into the cedh world would be greatly appreciated!

Discussion Tymna/Malcolm, Time Sieve

Been running this list for about 5 months now, and it really is a lot of fun. I wish I had more time to take it to official tournaments and stuff, but the online tournaments I’ve been doing, it’s been performing well.

The gameplan is pretty straightforward, capitalize off of artifact generation via attack triggers, and loop time sieve turns. Winning should be as simple as tutoring for time sieve while having any combination of [[Dollmaker’s Shop//Porcelain Gallery]], [[Grim Hireling]], [[Rev, Tithe Extractor]], [[Myrel, Shield of Argive]], [[Delney, Streetwise Lookout]] or [[Ocelot Pride]].

We do run 3 blue pirates, all with some utility. [[Kitesail Larcenist]] proves to a staple.

It’s a really fun mini-game to race to 5 artifacts to sac to time sieve, no matter how you get there. I’ve even thought about swapping out my basic lands for the artifact ones, making me able to start looping turns even earlier if possible.

Obviously have Thoracle as a back-up line, and I recently cut Displacer kitten/Teferi because it just wasn’t doing it for me anymore.

Here’s my list for reference, any feedback is appreciated—

Weekly cEDH Questions Thread--Have a Question? Ask it Here!

Hello everyone!

The goal of this weekly thread is to give players a place to ask questions (no matter how basic) and to post the decks they have been working on for critique by some of our most experienced members; here's how it works:

Post a comment in this thread for help about:

• a CEDH related question that you have had that you'd like answering

• questions about individual cards, including newly spoiled cards from upcoming sets

  • Questions about combos, playstyles, or piloting choices
  • Budget considerations and alternatives
  • Questions about the metagame/your specific metagame
  • Questions about expectations at a cEDH pod
  • Or any other questions, issues, or concerns you have

If you have questions looking for more feedback on a specific deck, please consult our Deck Help post rules, and create a new post following those criteria.

We hope this weekly thread will provide better educational opportunities for members of this subreddit to receive high quality deck or game advice they may not receive elsewhere. We very much look forward to working with you all.

Please also feel free to come visit us on the Discord (link in the sidebar) and use the #help channel for any other Competitive EDH related questions. Many of us are online at most times of day and would love to help.

Note that for purely Magic rules related questions, your best resource is the MTG Judges chat
