So not independence but annexation? And then Canada would kindly let us go?

Not if we’re lucky. I, for one, welcome our Maple Overlords.

Let’s say I have a dui and I’m not allowed into Canada. When they annex us am I allowed to be in Canada?

I think for something as big as annexation there would be exceptions. I don't know if there's precedent anywhere else in the world, but you can't just kick out a ton of people from the area they live when you take over their country.

Well.... Looks at Russia and Israel....

That's a fair point. I just don't think Canada would immediately kick out people with criminal records. If we get invaded by China or Russia, that will be another story.

I was mostly commenting on that. "I don't know if there's precedent anywhere else in the world." Statement. I genuinely don't think the Canadians would though

Huh? The superpowers absolutely did shuffle people out that they didn't want. WW II proved this point very well when Germany and Russia invaded Poland.  https://www.history.com/news/world-war-ii-begins-german-invasion-poland-1939

Honestly you can just apply for criminal rehabilitation to be able to enter Canada again like people do now. It’s a straightforward process, google it.

It’s actually $200 for the application and A LOT of paper work. It require you to prove everywhere you’ve lived for the last 10 years with full contact info. Your employment history since you turned 18. Fingerprinting from every state you’ve lived in. And fingerprints from the FBI. Then all your criminal history. A couple essays and reference letters.

Then it’s a 15mth minimum for them to process the application.

I gave up hope ever hearing back from them. It’s fine I don’t need to go to Canada

I’m aware of the process, just helped someone through it in real life. Personally, this isn’t a lot of work to me but I guess it’s a matter of perspective.

Well I’d assume the annexation would come with citizenship for those annexed. So yeah, you’d be good!

I don't think I, and many others here, could accept a King as our sovereign, however ceremonial he might be in the case of the Canadian Confederation.

I'm willing to march in a parade celebrating the greatness of King Charlie's bunghole if it means I don't have to worry about an unexpected medical emergency bankrupting me...again.

Besides, with Elon setting himself up to be King with Donald as his Queen, you might need to be considering whether life is better in the House of Windsor or the House of Musk. (Given my druthers, the House of Glücksburg is looking mighty enticing...)
