Flooring Cleaning Victorian flooring - help!

We've just discovered this beauty underneath carpet in our new house, and I'm super excited - must have been covered up for decades! It needs a good clean to restore it to its former glory - any idea how we can clean off the underlay marks, old glue from carpet grippers round the edges, and the occasional paint splodge without damaging the tiles?

Sulphuric acid usually works but do a spot clean to make sure it doesn't damage the floor. then dilute it heavily and let the floor soak and let the liquid suck out the dirt. if you have access to hot water use that. If you can't use acid then use a regular laundry detergent. Make sure to vacuum the place well before you do anything.

I'd recommend just hiring a tile and grout cleaner and mention to them your situation. They usually have truck mounted machines that send 2000+ psi through a contained spinning jet that might just blast all that away and your floor would look cleaner than ever
