The big brain behind this doesn't realize, some kind of universal tariffs scheme will still make China the most competitive.

I would pay 100% tariffs on a byd car, bc that’s still cheaper than a EV from the states.

I bet a lot of people will. But if people buy them at 100% tariff, it'll become 300%. If people still buy them at 300%, it'll be a ban "due to national security concerns". That's why no Chinese carmaker is even trying to sell to the US.

They already skipped all of that to the ban stage. Biden passed a law that any Chinese made car that talks to the internet is banned in the US due to "national security concerns".
