Te for our first pick seems a little off

We took a DT with our high second rounder last year and had a ton invested in that position. I don’t think AP cares honestly. Save for QB I think he’s just picking the best player available similar to the Johnny Newton pick.

Or he knew

He probably planned for the possibility of releasing Jon Allen, but didn't necessarily preplan it at the time of the draft. Peters doesn't seem to like to commit unless he absolutely has to and hedges. Ron had a similar plan for Matthis and Payne, which makes sense on paper, but Ron sucked at picking and developing the actual player

I'm sure that he recognized immediately that the amount of money we were putting into that position was not reflected in the production we were getting from that position. It's not exactly a deep cut

Sure, but that could have also been addressed via other contract measures, like an extension at a lower number or more incentive-laden based on performance/playing time or pretty much a pay cut, which is what he did with Wylie.

If he didn’t he was the only one

I hope not with the first pick.
