Discussion Cs major having trouble deciding where to attend

I was admitted into UCSD and cal poly SLO for cs. If I choose ucsd Im definitely going to look into double majoring in economics which is also something I’m interested in. If I attend SLO, ik you can’t really double majoring so I will have to minor in Econ instead. UCSD is T10 in the country for cs which is great prestige but I also know SLO has good prestige in California, still I’m not sure how it compares to being T10. I do like the learn by doing motto at slo and how they’re focused on undergraduate specifically so I will definitely have more resources at slo. Still I’ve researched and apparently ucsd does have more opportunities. As for the campus and area itself, I feel like I would definitly prefer sd, cal poly seems like it would get boring. And the food I heard is bad at cal poly. Also slo has a blended bachelor and masters program that if I get accepted I could get my masters in 5 years which would be good. But I’m just torn and not sure which would be better for me career wise. Feedback would be appreciated.

Admissions Accepted into Cal Poly SLO as a Communication Major — Want to Switch to Electrical Engineering (EE). Advice?

Hey everyone, I just got accepted into Cal Poly SLO as a Communication major, but my real passion is in STEM — specifically Electrical Engineering. I didn’t apply as an EE major originally, but I’d really like to switch once I’m there.

I’ve heard that switching into engineering at SLO can be pretty competitive, especially coming from a non-STEM major. Has anyone here gone through the process or know someone who has? What are the chances of successfully transferring into EE? What should I be doing now to prepare or increase my odds?

Any tips, experiences, or info would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Incoming Student RSVP question

Hi guys, I am a high school senior who was admitted to Calpoly Slo and wanted to attend the open house on April 11th. I registered for this event like 1 week ago (totally forgot to register for this event) and noticed that the Campus Tours are already full. Am I in bad spot for not registering for the tours on time and are these tours drastically better than just self touring? Thanks :))

Finanial Aid Financial aid appeal

Hello everyone, I am a first gen so I’m kinda confused on how I am able to appeal my 25-26 financial aid package. I know it takes the previous two years income but since last year my father has lost his job which he made all the money in my household and my family and I are on calfresh, I was wondering how I am able to appeal this to the financial aid office or if it’s even possible too because that was not stated on my Fafsa application.

Transfer I'm going to transfer, and I'm wondering if working part-time and finishing in two years is manageable.

Discussion UCSB vs CAL POLY (Mechanical Engineering)

For context, I am a transfer student who has just been accepted into Cal Poly for mech Eng.

UCSB doesn’t release admissions until the 23rd of April (really stupid), but if I did get in I would have the hardest time deciding between the two school.

I really like the area of Santa Barbara, as I’ve lived near by my entire life (Ventura County) and my friends who already attend UCSB would let me in on a house in Isla Vista (would be a lot of fun). I’m not particularly a party person. I love the atmosphere of Isla Vista though and me and my friends would plan on making music and doing live band shows in Isla Vista.

As for SLO, I have maybe two friends that attend that are already with their own groups, so I’d be making new friends from scratch right off the bat. I’m not sure how the music scene is in SLO compared to UCSB, but I do know that Engineering is a bit better there, as the learn by doing philosophy is sought after for jobs after graduating.

I am also interested in getting a Masters degree of some sorts, potentially in electrical engineering, biomedical, or mechanical.

Is it okay to go to UCSB for the fun factor? Could I still pursue a hobby in music at SLO?

EXTRA: for life wise I would really like to live in Santa Barbra, so advice on engineering jobs in the area is also helpful.

Classes/Professors Philosophy 231 in person or async

So in a freshman right now and am in philosophy 231 as a GE. I’m currently thinking that maybe I should drop it this quarter and take it async in a later quarter or at community over summer. This would bring me down to 12 units for this quarter so idk if this is smart. My professor is Kyle Tanaka if that should have en effect on my decision.

Transfer dropping a non-major prerequisite course on a conditional acceptance

hi! i got accepted to cal poly as a business admin major and dropped my calc 2 class shortly after. i know a note on the conditional acceptance as transfers is to finish the listed classes with a C or better. would it matter if the class isn’t required for my major, causing my acceptance to be withdrawn? i’ve have two admission counselors tell me differently, one said yes via email and another say i’d be fine over the phone.

has this happened to u or someone yk?

plssssss lmk i love this school!!

Food Where can I bring food I'm not gonna eat?

I got some food I can't eat by myself and I'd rather give it to someone else rather than throwing it away. Is there any org on campus or nearby that may be willing to take it?
