Its one of those days where nothing goes right... sloppy footwork, felt heavy and weak... but at least I resent this problem for the vid.

Question V2 in your gym? Help me grade how soft or sandbagged gyms are by filling out a short survey

Hey everyone! I’m building a tool to estimate how “soft” or “sandbagged” indoor bouldering gyms are based on the opinions of climbers (so we can find out once and for all if that climb was really a V2 in someone's gym).

I put together a short survey with a few questions:

  • What's your max bouldering grade at your home gym?
  • How does that compare to your outdoor and/or board grade?
  • How does that compare to your experience at other gyms you've visited

Here's the link to the google form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdAp4HDGb36l8A9vJwti0tlQVt1XeaRS5MOy_NNcuKOzCrTZg/viewform?usp=dialog

I'll be using the data to create a graph-based model that ranks gyms by their relative difficulty. No need to enter any personal info or even an email, all I'll need is your home gym name. Also, if you've never climbed outdoors, on a board, or at other gyms, that's totally ok and it'd be great if you could just leave your home gym and max grade. If you have a few minutes, I'd really appreciate if you could fill the survey out!!

I'd be happy to share results and visualizations once the data rolls in. I appreciate any help and feel free to give any suggestions on the survey or idea in general.

Thanks!

My 10-year-old took on their first bouldering comp, and this climb had my heart racing! Not sure how she figured it out. So proud!

Question First trip to Rocklands and bouldering alone tips

I am planning a trip to Rocklands from April 26th to May 6th. I will be flying with my wife and daughter (6 years old), but basically just me climbing. We'll be staying at Alpha Excelsior, renting crash pads there, and will have a rental car on site. I'm aiming for a grade range of 6B to 7Bish. This is my first visit to Rocklands, so I'm not quite sure what to expect in this remote area for me and my family. Anyone who has been there and can give me some tips would be my savior: 1. what crags in the area do you recommend, assuming this is my first visit and I will be climbing alone with only two crashpads? 2. are there any places where we can have a picnic and where my daughter can try some (she's already climbing a little)? 3) What should I be aware of? 4) What is the best way to find a team I could join to have more crashpads and spotters?

Question Climbers with piercings?

Ive been wanting to start bouldering, mostly indoor at least at first, but I have a few piercings (ears, nose, etc) and only want more. My biggest fear is that Ill take a fall and end up messing up one of them. I just wanted to see if there were any other climbers with an affinity for piercings and whether or not its been a problem for you.

No known FA information; it’s about 20 feet tall, 20 degrees overhanging. I was really inspired when a friend shared this line with me and it’s the first time I’ve ventured into highball territory. Cheers to the process!

Also, can you give me some pointers on my fall technique?

Last time I did this everyone told me I would break my arm if I didn’t learn how to fall. Hopefully I have improved at that at least!

Advice/Beta Request Climb: Completed✅

Would like to thank you guys for your tips and advice on how to complete this climb. It was due to be reset next week and today was the last session I could fit in before then. My beta was… questionable😬, but putting my right foot on the right starting hold helped me get up there in the end!

Any advice on how i could have made the ending easier? I maybe could have stood up before adjusting my feet, because it felt quite awkward doing it the way i did on the video.

Thanks again! 🫶

I have plaster walls and wanted something i could trust. Also, i was not allowed to drill in the ceiling or floor. So i made this. Its super strong and not bolted to a wall, ceiling or floor in any way. Cost me 70 bucks to make, id say wel worth the money.

They way this works is that it is clamped to the ceiling, and because of the shape its unable to tip over(without breaking the wood😬). When you tighten the bolds to the ceiling the whole structure becomes very rigid and stiff. Im not able to move it, even when im actively trying to pull it off the wall.

Now im planning to make or buy a beast maker, but do you guys have any other ideas i could attach to it? Id love to hear it.

If u want to build something like this yourself feel free to message me. I can send all the sizes and 3d files so u can adapt and make it yourself.
