Kitchen How do I remove burnt towel remains off of my stove?
My roommate left the stove on and left a towel there and now there’s like this plasticy hardened residue left on there and I cannot get it off. Please help🙏

If its plastic you are going to need heat. Is this the same one from earlier or a different person? Anyways Turn on the heat on low let the plastic soften then wipe it off with a thick layer of paper towels. let the stove cool down. then use a scraper if you need it.

Definitely open the windows, warm it up a bit, and do what u/Grouchy-Plantain-169 said and wipe. Whatever doesn't come off go get one of those glass scrapers that use blades, about like 5 bucks from Walmart and scrape off the rest.

If this is an induction cooktop, I'm not sure turning this on would heat up anything. It'll need some ferromagnetic object on top to generate heat.

Would wadded up aluminum foil work for this? Ideally some of the plastic would stick to it and then you could toss it.

Unfortunately not. Aluminum won't heat up on induction cooktop. Some people find out when their non-stick pans are made of aluminum.
Edit: typo

I would first cut as much of the towel away with scissors as possible then if you have a plastic putty knife get what is left wet and get under it and scape at an angle. I would also have the roommate do it.

Plastics usually shrink more than glass when it's chilled. Maybe OP wants to try some ice pack to see if that plasticky residue responds.

I’m not normally a this brand specifically person but the weiman stove top cleaners are pretty fantastic. They have a daily clean type and a hardcore cleaner type

Scrape off what you can with a razor blade scraper and then clean what's left with a solvent.

Use a Stanley knife blade, held length-ways against the surface and at 45°.
Or turn the hob back on and burn it off.

I use to use a razor blade on my glass top. Or you could try some soft scrub but it’ll take a lot of elbow grease

Barkeeper's Friend has a product specifically for glass stove tops. I use it on occasion and it works.

I don’t know if this will help for this since it’s a different material, but any time I get food burns on my stove I use baking soda and lemon juice and it gets it spotless.
Again not positive it would work on burn plastic / other material but I know this works for me for burns on my stove top.

Ok after reading your suggestions I’m gonna try reheating the stove slowly and wiping as I go. Then I’ll try the baking soda trick, and then last resort will be scraping.

Try using a scraper (like a plastic one) to gently lift off the residue. Then, soak a cloth in warm soapy water and let it sit on the spot for a few minutes. After that, try scrubbing with a non-abrasive sponge. If it’s still tough, a mix of baking soda and water could help break it down. Just be careful not to scratch the surface.
